must be reported to the main office. 5. The office will not deliver messages to students

unless it is an emergency.

6. The office will make no delivery of flowers, balloons, food, et cetera to students.

CAR RIDERS These are the procedures for dropping off and/or picking up students at Loreauville High School. The designated area is on the side of the school near the entrance to the faculty parking lot on Ed Broussard Road. Please proceed down the road to the student parking lot and use the turn-around spot outside the gate, then enter Ed Broussard Road again and stop near the sidewalk at the entrance to the faculty parking area and allow your child to enter/exit the car on the school side of the vehicle without crossing the street. For the safety of your child, this is the only drop-off and pick-up designated area. Students are not to be dropped off or picked up on Main Street as this is a violation of safety policies and school rules. We appreciate your patience for waiting in the line that quickly forms during arrival and dismissal.

STUDENT DRESS CODE The policy of the Iberia Parish School Board shall be that no mode of attire will be considered proper for school wear that disrupts the classroom and/or the school's positive learning environment. In all questions regarding dress and grooming, the school administration has the prerogative of deciding whether a student’s appearance is disruptive to the learning process, or so offensive or suggestive as to distract

other students. Such appearances shall not be allowed. The Board desires to teach each student to use good judgment in his/her total appearance so that the attention of others is not distracted from the purpose of the school. Cleanliness and the values of the community shall be a basic consideration. DRESS AND PERSONAL GROOMING Student dress and grooming are not to adversely affect the students' participation in classes, school programs, and other school-related activities or detract from the learning environment of the school. Extremes in style and fit in student dress and extremes in style of grooming will not be permitted. Administrators are authorized to use their discretion in determining extremes in styles of dress and grooming and what is appropriate and suitable for school wear. No student shall wear, possess, use, distribute, display or sell any clothing, jewelry, emblem, blade, symbols, sign or other things which are evidence of affiliation with drugs, alcohol, violence or gang related activities or exhibits profane or obscene language/gestures. Beards shall be prohibited. Policies regarding dress and grooming stress the importance of reducing distractions that inhibit learning and are addressed as an attempt to enhance the learning environment. BODY ARMOR It shall be unlawful and against School Board policy for any student or non-student to wear or possess on his/her person, at any time, body armor on any School Board property, school campus, at a school-sponsored function, on a school bus or other school transportation, or in a firearm-free zone, with limited exception as enumerated in La. Rev. Stat. Ann. §14:95.9. School-sponsored functions shall include, but not be limited to, athletic competitions, dances, parties, or any extracurricular activities. A firearm-free zone means any area within one thousand feet of any school campus and within a school bus. Body armor shall mean bullet-resistant metal or other material intended to provide protection from weapons or bodily injury. The School Board shall notify all students of the provisions of this policy.

PLEASE REVIEW THE UNIFORM POLICY WHICH WAS REVISED FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR. UNIFORMS and OTHER DRESS CODE GUIDELINES Parents should not rely on stores for information regarding Iberia Parish uniforms. Parents should call their school or the Iberia Parish School System Central Office for information before buying questionable uniforms. Shirts:

White, navy blue, or hunter green short-sleeved or long-sleeved polo “golf” style shirts.

The shirt must have only 2 or 3 buttons and a collar.

School issued polo shirts or t-shirts may be worn on spirit days.

Shirts must be tucked in at all times, unless otherwise determined by the school administration.

There can be no brand name emblems on the shirts.

Undershirts, including turtlenecks, may be worn under all uniform shirts. They must be free of all emblems and writings and be a uniform shirt color, black, or grey.

Pants, Skirts, Walking Shorts, Skorts, Capris:

Students will wear khaki or navy blue pants, capris pants, shorts, skirts or skorts.

Pants may have pleats or straight fronts. Skinny, tight-fitting pants, or jeggings are not

allowed. Blue or khaki (denim material) jeans are not

allowed. Pants with elasticized waists & ankles are not

allowed. Pants with rivets, pockets sewn on the outside

or on the lower legs, holes, fraying, or exaggerated size (not to exceed twenty-two inches (22”) circumference at the bottom with no slits) are not allowed.

Waistbands on the pants must cover the top of the hipbone. “Sagging” is not allowed.

Brand name emblems on pants shall not exceed 1” x 2” in size.

Skirts, walking shorts, shorts, skorts, and capris shall have hemlines that do not exceed five inches (5”) from the floor while kneeling.

Belts:

Belts must be one solid color (black, brown, navy, khaki, or white) and worn with pants.

Decorative metal studs on belts are not allowed.

Large oversized belt buckles are not allowed.

Dimensions of belt buckle must not exceed one and one-half inches (1½”) in length and width.

Sweatshirts/Jackets:

Solid navy blue, black, or grey sweatshirts or sweater pullovers (elementary only) may be worn. They must be free of brand names and logos.

Denim (blue jean) jackets are not allowed. School issued items (jackets, sweaters,

sweatshirts) may be worn. Sweatshirts and jackets must be approved by

school administration. Hoodies are not allowed.

Non-uniform outerwear garments, if worn to school, shall not be worn inside the building.

Shoes-Socks:

Shoes must have a complete front and back. Athletic/tennis shoes are highly recommended. Other examples of acceptable shoes are

loafers, Top-Siders, and Mary Janes with a strap.

