Sumirubber Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. as the subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Japan are well-known for its technological advances in the rubber field since 1909.

COMPANY PROFILE

Rubber glove production for the Group started in themid 1950's and in 1980, Sumitomo RubberIndustries decided to transfer its rubber glovemanufacturing operations to Malaysia.

Thus, Sumirubber Malaysia was set up in SungaiPetani, Kedah in the north of Peninsular Malaysia totap into the abundant fresh quality natural rubberlatex for the production of household rubber glovessince 1981.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Environmental Policy reflects the commitment of an organization to the law and regulationsconcerning environmental issues.Sumirubber Malaysia is concerned with the energy conservation, waste reduction, complianceobligations and implementing emergency preparedness programs and promoting recycling activities.These are the fundamental aspects of continual environmental performance of our EnvironmentPolicy.


ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATE

ENVIRONMENTAL MESSAGE“SRI group is currently promoting global environment management as one of it’s most

significant issue. Sumirubber Malaysia, one of the oversea strongholds company of SRI group wants to

ensure that every employees are aware of the environmental issue and aggressively participate in

activities organized by our factory and region as well. We are really committed to increase the efficiency

of natural resources and energy in our factory through monitoring and implementing the Environmental

Management programmes in order to contribute to a sustainable green and eco-friendly environment in

Malaysia and globally. We also took serious efforts to conduct CSR activities towards a better society. For example, tree

planting and river rejuvenation activities were carried out and expanded to all SRI factories. I am really happy to see

Sumirubber Malaysia’s employees working together in all CSR activities by showing their interest in environmental awareness

issues and giving their full support. Our natural environment is the source of our wealth and health. We hope that these

activities will contribute to a more sustainable eco-system globally without eradicating our Mother Nature” .

The word of “Environment” is defined as surrounding or conditions in which a human, animal, or plant

lives.The word of “Environment” is defined as surrounding or conditions in which a human, animal, or plant lives

or operates. If the quality or condition of the environment degraded by outer factors such as pollutant from

industries or other business model, where by the creature like human, animal or plant will be the direct victim.

As employee of Sumirubber Malaysia, we have a big responsible to follow our environmental policy that been

promoted within the whole organization since 1981. All employees have to be aware not to create any pollutant

that can direct contact to environment (Air, Soil and Water) from our daily activities to cause pollution. Therefore, with high commitment,

Sumirubber Malaysia are fully compliance to local environment regulation and as well as Environmental Management System (ISO

14001:2015) to sustain our environment.

Beside that, Sumirubber had involved in many CSR programmes such as re-planting and river rejuvenation every year in protecting our

environment. It was because, we believe a healthy environment neither in the company nor surrounding will not only bring a success

business or respecting from society, but most important is to develop a happy and healthy worker.

We started glove manufacturing process in Malaysia since 1981. Time flies, 38 years have already

passed since then. Everything has changed dramatically in those years. The kind of company just

seeking own profits will lose social credibility and they cannot be able to continue their business. All of

us are interested in not only each product or service from companies but also the way that company will

go. Especially people are getting more concern about the environment. Climate change such as many

strong typhoon, torrential downpour and global warming of recent years is one of the most significant

global problem. So every company have to take responsibility of environment for all their activities. Of course, we Sumirubber

Malaysia positively work on any ecological activities like reduction of waste, purifying waste water, energy saving and more.

Furthermore we have a lot of CSR activities. We planted more than 1,000 mangroves collaborating with governmental

department. That is why we are a part of environment. To protect the environment (plant, animal, water, air and everything)

means to protect ourself. And we must not be happy for now, our future generations also should be happy. Thank you.

ENVIRONMENTAL AUDITS Sumirubber Malaysia Sdn Bhd has conducted the internal audit for Environmental Management System(ISO 14001: 2015) on 14th and 15th March 2018. The two days audit covered various departments andenvironment-areas in Sumirubber Malaysia.

The role of internal audit is to provide independent assurance on company’s risk management,governance and internal control of the Environmental Management System (EMS).

Audit was carried out by 7 qualified auditors including lead auditor. All nonconformities andobservations were recorded and resolved by the related departments.

Sumirubber Malaysia has appointed Llyod’s Register QualityAssurance Limited (LRQA) as external auditor since 2008.This year surveillance audit was conducted from 1st to 3rd

October 2018.

ENVIRONMENTAL AUDITS

Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) is an organizationthat takes great concern on the effectiveness of theEnvironmental Management System in all overseafactory.

Safety and Environment Department of SumitomoRubber Industries conducted an environmental auditin Sumirubber on 23rd July 2018

The aim of the audit was to ensure that SumirubberMalaysia maintained and established theEnvironmental Management System accordingly.

The Environmental Management System (EMS) of Sumirubber Malaysia Sdn Bhdwas established in 2004.The main objective is to administer, demonstrate, implement and monitor theenvironmental management system activities and continual improvement.Sumirubber Malaysia Sdn Bhd is now certifiedISO 14001:2015 version which was designed to respond to the latest trends andcompatible with other management system standards.

EMS Committee representatives are responsible to monitorthe effectiveness of the EMS and adhere to all requirementsaccordingly.

The EMS members were selected from various departmentand had been steering the EMS in Sumirubber Malaysiathrough several activities i.e.: discussion on newrequirements, briefing on environmental awareness andenvironmental patrol.

Most of the buildinglights have beenchanged to LED.ETP 3A starts operation.

