• Registration / Deregistration for a course takes place within the first 2 weeks of lecture.
• No course registration – No final exam

• Attendance / Participation is compulsory for all components of the course.
• Failure to attend 80% may result that the student will not be allowed to take final exam
• Lecture – Lecture will be in English
• Tutorial – Only in some courses (especially in 1st and 2nd years)
• Laboratory – Only in some courses

• Student assessment method in a course can includes – Examination – Quiz – Assignment – Project – Presentation
• Selection of assessment methods depends on the type of course.
• Weightage of each method will be informed in the first day of lecture

• Examination – Maybe divided into 2 components
• Mid semester exam – Usually around Week 7 and 8 – Organized by lecturers themselves
• Final exam (compulsory)
– Usually 70% of total course assessment – Final exam
• Will be held in final examination weeks (29 Dec 2014 – 16 Jan 2015) • Administered by the uni central body • Exam slip detailing place/time/table no. will be provided to students

Visa with reference + Student visa
• Both are compulsory for international student – graduating or non-graduating
• Visa with reference (VDR) – Newly introduced in Jan 2014 – Valid for 3 months – Absolutely required when entering Malaysia and to register as UKM student – Applied through UKM at least 3 months before coming – Application / required documents sent together with application for studying
at UKM (in order to obtain offer letter) – Visa need to be picked up at Malaysian Consulate in Frankfurt – bring along

Accommodation
• Arrangement is helped by UKM Mercator office.
• Most probably in Kajang, adjacent town of UKM.
• Cost: EUR 450 – EUR 650 (RM 2000 – RM 3000) per month for three bedroom fully furnished condominium (costlier due to only 5/6 months of stay).
• Usually, contract in Malaysia lasts for a minimum of one year

Transportation
• No free public transportation for student.
• UKM has its own dedicated free bus system to get around campus and Bangi (town) train station
• Off-campus bus system around UKM is not that reliable.
• Taxi is plenty (outside UKM) and cheap.
• Renting a car can also be a good option – more flexibility.
• European driving license is valid for 1 year.