The following shoes are not allowed – flip-flops, thongs, sandals, crocs, boots, ballet shoes, and slippers.

Shoes with laces or Velcro must be kept tied or fastened.

Shoes with roller blades, lights, or extraordinary features are not allowed.

Socks shall be solid in color (white, navy, khaki, brown, or black.)

Pom-poms or emblems on socks are not allowed.

Tights that match the uniform may be worn without socks.

Hair:

Hair should be clean and groomed so that vision is not obstructed.

Hair rollers, feathers, *unnatural hair colors, letters/designs shaved or woven into the head/eyebrows, or other extremes in hair styles are not allowed. (*Unnatural is defined as not naturally occurring on people.)

Facial Hair:

High school students are permitted to have neat, clean, and trimmed mustaches.

Beards are not allowed. Side burns cannot extend below the earlobe.

Goatees are not allowed.

Jewelry:

Must not be excessive. Nose rings/studs, body piercing with jewelry,

tongue studs, eyebrow rings, gauges, etc. are not allowed.

Stud earrings worn by students are limited to the earlobe.

Only school IDs shall be worn on the outside of the school shirts.

Body Decorations:

Tattoos must not be visible with the school uniform.

Additional Information:

Students who transfer into Iberia Parish will be allowed two (2) weeks to purchase uniforms and comply with the policy.

Sunglasses, hats, caps, scarves, or any other type of head-gear cannot be worn in any of the buildings or buses at any time.

Spirit Day shirts may be worn with approved pants, skirts, shorts, or skorts on designated days as determined by the principal.

DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES FOR NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THIS POLICY ENFORCEMENT Students who violate the student dress code policy shall be subject to the following consequences:

First Violation:

Warning to the student and the parent shall be contacted by the school administrators to pick up their child and provide uniform clothing.

Second Violation:

Student shall be referred to the Adjustment Center for no more than two (2) days. Students will complete work assigned by their teachers.

Third Violation:

The student shall be referred to the Adjustment Center for three (3) days. Students will complete work assigned by their teachers.

Continuous Violation: Continuous violation shall result in the student being referred for a disciplinary hearing.

The restrictiveness of these guidelines is intended to establish minimum standards

required to comply with the dress code established herein. The principal/administrator has the discretionary power to prohibit certain dress or appearance, even though not specifically enumerated herein, to maintain the school learning environment. Students who violate the student dress code policy shall be disciplined according to the school’s PBIS Plan.

IDENTIFICATION PROCEDURES

IDENTIFICATION CARDS All students are required to wear their personalized LOREAUVILLE identification card, which is initially purchased during orientation and included in the registration fee.

When a student does not have his/her ID, he/she must obtain a temporary ID upon arriving at school. The cost is $1 before school. Temporary IDs purchased after the school day begins are $2.00. Students are not allowed to charge temporary IDs.

A student may purchase a new ID whenever needed at a cost of $6. LOREAUVILLE lanyards are available for $3. SCHOOL PLANNER All students are required to own a school planner. These planners will be checked periodically.

STUDENT TRAFFIC Students are not allowed in the halls unless approved by the teacher, counselor, or office staff. Students will carry an individual school planner that includes a hall pass section, which should be signed. If the student does not have his/her signed planner, he/she will not be allowed in the halls. If a student is found in the halls without his/her signed planner, he/she will be referred to the administration.

Any student determined to be in an unauthorized area will be subject to disciplinary action. Authorization must be obtained from a teacher, counselor, or office staff only.

RELATED COSTS

STUDENT ACTIVITY INSURANCE Insurance must be purchased by all students involved in extracurricular activities such as sports, band, dance team, or cheerleading, and any clubs that require after school activities or field trips. LOCKERS A book locker is included in the registration fees. All students will be assigned to a locker that he/she will be responsible for. Sharing of lockers is not permitted. Anything of value should not be put in the lockers and lockers must be locked at all times. P.E. lockers will be issued in P.E. classes. COMBINATIONS Locker combinations and locker numbers are issued with the lockers. Students are expected to keep these combinations for future reference. Should the student forget or lose the combination, a copy can be obtained in the office before school, lunch or after school only. DO NOT GIVE YOUR COMBINATION TO ANOTHER STUDENT. PARKING Parking on campus is a privilege, which may be revoked. According to the Iberia Parish School Board Policy E-1.2E, students who drive motor vehicles to school must obtain the proper operator license, liability insurance and register such vehicle with designated faculty member. Cost for student parking is $10. Unregistered vehicles parked on campus are subject to being towed away at the owner’s expense. Permits are valid for the school year issued only. Vehicles are subject to being searched according to the Iberia Parish School Board Policy H-3.4. OTHER FEES Students are responsible for paying fees in courses that require fees. If students do not meet this obligation, they will be referred to the administration and parent will be contacted. High school students are assessed a $30 class fee each year in grades 9, 10, and 11. These fees are to be paid to class sponsors to cover the cost of class-sponsored activities. These fees accumulate each year that they are not paid. Students are held accountable for unpaid monies for items such as fund raisers, lost textbooks, library books, class course fees, school pictures, P.E. uniforms, lab fees, etc. Participation in student

events with admission fees will be restricted until outstanding debts are paid. P.E. UNIFORMS A regulation uniform is required of all high school students. Information regarding purchasing P.E. uniforms will be provided by the P.E. Department. BOOKS 1. Each student is issued a set of books for

which he/she is responsible. 2. Should a student deface, damage, or lose a

book, he/she will be charged the replacement value.

