Kai waits for his interrogation but it doesn’t take place. He reads the old man’s sad poem and feels lonely. While playing basketball, Kai and Young trick the guard. They gather plums from the tree.

Why was Kai so excited to see the plum tree?

After five weeks, Kai still believed that he would make it to the United States. What does this tell you about his character?

It is time for Kai’s interrogation. The interrogator begins to ask tricky questions. Kai begins to become bold as he answers them. After waiting for days, Kai finds out he will be allowed to join his father.
