“Creating is not only

a passion, I feel an

overwhelming urge

to create.”

— Debora Hodoyer

Inspiration can strike anytime, anywhere. For the two jewelry designers featured in this month’s B&B Extra, creative influence is all around them. The two women are both international designers: Debora Hodoyer hails from Italy and Puca from France.

Hodoyer tells us: “Creating is not only a passion, I feel an over-whelming urge to create. I listen to my inner self, and then I start beading, being relaxed and focused at the same time.” Hodoyer shares two projects with us, including her “Modern baroque bracelet,” p. 3, and “Floral ringlets bracelet,” p. 7. Puca has “always been a creative person,” she tells us, “but finds [her] greatest joy in beading.” Puca has a family-owned business, which produces an exclusive line of shaped beads, including the Arcos beads and the captivating cabs featured in her “Fairy-tale earrings” project, p. 10.

I hope these international artists spark your creativity as you enjoy beading!

(18 cm) bracelet including 3⁄4 in. (1.9 cm) for the clasp, and ending and adding thread as needed. Each cab unit measures ¾ in. (1.9 cm). Add or remove units to adjust the length as needed.

Make a pair of enchanting earrings with bezeled cabs and Arcos beads.

How to pick up the Arcos beads: Sew through the end holes, entering from the inside edge (IE) or the outside edge (OE) as directed. BEZEL1) On 5 ft. (1.5 m) of thread, pick up 44 110 cylinder beads. Leaving a 6-in. (15 cm) tail, sew through the beads again to form a ring, and con-tinue through the next couple of beads. These beads will form the first two rounds as the next round is added.

note Use moderate (not tight) tension as you get the bezel started.

2) Using cylinders, work a round of tubular peyote stitch, stepping up at the end of the round

(figure 1, a–b).3) Work two rounds of tubular peyote using 150 seed beads (b–c), and sew through the beadwork to exit a cylinder in round 1. Flip the beadwork over, and place an 18 mm cabochon face up in the beadwork. 4) Work four rounds of tubular peyote using 150s with tight tension, stepping up at the end of each round (figure 2, a–b).

note Hold the cabochon in place when adding the four rounds of 150s. It may not stay in place until the third or fourth round.

Sew through the beadwork to exit a cylinder in round 2 (center round of cylinders) (figure 3,

a–b). End the tail.