3. Replacement charges do not constitute purchases.

4. If a student loses a book, he/she will have three school days to find it. If the book is not found, the teacher will refer the student to the administration. At that time parents will be contacted to set up a payment schedule.

MEALS Children need healthy meals to learn. Iberia Parish School Board offers healthy meals every school day. Menus are developed according to provisions of the National School Lunch Act. School lunch is planned to provide approximately one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances for students of each age group or grade level; school breakfast provides about one-fourth of the RDA. The Child Nutrition Program (CNP) will participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) which allows districtwide free student meals. No meal application will be required to receive free meals. Student Meals – Breakfast and lunch are available to all students free of charge. Adult Meals – IPSB staff may purchase meals at $2.30 for lunch and $1.25 for breakfast. Payment may be made to accounts by check, cash or online at myschoolbucks.com. It is prohibited for adults to “charge” meals. Visitor Meals – Visitors (upon advanced notice) may purchase meals at $3.50 at the time of meal service. Payment may be cash or money order. Meals from Home – All students and adults are encouraged to participate in the Child Nutrition Program. Meals may be brought from home with the following stipulations:

1) Bags and containers may not reveal advertisement of any kind (i.e. McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Capri Sun).

2) A designated area for students with meals from home may be required by the School Principal.

3) Milk, juice, and water may be available for purchase, with or without purchase of a school meal.

Diet Modifications – The Diet Prescription form must be completed by the student’s physician and signed. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. Physician must indicate all substitutions or none will be provided. Forms should be returned to the Cafeteria Manager who will make the necessary changes in the meal plan for the student. Diet Prescriptions will not be carried over from one school year to the next; an updated form must be completed annually and submitted before modifications can be provided. All student medical information is confidential and will be used only for the purpose of providing the student with appropriate nutritional care. (Diet Prescription forms will be available on the IPSB home page under the Quick Links.) Students may bring brown bag lunches to school for consumption at lunch. These lunches must be kept in lockers until lunch. Students may not have meals delivered on campus by anyone during the day. Students will not be permitted to go home for lunch unless they are on a special diet and present a certificate from a doctor testifying the same Policy H-2.7.

MEDICAL MEDICATION Medications are not to be given at school. Students are not allowed to have any kind of medication in their possession on the school grounds or buses. The school administers medications to students with special health care needs that can be expected to be of long duration. This policy limits the medication to be given to only those students that have chronic health problems such as asthma, behavior/attention problems and emergency situations. Antibiotics, aspirin, Tylenol and cough syrups cannot be administered by school personnel. Parents may come to school and administer medication to their child at any time during the school day after first checking with the office. Any student who is required to take medication during the regular school day must comply with school regulations. A form must be completed and signed by the parent or guardian and by a licensed physician/dentist prior to the administration of any

medication. The necessary forms may be obtained in the office. Once the forms are completed, parents must contact the office to schedule a meeting with the school nurse. Additional information regarding procedures will be provided to those students requesting the form. For additional information, contact the Iberia Parish School Board Office at 365-2341. PHYSICAL EXAMS Physical exams are required for those students participating in sports, dance team, and cheerleading. Students are not allowed to participate in extra-curricular events without a current physical. Documented results of the physical exams will be kept on file with the Athletic Director. If a student cannot take P. E. due to a physical disability, the student must provide documentation from a doctor stating the reason.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES If an emergency situation should occur, parents will receive notification as quickly as possible. Emergency drills and simulations will be practiced throughout the year as part of the standard operating procedures of the school. Students are expected to cooperate and follow the procedures outlined in class.

SEARCH POLICY According to the Iberia Parish Policy H-3.4 any teacher, principal, or administrator employed by the Iberia Parish School Board shall have the right, with probable cause, to search any building, desk, locker, area of grounds or other area in order to retrieve any weapon or illegal drug, contraband, etc. Searches may be conducted with the use of a drug dog and a metal detector, in accordance with LRS 416.3. It is further declared to be policy of the Iberia Parish School Board that any teacher, principal, or administrator employed by the Iberia Parish School Board, with reasonable belief have the right to search the person of said student, provided, that any such action of the teacher, principal, or administrator shall not be malicious or done willfully or deliberately with the intent to harass or intimidate the student. A teacher, principal or administrator may search the person of a student when there is probable cause to believe that the student has in his/her possession

material that is prohibited by federal, state or local law.

