Transcript of Substance abuse
If knowing the truth will set you free, it must be a lie that has you bound.
Anneshia Freeman
What is substance abuse?
Substance abuse is the way in which people, for various reasons, abuse the use of specific substances for example painkillers, alcohol and drugs to feel better mentally, physically or psychologically. This type of abuse can be deadly if not treated in time.
What can lead to substance abuse?
The way to predict if someone has a certain substance addiction is first to find out if;
• The use of the drug is not with medical indication
• Tolerance
• Withdrawal
• Aggression
• Cravings
Addiction
Alcohol
Sedatives (e.g. Painkillers)
Cannabinoids (e.g. Marijuana)
Opioids (e.g. Heroin)
Cocaine

Caffeine
Hallucinogens (e.g. LSD)
Volatile Solvents
The different types of addiction
Nicotine
The most common addiction…
In moderate doses, Nicotine is a central nervous system stimulant The reason why Nicotine is a dependent substance is because it releases Dopamine in the body, which is a feel-good hormone Nicotine also increases hormones such as epinephrine, epinephrine, and serotonin which regulates the reinforcing effects from cigarettes.

Management of substance abuse
Rehabilitation
