Definitions

The topic sentence is the main sentence of a paragraph. It tells what the paragraph is going to be about.

A supporting (or detail) sentence is a sentence

that follows the topic sentence and supports or gives more detail about the main idea.

A concluding sentence is the last sentence of a paragraph, it summarizes everything that you just wrote about and it is somewhat like your topic sentence.

For Example…

Camels are called the "ships of the desert". They are used to carry people and loads from one place to another. They can survive many days in the desert without food and water. Their thick fur helps them to stop the sunshine from warming their bodies.

They have two toes on each foot, so they move very quickly on sand like a ship on the ocean!

For Example… Camels are called the "ships of the desert". They are used to carry people and loads

from one place to another. They can survive many days in the desert without food and water. Their thick fur helps them to stop the sunshine from warming their bodies. They have two toes on each foot, so they move very quickly on sand like a ship on the ocean!

Camels are domesticated. Not only do they help move things from place to place. They also provide people with milk, meat, and hair. Many things are made from camel hair. Camels provide humans with many needs.

Camels eat foods found in the desert. They eat plants, grasses and bushes. Camels

can get all the water they need from the food they eat. When they cannot find food, they use fat that is stored in their hump to get energy. Eating is not a problem for camel in the desert.

Camels’ bodies are made for living in the desert. Their wide feet keep them from sinking into the sand. They have long eyelashes, ear hairs, and closable nostrils that keep out the sand. They have long legs to keep them high above the hot sand. Camels are well-suited for desert living.

These “ships of the desert” are adapted to desert living and are helpful to human. They provide transportation, food and hair. They don’t need much water; and they eat desert plants. Camels have body parts that make desert living easy. Camels help humans in many ways.