ATTENDANCE Attendance at LOREAUVILLE High School is a privilege. Although the State of Louisiana has a compulsory school attendance law which guarantees an educational opportunity for its youth, admittance to and continued attendance in a public school are privileges dependent upon the student’s compliance with the laws of the State of Louisiana, the policies of the Iberia Parish School Board, and the rules and regulations of LOREAUVILLE HIGH SCHOOL. It follows that when a student does not comply with the law, policies, or rules, the privileges of attending classes at LOREAUVILLE High School may be suspended or revoked. The State of Louisiana requires all students between the ages of 6 and 18 to attend school. The law places the responsibility for school attendance upon the parents, guardians, or other authorized persons. Act 59 allows 18 year old students who meet certain criteria to exit school in order to enroll in a board-approved adult education program or vocational-technical program. Students that are allowed to enroll in an adult education or vocational-technical program will be considered in compliance with the compulsory school attendance law. In order to be eligible to receive grades, high school students must attend a minimum of 85 days per semester or 167 days per school year. In other words, if a high school student misses more than 5.5 days per semester or a junior high student misses more than eleven (11) days, (excused or unexcused), the student will not receive grades for the courses enrolled. In accordance with state law, only the following reasons shall be considered valid absences: 1. Personal illness as verified by a physician. 2. Serious illness or death in the immediate family. 3. Emergency medical or dental attention. 4. Observance of religious holidays. 5. Other special reasons authorized by the Principal. The only exception to the attendance regulation shall be extenuating circumstances verified by the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance located at the School Board Office on Jane Street - 365-2341. Students who are verified as having met such circumstances are eligible to receive grades. However,

these students will not receive those grades if they are unable to complete make-up work or pass the course. The days absent for secondary students shall include excused absences, unexcused absences, and out of school suspensions. Students who participate in school approved activities which necessitate their being away from school shall be considered to be present and shall be given the opportunity to make up work. Absences received when a student checks out will count toward the permitted days allowed per semester. Loreauville High School does not recognize nor excuse “skip days” taken by groups of students. EXCUSED ABSENCES Students shall be considered excused from school for the reasons previously listed. They shall be given the opportunity to make up the work missed upon their return. This is the student’s responsibility. All other absences are considered unexcused. Parents will be notified by the school when their student misses 3 days. After 3 days of unexcused absences, the parent will be required to meet with the principal to discuss the absences. Further absences will result in the student and parent being referred to the school board’s Supervisors of Child Welfare and Attendance, then possibly the District Attorney’s Office. On the day a student returns to school from an excused absence, the student should present a written valid excuse to the office before the first bell in the morning. Valid excuses must be submitted within 10 school days of the absence/absences. MAKE-UP WORK Missed work may be made up in the afternoons at Fifth Block which is held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:45 until 4:00 PM. On early dismissal Thursdays, 5th Block is held on Wednesday. Parents are to provide transportation from Loreauville High School. Any work not made up within the allowable period following the return to school will be recorded as a “0". LATE ARRIVAL/CHECK-IN Students who come to school at any time after the first tardy bell in the morning must check in at the office before reporting to any classes. Students arriving late, who do not have a doctor’s excuse, must be checked in by a parent, guardian, or designee. Late students who do not have a parent, guardian, or designee to sign them in will be assigned to the adjustment center until a parent can be reached.

CHECK-OUT A parent or authorized adult must come to school to check-out a student. Students are to fill out a check-out slip and give it to their teacher. The teacher will send the form to the office. The office will contact the parent, guardian, or designee regarding the check-out and the student is to remain in class until contacted by the office. Students are not authorized to phone their own check out. Parents must grant written permission for students who drive to check-out. Students are not permitted to leave school without signing out in the office. Who Can Check Out A Student: The parent/guardian may provide names and contact numbers of those individuals authorized to check in/out their student. The form is kept on file in the office. Blank forms may be picked up in the school office. All persons checking students in or out must present picture identification to the secretary. TARDIES Students are expected to be in the classroom seated when the tardy bell rings. Students will be given tardies if they arrive in class after the bell rings to begin class. The teacher will record the tardy and the student will be assigned to lunch detention which is the first 15 minutes of lunch. During lunch detention, students are to read. If a student fails to attend lunch detention, the student is assigned 2 lunch detentions. Failure to attend then results in referral to administration. If a student arrives in class or in the office between 7:27 a.m. and 7:35 a.m., the student will be given a tardy but allowed to attend class. After 7:40 a.m. the student will be required to follow the check-in policy with a parent signature. A tardy and/or absence will be assessed depending upon check-in time.

ACADEMICS DISABILITIES Students with disabilities can access appropriate services and accommodations through the School Building Level Committee. To be classified as a junior, a student must have at least 12 credits. To be classified as a senior, a student must have 18 credits. To be eligible for graduation, a student must complete 24 credits for Core 4, Basic Core Diplomas, and Tops University. 23 credits are required for Jump Start TOPS Tech Diplomas. ATTAINMENT OF CREDITS Attainment of credits will be determined by the following criteria: 1. State mandated curriculum evaluation; 2. Tests which are based on course objectives; 3. Student performance on course related special

assignments, such as homework and projects; 4. Teacher evaluation of the student’s

progress. Identified special education students who are assigned to regular education instructional programs must meet the parish and state minimum standards. To pass a subject, a student must achieve an average of at least 1 quality point for the course. Credits for courses are determined as follows: 1. ½ credit course - students must acquire 2

quality points to earn credit. 2. 1 credit course - students must acquire 4

quality points to earn credit. Additionally, students must acquire a minimum of 2 quality points during the last 2 grading periods of a course with at least 1 point earned the 4th grading term. In courses that require End-of Course (EOC) tests, the EOC will count as 20% of the student’s final average for the course.

