Primary News Simon Dunn (Assistant Principal)

Wicked Excursion On Wednesday 21st students from Years 3 to 10 travelled to Melbourne to watch the stage production of Wicked. It was a fantastic day out! As with all ‘Griswald’ bus adventures involving children, there were vomit bags aplenty, a suspected broken ankle, a stint in a regional ER, ear deafening chatter and a very patient bus driver. Despite, the unplanned hiccups the excursion was wonderful in broadening the students’ cultural experiences and building their social independence. As a teacher it was great to look across the row of delighted and completely engaged faces during the show. The students thoroughly enjoyed the production, a big thank you to Chris Connellan and the admin girls for their thorough organisation of the day. Upcoming events In the coming weeks there are several events to mark in your calendar. These are: • Friday 30th May – PSSA Cross Country at Wakool • Friday 6th June – PSSA Athletics Carnival at Tooleybuc • Friday 13th June – Primary Term 2 Assembly at 11:15am • Wednesday 18th June – Primary Disco at Tooleybuc Sporting Club Please keep an eye out for notes coming home regarding these events.

Year One/Two (Michelle Jenvey Year One/Two Teacher) Students in Year 1-2 have settled into Term 2 very well. They are particularly enjoying the Science unit “Spot the Difference”. This unit allows students to investigate the changes that occur in foods from the raw/uncooked state to the cooked state. The last lesson saw students poking and prodding cooked spaghetti. They thought of very interesting adjectives to describe the smell and feel of the spaghetti. Afterwards students designed a picture which represented a line from a poem called “Spaghetti”. Here are the pictures.

Quin, “I found Wicked funny, strange, weird and a little disgusting.”

Tara,‘It was wicked, funny and sometimes it didn’t make sense.”

Music – Miss Rutherford The students have been exploring the basics of music and soundscapes. They have been composing using informal notation and performing these brief songs in class. This term the students are investigating World Music (also known as traditional music). They are also exploring composing using traditional notation.

Secondary News .

Schneewitchen- Murray Ogle

LOTE – German – Miss Rutherford Last term students explored aspects of the German culture. They also looked at some of the Brothers Grimm's original tales as most when originally written down we're not meant for children. The students’ assessment task for Term 1 was to create a board game based on one of the original tales and to be fully written in German. All the students made an effort with these. The following photos are some examples:

Der Froschkonig- Emma G

Hansel and Gretel- Madi

This term the students in LOTE are exploring how to begin and hold a very brief conversation. In doing this they are learning that in Germany there are informal and formal ways to greet, say and ask you name, age, where you are from and say goodbye.

Half Yearly Examinations Next week all students from Years 7 - 10 will participate in Half Yearly Examinations. The examinations will be a review of the learning undertaken so far this year. Students should have been busy revising for these examinations by reading of their books, creating summaries and asking questions or getting somebody else to ask questions from the information. Uniform This term I have been extremely impressed with the standard of secondary uniforms across the school. Students and parents are making a wonderful effort to ensure they are in uniform. There are a few secondary students wearing sneakers in class. Just a reminder that this is not acceptable and a majority of secondary classrooms require that leather shoes be worn to enter the room

Spaced: Art out of place Excursion Late in Term 1 on the 3rd of April 2014 Year 8 Visual Art students visited the Swan Hill Art Gallery to view the exhibition ‘Spaced: Art out of place’. This exhibition is a culmination of a three-year cycle of collaborative projects across Western Australia. Artists were invited to live and work for protracted periods of time in 16 communities, mostly small regional towns in Western Australia, in order to create new work through a dialogue with local residents.
