Page 3: Student teacher relation

Why this project?

“Matha pitha guro daivam” is what our nation has taught us .Teaching had been considered as a profession of honour and everyone respected teachers. But due to several factors its dignity has been severely affected. The education system has been totally commercialized. At some point we may have to agree to the fact that our campus is not too far from this reality. In the present scenario of our college, the topic has great Importance.

Importance of Good Teacher Student Relation A strong student teacher relationship can make

all the difference in how successful a student is.

When the student likes and respects the teacher, he/she will be more willing to learn from them.

When a teacher likes and respects a student, he/she is more likely to get a positive response from the student and therefore making the student more successful and the teacher getting more job satisfaction and contentment.

Page 5: Student teacher relation

In nitc, most students are hostellers. in a world of people of their own age in

their hostel and classes hardly anyone elder to them to provide

the necessary guidance having a good rapport with teachers in

the college, who can guide them, will ensure that the students don’t go astray

Page 6: Student teacher relation

Students can share their problems with mature teachers and get effective solutions.

The increasing depression in students resulting in use of drinks, drugs and even suicidal thoughts could be reduced tremendously by a good teacher to guide and help them out.

Page 7: Student teacher relation

Thus, this project tries to bring out the importance of having a good teacher student relationship in the college, not only to improve the quality of education, but for the overall development of the student character and personality.

Survey analysis

The number of students that each teacher personally knew in his/ her classes varied greatly, ranging from 5 to 108.

Page 10: Student teacher relation

The number of students sharing their personal problems with teachers was very few.

The main reason cited by students for this was “ I am not very close to any of my teachers. So how can we discuss personal matters with them?”

The most common response from teacher’s side was that they hardly get any time to spend with students after class hours, to meet them personally.

Page 11: Student teacher relation

Most teachers feel that teacher student interaction was better in their student days than now. Reasons are: Very hectic schedule, both for teachers and

students. The class strength has increased highly in these

years making it difficult to give individual attention. Students are highly influenced by internet and

mobile chatting and have no time to be with teachers.

Teachers are also very busy and hardly have any time to spare.

Many students go to classes just because attendance is compulsory, and to earn bookish knowledge.

Difference between school and college teachers

More than 90% of the students say that college teachers are more job oriented while school teachers considered developing a personal relationship with students as important too.

The students feel much more closer and free with school teachers.

Suggestions by teachers

The faculty adviser system followed is fair enough. But it’s the responsibility of students and teachers that they use the system properly. Student teacher ratio should be kept low to make the system more efficient.

Page 14: Student teacher relation

Friends should identify the problem of students and bring it out to teachers if it can’t be handled by them.

Teachers should be given opportunities to make use of their technical and organizing expertise in college fests to ensure that the standards of fests to be kept high.

Students should ensure participation of teachers in club programs.

Junior faculties and RTs are supposed to make regular visits to hostels.

Page 15: Student teacher relation

Students should reduce the usage of internet and mobile phones.

Both teachers and students have to make self evaluation.

Students must involve in more creative activities and outdoor games.

The students have become more easygoing. This attitude towards studies should change.

Vacation time should be reduced. This would increase the contact hours.

Page 16: Student teacher relation

Teachers want students to treat them as friends and not as enemies. They want students to respect them and not merely see the system as a commercial enterprise.

Page 17: Student teacher relation

Suggestions by students

Most of the students want to be cared by teachers.

The teachers should cover the syllabus on time, and give them sufficient time to study for exams.

Page 18: Student teacher relation

The teachers should be more friendly, and concerned about the students in overall personality development.

The fac-ad system should be implemented more effectively with lower student teacher ratio and the fac-ads should take time to hold frequent meetings to discuss various issues with the students he/she is incharge of.

Page 19: Student teacher relation

The club incharges should actively participate and support the activities of the club.

Teachers should be dedicated and impartial always, and shouldn’t discriminate between students on the basis of their gpa.

Teachers should be guides for students in all aspects. Rather than just teaching the syllabus, they should be ready to share their experiences in different fields so that students can learn from them.

Page 20: Student teacher relation

Conclusion

The survey reveals that there is a need for improvement of the student teacher interaction in the campus. Several measures such as promotion of joint activities for teachers and students would really help in the betterment of the situation. The efficiency of the fac-ad system should be ensured, and necessary changes to the sytem should be implemented at appropriate times. The important thing that we should not forget is that whatever be the system, finally it’s the attitude of students and teachers that makes a healthy campus.
