JAPANESE SPORTS BUSINESS AND CULTURE (3 credits)This interdisciplinary course will be taught by subject experts in careful coordination to help students explore the broad factors that drive the sports business market to global success, and to examine underlying social, economic, and political dynamics.

JAPANESE FILM AND CULTURE (3 credits)In this course you will take an extensive look at the film world in Japan with specific attention to Japanese film history, promotion, and production. Course highlights include a personalized guided tour of Toho Film Studio (the studio for Akira Kurosawa’s films, among them Seven Samurai as well as Ishiro Honda’s Godzilla), conducted by its former president and head of the Japan Academy Award Committee, Shogo Tomiyama.

TOKYO LIGHTS: A CREATIVE WRITING SEMINAR (3 credits)In this course you will seek out and write about your own sense of place and self-discovery, from the seaside of Chiba to the streets of Tokyo and the shrines of Kamakura. The course features guest writers who will discuss their writing process with you, their sense of writing and craft, and the reasons they write.
