Vase no.5 is particularly interesting as the base curve was originally intended to be triangle with sharp corners. However the result of such loft would end in openBrep which could not be subdivided and obtain points necessary for establishing the second floating layer of geometry. The corner of the shape meant the points on the edge of the geometry would be quite far away from the others hence the gap in the outer shell.

The variation 4 is based on week1’s vase 6. The aim of variation 4 is to extract one point on the subdivided surface and use the point as the attractive point, to control the size of hexagons distributed on the normal of subdivision points. In tutorial demonstration the attractive point is built in rhino and referenced into grasshopper, I wanted something different and more challenging, which is have the least amount elements being actual rhino geometry and everything else to be parametrically modeled in grasshopper, and to rely on the least amount of numerical slider as possible. After several trial with different grasshopper I found the flatten tree would assign each individual point with a unique ID rather than having them under branched tree. The aim was successfully achieved and the overall expression is a combination of week1 and week2 demo with a few tweaked connections and the flatten tree command.
