The Issue The customer was looking for a cost effective alternative to their existing 4 ½” product that would still provide the strength and extended wear life required by the 8750 dragline, the largest dragline machine in their Australian fleet. Our Solution Bradken recommended a change of setup from the existing 4 1/2 “ chain to the Harmonise 4” heavy duty hoist chain. The Conclusion/Outcome Incorporating Bradken’s superior materials and a number of innovative design features, the Bradken Harmonise 4” heavy duty product ultimately proved to be the best fit for the customer. To date, the customer has not experienced any unscheduled downtime as a result of Bradken’s upper hoist chain, which has reduced the costs associated with maintenance downtime, as well as eliminating any safety risk to maintenance personal. As of March 2015 (19 months since installation) the Bradken product was still in service and had moved more than 25 Million BCM’s. Based on cost per BCM, the cost savings provided by the Bradken chain offset the initial purchase costs in this time. Overall the customer is very happy with the Harmonise 4” heavy duty chain and rigging package supplied by Bradken as it continues to exceeding their initial expectations.