CLASS RANKING Guidelines for Ranking Honors Program Students for Graduation: Only students who successfully complete the Honors

Program will be eligible to compete for Valedictorian and Salutatorian, Master or Mistress of Ceremony, and Distinguished graduates. Stoles are presented to all Distinguished graduates.

Students who complete the Honors Program with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 unweighted or better will be recognized at graduation as the Distinguished Graduates and will sit on the first row for the graduation ceremony.

For graduation purposes only starting with the Freshmen class of 2014-2015 and beyond, grade point averages will be weighted according to the amount of Honors, Gifted and Advanced Placement classes for each student that finishes with at least a 3.5 GPA or above unweighted in the honors program. This will determine seating order for graduation.

Weighted grade point averages will be calculated on Honors Program students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher (Distinguished Graduates).

Graduates that have completed the honors program will be recognized after the Distinguished graduates on the first row and will be seated according to their unweighted grade point averages.

CUMULATIVE POINT AVERAGE (CGPA) Cumulative grade point average is calculated on a four point scale. Final averages are used with quality points assigned as follows:

A = 4 quality points B = 3 quality points C = 2 quality points D = 1 quality point

The number of quality points awarded for a course will be adjusted to reflect the number of credits involved such as 1 credit, ½ credit or 2 credit courses. All courses attempted will be included for the CGPA purposes. GRADUATION Full participation in the graduation ceremony at LOREAUVILLE High School is a privilege and not a right for the individual student and his/her parents. Therefore, the privilege of graduating with one’s class

on graduation night is governed by the following principles: Successful completion of the course of studies and EOC (End of Course) testing required by the State. Certification by LOREAUVILLE High School administrators as having followed the rules and regulations of the school to such a degree that the student has earned the privilege of being able to participate in the graduation ceremony. These rules and regulations specifically include the section on suspension and expulsion. However, other breaches of rules and regulations may be considered by the administration before bestowing on the student the privilege of being able to participate in the graduation ceremony.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR

DEPARTMENT The school counselor strives to aid all students in realizing their abilities to the fullest, in making sound choices, and in developing self-understanding. The counselor can aid in solving personal problems in a confidential atmosphere. SERVICES Individual and group counseling is available. Recommendations, evaluations, and referrals initiated by the classroom teacher are coordinated through this department. The counselor administers and interprets tests, plans and conducts orientation programs, and counsels students in selecting courses. The counselor provides career and educational information and arranges for home instruction and tutoring. The guidance office also provides information for colleges, technical schools, the military and vocational training programs. The counselor also coordinates referral services to various community agencies. SCHEDULES Schedules are set up by the counselor using the student requests. Changes to schedules will not be made unless there is an error. Requests for changes must be made through the counselor and approved by a school administrator within the 1st week of a semester.

STUDENT RECORDS Parents are entitled to inspect their student’s records. A pictured ID will be required when the records are requested. FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS PRIVACY ACT In accordance with the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA), Iberia Parish School Board and any of its schools will not disclose personally identifiable information within education records to third parties, without prior written consent of the parent or eligible student. The parent and/or eligible student may request the corrections of education records which they believe to be inaccurate or misleading. Education records include, but are not limited to the following:

Final course grades. Student grade point average/ transcripts. Standardized test scores. Attendance records. Academic counseling records. Assessments required by No Child Left Behind

Act. It shall be the policy of Iberia Parish School Board and any of its schools that directory information may be disclosed without consent of parent or eligible student. Directory information is information contained in a student’s education records that would not generally be considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed. Such information may include:

Name/mailing address. Telephone/E-mail. Photograph. Dates of Attendance. Participation in officially recognizing student’s

activities or sports team. Grade level/enrollment status. Student athlete’s weight and height. Diploma, honors, and awards received. Most recent prior school attendance.

If the parent or student does not want this information disclosed, then they shall notify the school and/or school board in writing. CONFERENCES Students are encouraged to meet with the counselor before school, during lunch, or after school. Appointments to see counselor should be scheduled.

HOMEWORK In the event a student is absent from school for three or more consecutive school days, the office will secure the student’s homework assignments. Parents are to call the office before 9:00 a.m. to request the homework. It may be picked up in the office after 2:00 p.m. ENVELOPE SYSTEM To keep parents better informed of grades and pertinent information, the envelope system will be used. The administration will provide the envelopes to the homeroom teachers. The homeroom teachers will fill envelopes and give to their students. The students must bring the envelope home for their parent’s signature and return it to school the following day. If a student has lost the envelope, he/she will have to pay for a replacement envelope. If the student forges the parental signature, he/she will be subject to disciplinary action.

INTERNET Iberia Parish Acceptable Use Policy The Internet is a global collection of thousands of interconnected computer networks ranging from PC’s to sophisticated mainframes. The Internet includes computer systems owned by the governments throughout the world, university computer systems, computer systems owned by corporations which include news organizations and many systems run by non-profit organizations. The Internet can provide a wealth of information, acting almost as an on-line, up to the minute, perpetual library. The information on the Internet can be a valuable tool in the education of the students of Iberia Parish. The use of the school computers and the Internet access will be for appropriate education uses, including research and the exchange of information consistent with the goals of the Iberia Parish School System. The objectives in providing access to the Internet are the following: To educate the learner on how to access and use

the vast amount of information available on the Internet.

