• Leeds International Summer School (LISS) is an exciting 4 week summer programme that takes place in
July at the University of Leeds, England
• A combination of academic study with experiential learning outside of the classroom on field trips &
excursions
• Meet students from all over the world!
Leeds International Summer School
Your studies
Study two modules lasting two weeks each and earn 20 Leeds Credits (equivalent to 10 ECTS). Academic module options:
Block One
• The English Country House: A Social History• Building Britain:,1700-1840: Industrial ‘Revolution’ or ‘Evolution’?• Music in Film• Introduction to Robotics & Autonomous Systems• Business & Cultural Awareness: Bridging the Gap• Creative Writing: Reinventing Tolkien• Wealth & Poverty: The Making of the Modern WorldBlock Two• Sport in the UK: Health & Performance Issues• Renewable Energy Systems: The Big Debate• Entrepreneurship & Society: Ideas, Opportunities & Value Creation• Heretics, Witches & Conspirators: A History of Fear, 1500-1700• British Literature & the Brontës• Exploring the law: Crime, Contracts & Legal Skills• Introduction to Digital Photography
Field trips & excursions
Module field trips: Each academic module includes at least one field trip providing hands on experiential learning - get out of the classroom! Previous module field trips have included Castle Howard, climbing at Brimham Rocks, company visits, the cities of Liverpool and Manchester.
Excursions: Harewood House, York, Whitby, Yorkshire Dales- experience the best parts of Yorkshire!
Cambridge & London: spend two nights in London at the end of the programme (and visit Cambridge on the way!)
Social Activities: Evening and weekend social activities are offered throughout the programme - visit Yorkshire towns by train, take part in a Brit pub quiz, visit national and local museums and much more!
Social assistants
The LISS Social Assistants are students currently studying at the University of Leeds who are there to help you make the most of your time in Leeds
• The social assistants live in the accommodation with you
• They attend module field trips & weekend excursions
• They also organise a variety of evening & weekend social events
• They know the city well so they can offer lots of advice on where to go and what to see during your time in Leeds!

• No hidden extras to pay - programme fee includes:

How to apply
1. Check you meet our eligibility requirements. To be eligible for our summer school you should:• have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 or equivalent
• be enrolled at a university, or be a recent graduate (ie have graduated within the past two to three years)
• have usually completed at least one semester of undergraduate study
• meet our language requirements (non-native speakers of English are required to have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent)
2. Complete the application form on our website and upload your supporting documents:• Supporting personal statement • A copy of your current university transcript• Academic reference letter• Scholarship application• IELTS certificate (non-native English speakers only)

When can you studyStudy for one or two semesters
• Semester 1: September – January
• Semester 2: January – June
Pre-sessional EnglishIf you do not meet our English Language requirements, or want to improve your English, you may be able to take an English course before your study abroad semester
• Before Semester 1: April, July or August start
• Before Semester 2: October start
How to apply
1. Check if you are eligible. To enrol on the study abroad programme you must have completed at least one year of study and be in good academic standing at your home university, with a grade of 2.1, GPA of 3.0 (US system), 5.5 (Australian system) or equivalent. You must also meet our English language requirements (if applicable)
2. Apply to your home university
3. Complete our online application form by the deadline:
• Semester 1: 31 March
• Semester 2: 31 October
You will have to choose modules on your application form, however module enrolment is a separate process
