Academically Challenging Curriculum to Enhance Learning (ACCEL) Policies Section 1003.4281, F.S.

– Each school must offer, at a minimum,• Whole-grade and mid-year promotion• Subject-matter acceleration• Virtual instruction in higher grade level subjects

– School district is required to• establish student eligibility and procedural requirements• establish a process by which a parent may request student

participation in an ACCEL option that would result in the student attending a different school

– A performance contract must be executed if a student participates in an ACCEL option by parent request

– A performance contract is optional if a principal initiates a student’s participation in an ACCEL option

2

When Accelerated – Which Assessment?

• The student should participate in the FCAT assessment that matches the course number the student is receiving instruction in. If a student is accelerated to a higher grade level course the student should participate in that grade level assessment.

• Exceptions for skipping– Third grade reading – this is a statewide promotion

requirement– Civics – this is a middle grades promotion requirement– 10th grade reading – this is a statewide graduation

requirement– EOCs – these are statewide graduation requirements