To educate the learner on the safety issues involved in the use of the Internet.

Students will not give out personal information such as home address, telephone number, parent’s name, or parent’s work phone, personal financial information, the name or location of the school, or the school’s phone number without permission of the principal.

Students will never agree to, or arrange a “face to face” meeting with anyone they have met online.

Students will immediately exit any area accidentally accessed which can be considered obscene or sexual in nature and will report the area to the teacher or librarian for documentation.

Students will tell the teacher, librarian, principal, and/or parent if they come across any information which makes them feel uncomfortable, so that it can immediately be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Students will never access the Internet or other online services or Bulletin Board Systems, without first being given permission by the teacher or librarian.

Students will not access, upload or download information which might be considered potentially hazardous to any person or property.

Students will not use e-mail to send material that might offend or be objectionable to anyone.

Students will not subscribe to Listserves, Bulletin Boards, and any online service without approval of the teacher and the district technology coordinator.

Students will not copy software from home onto any district computer nor copy any district software.

When using the Internet, the student understands that the Iberia Parish School System cannot control what is available over the Internet and agrees to follow the rules of ethical behavior for computer use and further agrees to make no deliberate effort to access material that may be objectionable or inappropriate for school use. Any student not following the acceptable use of the Internet and the rules for student safety will be subject to the disciplinary consequences of the teacher, school and/or school board in exactly the same manner as he or she would be disciplined for any other violation of a school rule. Additionally, this could include loss if Internet privileges. A copy of these rules is included in the information packet sent home the first week of school. Parents and students are to read the rules and sign the form which states “I have read and agree to the guidelines and disciplinary consequences associated with the Internet use in any class or school in the parish”. If the form is not returned, the student will not be allowed to use the Internet on the LOREAUVILLE campus.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS LOREAUVILLE offers a wide variety of clubs designed to fit student interests. Students are encouraged to become members of the different clubs and take part in the special activities they provide. BETA AND JUNIOR BETA This is an honors organization on campus. Any student with an overall average of “B” or better is invited to join. CHAPEL CLUB Students may join a group of students who lead others in voluntary prayer. The club participates in community service projects and other worthwhile activities. 4-H 4-H stands for Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. The club’s motto is “To make the best better”. The club colors are green and white. To be a member a student must have a 4-H member’s record book from a past year or the approval of the faculty advisor. Members must pay their dues and attend all meetings unless absent from school. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Students with a 3.5 or higher GPA are invited to apply for membership at the end of their sophomore year and/or junior year when qualified. Members must be entering their junior or senior year, maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA and demonstrate qualities of leadership, service to community, and outstanding moral character. Members must regularly attend chapter meetings, participate in required service projects, follow school rules, maintain good character, participate in leadership roles, and complete required service hours. STUDENT COUNCIL The Student Council is open to all students. Any student may run for election if he/she meets the requirements. The elections take place during the last grading period. Students run for election and vote in a general election after presenting a speech before the student body. Student Council members represent the school at any official school function. In addition, the Student Council

is a service organization and the members help in the efficient organization of student activities. HOMECOMING Seniors who participate in at least 2 extracurricular organizations may wish to be included on the ballot for the homecoming court. Students will elect court members from the nominations. The queen, 1st, & 2nd maids will be announced during half-time of the home coming game.

DANCES EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Students will have the opportunity to attend several dances and extra-curricular activities while attending Loreauville. Students are expected to have their school ID at all school functions. At all dances, at least one member of a “couple” must be a student at Loreauville and present their ID to enter the dance. At all functions, students are expected to dress in an appropriate manner. Students will be asked to leave the function by the administration if their attire or behavior is not acceptable. These are school-sponsored events and school rules apply. Dates/times of dances will be provided.

STUDENT CONDUCT BEHAVIOR The behavior and conduct of students attending LOREAUVILLE High School shall reflect the following six pillars of character:

Students are responsible for following the general rules and procedures of the school and the specific classroom rules established by the teachers. Each student is accountable for his/her own behavior. Regulations are not intended to restrict the student, but rather to encourage proper and safe behavior. Students at school and at all school-sponsored activities both on and off campus are to refrain from the following: 1. Participating in a fight or encouraging disruptive

behavior, or behaving disorderly.

2. Disrespecting persons in authority, including faculty and staff.

3. Teasing, taunting or disrespecting other students. 4. Possessing or using alcoholic beverages, tobacco,

drugs, lighters, matches, or related paraphernalia. 5. Using profanity. 6. Defacing or vandalizing school property. 7. Leaving campus without permission. 8. Stealing. 9. Violating vehicular traffic regulations. 10. Public displays of affection.

FELONY OR SERIOUS MISDEMEANOR Any student who is arrested and charged with a felony or serious misdemeanor involving an illegal substance or weapon which would be prohibited in a drug-free and/or weapon-free zone in an on or off campus incident will not be allowed to participate in any extra-curricular activities unless and until they are completely cleared of charges. A mandatory meeting with the administration is required.

