MORE INFO @ FMVA.ORG 3

WELCOME to the FMVA STUDIO CRAWLThe members of Fargo Moorhead Visual Artists invite and welcome you to our 13th annual Studio Crawl. Whether it’s your first or thirteenth time attending, there’s always something new to take away from this large-scale community art event!

We encourage you to help celebrate and connect with our local artists by visiting them in their studios. Don’t be shy—ask questions! If you’ve ever been curious about the inspiration, technical, or creative processes that go into making art, the Studio Crawl is an excellent opportunity to actively investigate and learn. Art is much more than just the final product, and the Studio Crawl helps you to experience it!

Look through this brochure and you’ll find a talented mix of emerging and established visual artists to visit this weekend, along with special events hosted by our supportive sponsors. FMVA is a nonprofit organization that continues to grow in providing art opportunities for our regional visual artists, patrons, art enthusiasts, and community—including exhibitions, professional development, critiques, visual talks, social events, and networking opportunities. Volunteers run the organization—board members, technical support, and members who coordinate education, communications, membership, professional practices, and programming committees. These dedicated and generous individuals help FMVA support the arts and artists, partner with community, and provide artists with a collective voice.

Your participation in the Studio Crawl and other FMVA events lets us know our efforts are successful. Thank you!

SARAH DOTZENROD, FMVA Board President

P.S. Interested in getting involved? Consider making a donation, sponsoring an event, becoming a member, or even volunteering to serve on a committee. You’ll be directly supporting artists and the community audiences we serve. Find more information at fmva.org, e-mail us at [email protected], or connect with us through social media #fmvisualartists.

The FMVA thanks these businesses for providing our artistswith discounts as a benefit of FMVA membership.

My tile work has led me recently to expand and incorporate many more materials into my work. Things such as glass, metal, wood and even some split agates have become creations. Painting has also been one of my latest endeavors. I hadn’t done any creative painting since I was young. Come on in and check out the Cotton Lake Tile studio. I will be working on projects and having a special Studio Crawl sale. Refreshments will also be served. Look forward to seeing you!

I welcome you to stop by, see what’s happening in my studio, and engage with me about art in general. Some new drawings, paintings, and assemblages await your perusal. I’m looking forward to seeing you.

Throughout my art career, I have strived to have an equal balance of traditional and experimental, figurative and abstract in my art.

Art and prayer come together like Purple Hearts and Purple Eggs as symbols of Love. Traditionally black and white eggs are to honor departed souls. These decorative eggs were made for this purpose to honor the life and death of our beloved Prince.

I am tactile by nature and enjoy painting with bright and vibrant acrylic paints. I also enjoy working with different mediums and creating interesting textures. My paintings are a reflection of my life’s journey. I attribute my abstract style to my visual impairment. I was born with Optic Nerve Degeneration causing me to be severely visually impaired. I have never seen anything clearly, hence the name Blurred Lines Art Studio. People often ask how I can paint with such a visual impairment. My answer is always the same:it comes from within me.

22 MORE INFO @ FMVA.ORG

ERIC SYVERTSONEric grew up in Fargo and attended Fargo North High School and Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he graduated in 2008 with a BFA in art education. He’s employed as an arts instructor at Sheyenne High School in West Fargo—enthusiastically molding the next generation of artists—and his artwork is exhibited in shows throughout the region.

Eric Syvertson was a Fargo Moorhead Visual Artist board member from 2009-2012—as programming committee co-chair from 2009-2011 and as president 2010-2012. During his tenure, he helped to create a stronger organization with expanded programming, such as the FMVA critiques and visual talks. Eric implemented Play with Proportion, which morphed into the FMVA’s very successful Constraint Show.

Eric took two years off from his involvement with FMVA to pursue his Master’s degree at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and upon his return to the F-M area he’s been serving on the FMVA Professional Practices committee.

The FMVA has chosen Eric as its member of the year to acknowledge these accomplishments and to show our appreciation for his contribution to our arts community. Eric is a tireless arts advocate, an effective arts administrator, a very creative and gifted artist, and—cool factor squared—he assembles custom motorcycles. We’re proud to have him on the team.
