Sugar Crisis
The country is facing the worst sugar crisis in itshistory with the price of sugar touching Rs. 54 per kgin the retail market and Rs. 52 per kg in the wholesale.
Sugar prices have risen because of the demand-supplysituation. The supply in the market is not enough tomeet the current demand.

Recommendations
The Government should facilitate improved varieties ofsugar cane having higher sucrose recovery throughAgriculture Research Institutes and more effectivemeasuresrequired for disease control and better pesticides used.