IBERIA PARISH SCHOOL BOARD POLICIES

BULLYING, THREATENING, OR VIOLENT BEHAVIOR Students and their parents/guardians are reminded that the school and school bus environments are to be safe and secure for all. Therefore, all statements of a bullying, threatening, or violent nature made on campus, at school-sponsored activities or school buses, will not be tolerated. Even if made in a joking manner, these statements threatening other students, school personnel, or school property are unacceptable. THREATENING/VIOLENT STATEMENTS Whether written or verbal, such threats will be dealt with severely. School authorities will conduct an investigation to determine the severity of the incident.

Students who have made a verbal threat overheard by a staff member or reliable student witnesses will be disciplined which could warrant suspension and possibly a recommendation for expulsion from school. Students who write a hit list or death threat shall be recommended for expulsion. BULLYING The terms harassment, intimidation, and bullying shall mean any intentional gesture, written or verbal, or physical act that: (A) will have the effect of harming a student or

damaging his/her property or placing a student in fear of harm to his/her life or person or damage to his/her property; and

(B) is so severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for a student.

Any student, school employee, or parent volunteer who, in good faith, reports an incident of harassment, intimidation, or bullying to an appropriate school official, in accordance with the procedures established by local board policy, shall be immune from a right of action for damages arising from any failure to remedy the reported incident. Recommended disciplinary actions are as follows: First Offense: Three day suspension and contract signed by student, parent or guardian, and administrator Second Offense: Five day out-of-school suspension with recommendation for expulsion Third Offense: Expulsion Depending upon the severity of the incident, the principal may suspend and/or recommend expulsion on the first offense. Other actions that may be taken for any of the above offense of threatening or bullying include, but are not limited to, referral to law enforcement officials, and/or referral to Families in Need of Services (FINS). It is strongly recommended that parent/guardian seek additional counseling for these students. STUDENT DISORDERS The Iberia Parish School Board recognizes the necessity of good communication between the school principal and his faculty and students. The Board also recognizes the responsibility of the principal to maintain order and discipline and does hereby adopt the following policies and procedures to

aid and support him in carrying out these responsibilities. 1. The principal will notify the superintendent of

any incipient unrest in the student body. 2. No disorderly demonstrations, sit-ins, lock-ins,

lock-outs, damage to school grounds, school plants, school property or records will be tolerated.

3. Any type of demonstration that prevents the orderly progress of a school day, or that prevents normal class functions, or that prevents nonparticipating students from their usual class activity will not be tolerated.

4. Students participating in such demonstrations will be removed from the school grounds, by force if necessary.

5. Students suspended will not be allowed to return to the school until the suspension is lifted.

6. No outside agitators will be allowed on the school grounds.

CODE OF CONDUCT 1. No smoking on campus. Tobacco in any form

is not to be exposed in pockets or other places. Students with cigarettes exposed will be considered smoking. Students caught in a small group where one or more are caught smoking will be considered taking part in the smoking.

2. Absolutely no fighting will be tolerated on the school grounds, bus or bus stops. Fighters will be suspended immediately. Second offense fighters may be referred for an expulsion hearing.

3. Knives, rakes, or sharp objects such as pointed combs and brushes or anything considered to be a weapon by the administrators will not be permitted on the school grounds. If seen, these objects will be confiscated and student may face disciplinary consequences.

4. No foul or vulgar language will be permitted on the school grounds. This includes notes and printed literature.

5. Students who have in their possession any drugs or alcohol, will be immediately suspended from school, will have a hearing at the school board office and face expulsion. The information will be turned over to the local law enforcement agency if necessary.

STUDENT USE OF PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES

LRS 17:239, 17:416, 17:416.1 – No student shall have in his/her possession any personal electronic device, including any mobile telephone service device (cell phones, Blackberries, camera phones), any other electronic telecommunication device, or other electronic devices, including but not limited to cameras, video tape recorder, audio recorder, digital recorder of any kind, iPods, tape players, CD players, video games, MP3 players, Palm Pilots, and their contents, while in any elementary or secondary school building, or on the grounds thereof, or in any school bus used to transport public school students to and from school. Devices discovered in the possession of students shall be confiscated. Refusal to relinquish a device constitutes willful disobedience and shall be handled accordingly. The school shall not be responsible for confiscated items if not picked up by parent within ten (10) days of the last day of school. The School Board shall not be responsible for any electronic devices, including cell phones, lost or damaged while on School Board property. A properly authorized medical device worn by a student shall not be considered to be in violation of this policy. Consequences will be imposed according to Iberia Parish School Board Policy. DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS In all questions regarding dress and grooming, the administration has the prerogative of deciding whether a student’s appearance is disruptive to the learning process or is so offensive or suggestive as to distract other students. Such appearance will not be allowed. Any student who repeatedly has to be warned of violating the dress code will be subject to disciplinary action.

