Student Type 1: more frustrated, unsure, less joyful at school

Student Type 3: more successful in school, feel more confident and satisfied in school

Student Type 2: in between

Student Type 3’s Advantages

Many heads on one assignment

Talked through big ideas resulting in less homework time

Help from friends made it less confusing and corrected mistakes better and earlier

Found teacher’s mistakes earlier and knew it was tough for everyone

Had more FUN, were more relaxed about challenges, felt like social time

Saw what challenged everyone and what was a personal challenge

Felt like they belonged and were capable of even more challenges

Student Type 1’s Drawbacks

Spent more time on assignments

Less sure about doing things right

Seemed like everyone else was able to do it better than they were, so they doubted themselves

Missed out on friend and family time and felt a LOT of stress

Escaped stress by avoiding work or new challenges, resulting in less academic success
