INTENTManoa Valley is University of Hawaii at Manoa’s college town. What Manoa Valley lacks is a community center.

CONCEPTThe Parti demonstrates the cluster of communal activities in Manoa Valley. This college town from left to right, shows the new community center next to the shopping cen-ter and finally the performing arts center. This building from left to right show the open-air stage next to the local artist exhibits and finally the private art gallery above.

The current Nu’uanu Pali lookout and hiking pathway is unsafe for visitors. In order to protect the 5 million per year visitors; a new bridge would be constructed to replace the beaten path.

This seamless ribbon-like bridge connects the current lookout to the new ridge. It will spread out the number of visitors in one area and increase the range of vision overlooking the Ko’olau Mountain range.

RUNDERSTANDINGSITE INVESTIGATION AND

ANALYSISShack Attack

CONCEPTOur 6 person team focused on one natural element, the sun.As you enter the space; the playful use of glass bottles and the colorful patterns of light are displayed. We used 1,600 recycled bottles and constructed the shack in 3 weeks.

INTENTTo renovate four existing structures used to analyze the absorption of heat from dif-ferent types of insulation for the school’s upcoming annual student architecture exhibit.

My partner and I focused on the design and con-struction of the roof.

First, we stripped the roof down to the structural mem-bers. Second, fabricatedoff-site glass bottle sunroofs. And third, install each sun-roof into the roof members.

The finish product dis-played different lighting depending on the time of day and/or the type of weather we were are having.

CONCEPTThe main and private sanc-tuary is represented with a deep height interior similar to classical cathedrals, while the other facilities have shorter height ceilings for adifferent social interaction.

INTENTDesign a mid-rise single family residential complex that is modu-lar and buildable on any generic site for any mid- to high- density cityscapes.

CONCEPTThe concept is derive from a tick-tack-toe floor plan with two-story single family units and a structural plan that is able to keep building higher, in case overpopulation occurs. In addition it incorporated Le Corbusier’s 5 points of Architecture.

Second Floor

INTENTThe new Church for Assisi, Italy was to hold church services

since the old Church of Assisi is unsafe for occupants.

On top of that, the site is located on a steep slope with strict program requirements, such facilities include: dining/recreation area, class-

rooms, commercial kitchen, several private offices and restrooms.

INTENTFollowing Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority and the International Building Code, our four person team designed a mixed-use building along the river side. Site restrictions and urban guidelines were critical to the shape and volume of the building’s functional area.

Eigth Floor Tenth FloorNinth Floor

CONCEPTThe concept is demonstrated in the Chinese ink painting (left), shows the wealth and stability that Singapore represents.

With that in mind, our team incorporated green spaces on each floor and con-trolled daylighting by orientating the building on a North South axis.

Conceptual Design

CONCEPTUsing natural materials like wood and stone, reinforced with modern construction materi-als to represent layering for protection against wind while letting sunlight in.

This year long project gave us a chance to produce a construction drawing set with MEP drawings of each of our buildings. The CD set was later handed to the client’s architect to fi-nalize for actual use.

Publication and funding started in 2007 through 2009 when the economy took a turn for the worse. Insufficient funding has placed this project on hold. Two buildings were cho-sen first to be constructed, the village meeting house and the new Methodist Church (LOTU).

INTENTThe client, who is the daughter of a Fijian chief, requested our graduate studio to design several structures on the village in Batiki, Fiji.

The project calls for replacing 8 structures in the main village. Therefore each student in this gradu-ate studio selected a building type to redesign.

Of the 8 building types, I selected the Methodist Church. Originally, the client intended to remodel it, but after meeting with the client her father wanted a new church. The new Methodist Church will oc-cupy roughly 200 people and include the flexibility for recreational/entertainment activities duringFijian island chief meetings held once a year.

with Duksung Women’s University Interior Design

Studio, Gangnam-Gu Project

INTENTOur design team consists of 5 people; two team members in our design studio collaborated with three members from our sister university in Seoul, Korea. The goal was to collaborate on a design that would best serve the neighborhood and revitalize the area.

CONCEPTThis commercial property would be the focal point of the neighborhood with a roof top garden and include local vendors for the neighboring of-fice buildings. At night it would light the area with a colorful light show and/or play ads for local businesses in the area. We intended the building to be a landmark that is identifiable in Gangnam-Gu district.
