1 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Provide a platform so as to construct Dwarsberg 132/22 kV Switching Substation. The 132 kV Yard and 22 kV
Yard will have the following layout. A six bay 132 kV (Φ 200 x 6 WT Al TUBE) double Tubular bus-bar
arrangement with a 132 kV Bus Coupler to couple the two bus-bars. The 132 kV double bus-bar arrangement
assures security of supply to BPC. A 22 kV 4 bay single Bull conductor Strung bus-bar arrangement.
The 132 kV Feeders namely Dwaalboom to Gaborone South and Spitskop to Segoditshane need to be
switched. They serve an international customer and have need of Double bus-bar selection with a By-pass
facility on the 4 x 132 kV bays. Dwaalboom PPC will always have security of supply from a line perspective
irrespective of any single contingency.
To provide an auxiliary supply; a 132/22 kV 10 MVA Star/Delta Transformer with a NEC/NER/Aux 22/0.4 kV
Transformer will be set up. The Aux 22/0.4 kV Transformer will also provide a 400 V, 315 kVA, Aux supply.
A 22 kV Distribution Line will supply the Switching Substation to ensure a backup supply via the 22/0.4 kV,
315 kVA Aux Transformer.
The 132/22 kV 10 MVA Transformer is sufficiently rated to provide a constant auxiliary supply, as well as to
strengthen the local 22 kV network if required.
The construction of this substation is to ensure that Eskom meets the PPC contractual agreements.

The “Hybrid” type substation layout is planned to accommodate a 132 kV Bus-bar 1 & 2,
Φ200 x 6 WT Al Tubular design with Double bus-bar selection and By-pass facility for the feeder bays.