Almost all the productionline use post leaching,which some product needto be washed 2 timespertaining to ESC issue.Production line uses morewater due to over flow atcooling tank.And gel leaching for foreignmatter issue.

Monitor production lines steam trap, replace whenever necessary and continues change steam trap to float type.Up grade and change steam line to prevent from leakage.Monitor fuel usage for boiler.


WASTE WATER TREATMENT

All parameters meet DOE Standard Brequirement pH at one point close toupper limits due to control valve issue butwas soon rectified.BOD, COD and zinc removal very good.Sampling shows result well below StandardB requirement.To continue pursue good quality, ensuringlesser impact to the environment.


This program is actually an efforts towards a sustainable development and greener environment besides to encourage public participation in environmental greening activities especially Mangrove forest.

This annual program was a success collaboration between 90 of Sumirubber employees and 30 representative from villagers and Kedah State Forestry Department. On this half day program, all participants enjoy relished the opportunity to experience hands-on planting mangrove tree.


CONSERVATION AND SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION

MANGROVE TREE PLANTINGAs apart of Sumirubber Malaysia Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, our team has initiated Mangrove Tree Planting Program at Kampung Kuala Tunjang, Jerlun, Ayer Itam, Kedah.

Around 1000 mangrove trees were planted by Sumirubber employees, Kedah Forestry Department and local villagers.This is the third time Sumirubber Malaysia organized Mangrove Tree Planting and this program also has became an exciting annual activity.

CONSERVATION AND SOCIAL CONTRIBUTION

It is essential that we replant all the trees we have lost. Amangrove forest is a very dynamic and highly productiveecosystem.

Mangrove are important because they protectcoastlines against erosive wave action and strong coastalwinds, and serve as natural barriers against tsunamis andtorrential storms.

Why is tree planting is important?By tree planting, we can obtain the natural oxygen filter & provide shelter and food for animals in the forest.It is essential that we make sure we replant all the trees we have lost or used. If performed properly tree planting activity can ensure the successful restoration of deforested area, hence creating ecologically sustainable environmental.

AWARENESS TRAINING ON HEARING CONSERVATION, CHEMICAL HANDLING & SPILLAGE AND ERGONOMIC

Emergency Response Teams (ERT) are the first line of defence in emergencies. With this awareness, 30 Certified ERT members has completed training with Tikam Batu Fire Station which has been carried out on 12th, 13th & 14th March 2018.

Our ERT members will be able to handle various type of emergencies and disasters.

This training aimed to educate members on handling hydrant of water pressure, emergency rescue, first aid, fire extinguisher and others.

TRAINING ON HOW TO USE FIRE ESTINGUISHER & FIRE BLANKET BY BOMBA

FIRE DRILL TRAINING

Sumirubber Malaysia ERT Team has manage to conduct fire drill twice a year.Fire Drill training was held on 26th December 2018 which involves 523 workers.It is a continuous success that all employee manage to gather at the designated main gathering in lessthan 3 minutes. As per recorded, time taken for evacuation is 2 minutes 41 seconds.


It is also a necessary exercise to ensure the readiness and preparedness in case of emergency. Fire Drill exercise helps our workers to evacuate the factory promptly, safely and orderly.

In conclusion, the whole futsal tournament, was indeed a success as it managed to gather employees as well as creating a platform for them to rejoice in the spirit of sportsmanship.


SPORTS & RECREATIONAL

FUTSALFutsal tournament, organised by Sumirubber Malaysia Sdn Bhd on 29th April 2018 (Sunday) from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm . This tournament was held at SMC Futsal Centre, Sungai Petani got off to a great start with over 120 players taking part.

BOWLINGBowling Tournament 2018 was successfully held at Sejati Bowl, Taman Sejati, Sungai Petani with the objective of fostering employee relationship. The tournament was held to foster teamwork and encourage camaraderie amongst the employees. Everyone enjoyed the game which certainly fostered fellowship among members.



Sumirubber Malaysia Managing Director, Mr Hiromasa Okubo and Operation General Manager, Mr Yuta Umeda has presented prizes to the winners.

BADMINTONBadminton In-house Tournament (double) is essentially a half-day tournament which kicked off at 8.00 am and ended approximately around 1.00 pm participate by 76 male and female employees.

The event took place at CK Badminton Hall, Bakar Arang Industrial Estate Sungai Petani.

Recreation activity are the great way to facilitate bonding between Sumirubber employees. 80employees were selected from various department to participate in this program. This event tookplace on 23rd December 2018 at Penang National Park. Various of activities were carried out startingwith jungle tracking to Turtle Beach, visit Turtle Conservation Centre and few Outdoor Games atMonkey Beach.



RECREATION AT PENANG NATIONAL PARK

The objective of this program is to encourage health and fitness through ongoing recreation activities and competitions and also to enhance community building and development of friendships and unity among our workers. Through these activities, workers will be able to inculcate ethics and values of good sportsmanship, respect, teamwork, fairness, merit and friendship.

SAFETY & HEALTH

HEALTH SCREENINGA Health Screening Programme with collaboration with Perkeso and BP Healthcare has

successfully conducted at Sumirubber Malaysia canteen area.


ROAD SAFETYCommunity Social Support Program (CSSP) is a road safety program organized by MIROS and collaboration with PERKESO and Sumirubber Malaysia. This two days program held on 25th July 2018 until 26th July 2018 at Sumirubber plant.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM

• The program is directly intervention toemployers and employees

• To evaluate the level of save management atworkplace

• To help employees carry out work backsafety intervention
