What a tumultuous month February has been for UK charitiesEvery day there seems to be further revelations about large UKcharities with international portfolios and global presence whoappear to have misplaced their moral compass and as a resulthave lost the publicrsquos trust in charities It was distressing to hearthat 7000 individual donors had withdrawn their subscriptionsfrom Oxfam ndash but heartbreaking to realise that many of thosedonors would not choose to support their local charities insteadSo we need to improve our transparency and remind potentialdonors sponsors and benefactors that as local small charitieswe should not be tarred with the same brush Therefore we at CommUNITY Barnet would urge all of you toturn the scandals of international charities into opportunities tostrengthen your own charities community organisations andsocial enterprises by taking time to check on the following Safeguarding

Check and update your safeguarding policyReview the DBS status of all your paid and unpaid staffContact CommUNITY Barnet on how best to safeguardvulnerable people

Whistleblowing

Have a clear whistleblowing policy which includes a clearpathway to alerting trustees and senior managers

Emotional Health Check Training Comes to aSuccessful FinishOur Emotional Health Check (EHC) training programmeconcludes its journey at the end of March Within a year we