Repeated violations of school uniform dress code rules and other infractions will result in more severe consequences. Students will not be allowed to bring drinks, snacks, gum, or other foods while serving detention. NOTE: Parents will be required to provide transportation for students that are assigned to before school detention -- bus transportation is not available. ADJUSTMENT CENTER A student who has committed an offense that is punishable by suspension from school may be assigned to the Adjustment Center for in-school suspension or to the Alternative Center (ACE) depending on the severity of the disciplinary referral. While in the Adjustment Center, students are not allowed to attend regular classes, but they are assigned work by their classroom teachers that relates as closely as possible to what is being done in the classroom, and in many cases, it is the same work being done by students in the regular classroom setting. The Adjustment Center teacher supervises the students in their performance of their work and checks for its completeness. Should a student be suspended off campus from the Adjustment Center, when he/she returns to school the remaining days in the Adjustment Center prior to the off-campus suspension must be fulfilled before the student is allowed to return to regular classes. There will be a required parent conference during the time that a student is in the AC. Time and date will be arranged by the AC Coordinator. DRUG TESTING POLICY

The Iberia Parish School Board does not condone the use of drugs for any purpose other than for medical reasons. The Iberia Parish School Board has a comprehensive drug testing program. The purpose of this program is to evaluate, and rehabilitate our students involved in extra-curricular activities. Drugs are a serious problem because the use of drugs is:

1. Students involved in extra-curricular activities will be selected at random to be tested during the academic year. All students involved in extra-curricular activities are subject to testing, will be placed in a common selection pool, and selection will be made by a statistically valid method.

2. Students involved in extra-curricular activities

are also subject to reasonable suspicion testing when an employee in conjunction with another school board employee believes based upon objective and articulable facts, due to specific, contemporaneous physical, behavioral, or performance indicators, that any student involved in extra-curricular activities is using drugs or is otherwise in violation of this policy. In all instances the principal will be notified.

3. The drug testing will be done by an outside

firm contracted by the Iberia Parish School Board. The specimens collected will only be tested for the prohibited drugs listed below. The testing firm will collect the specimen and will handle the chain of custody and reporting of the results. Testing may be done by urine or hair sampling. The specimens will not be tested for any disease or conditions other than drug use.

4. Confidentiality - Information regarding a

student’s test will be released only under the following conditions: a) Information that a student involved in extra-curricular activities tested positive on a drug test will immediately be communicated by the MRO (Medical Review Officer) to the Iberia Parish School Board administrator. The only people who will be informed by the Iberia Parish School Board administrator of a positive screen is the school principal, the sponsor of the extra-curricular program, and the students’ parents and/or guardian b) Information that must be released due to judicial order.

5. The Iberia Parish School Board reserves the

right to test students involved in extra-curricular activities for the following ten classes of drugs: Amphetamines, Opiates, Cocaine, Cannabinoids (50 nanograms), Phencyclidine, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Methaqualone, Propoxyphene, and Methadone.

6. If a student involved in extra-curricular

activities tests positive for any drug, he/she

must adhere to the following:

A. First Time Offender - if a student involved in extra-curricular activities tests positive for any illegal drug, he/she will be suspended from participating in all extra-curricular activities for (1) calendar year and will not be allowed to try out or participate in any extra-curricular activities until a negative test has been obtained within five (5) days before the one (1) calendar year suspension expires. The cost of the retest is at the parent or student’s expense.

B. The student involved in extra-curricular activities will also be referred to Substance Abuse Family Education (SAFE) Program and Family In Need of Services (FINS) Program and provided with a list of available services for substance abuse in the community. The responsibility to utilize these services rest with the student and his/her parents.

C. Second Time Offender – If a student involved in extra-curricular activities tests positive a second time for any drug he/she will be suspended from competition for the remainder of his/her high school years.

NOTES: 1. If a student involved in extra-curricular

activities is suspended, the student will not be allowed to participate in practice, competition, or any organized activity with his or her respective team.

2. Any student involved in extra-curricular activities who tests positive can be retested at anytime during his/her high school career.

3. The Iberia Parish School Board policy

concerning drugs will be enforced if any student is found in possession or under the influence of drugs on any Iberia Parish School Board campus or at any Iberia Parish school function

4. A student who refuses to be tested/re-tested

will be dismissed from all athletic programs.

5. It is hereby recognized that participation in an extra-curricular activity is a privilege. It is not a right. The application of the above procedure shall not guarantee the participation of any

student in any extra-curricular activity. Immediate dismissal from any extra-curricular activity for any cause is hereby reserved to the sponsor of said activity.

Definition of extracurricular activity - those activities which are not directly related to the program of studies and which are under the supervision and/or coordination of the school instructional staff and which are considered valuable to the overall development of the student. Appeals Process – Any determination of a positive test and resulting penalty can be appealed by the student to an appeals committee consisting of: the school principal, a Student Service Supervisor, and a sponsor other than that of the student involved. The student involved in extra-curricular activities must file the appeal with the Superintendent within 5 days of notification. The appeal hearing will take place within 5 days of the date of appeal. Upon a proper showing, the appeal process must include a retest of the original sample performed by or for the Iberia Parish School Board at the parent’s expense. SEXUAL HARASSMENT It is the policy of the Iberia Parish School Board to provide an environment that is free from unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct or communications deemed to constitute sexual harassment under federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines. The Iberia Parish School Board will not tolerate sexual harassment and such conduct will be grounds for discipline which could include suspension/expulsion. Sexual harassment, as defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is any “unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. DANGEROUS WEAPONS IPSB Policy JCDAC; Cf: JCAB, JDD, Cf: JDE The principal of each school shall immediately suspend and recommend expulsion for any student found in possession of a dangerous weapon on the school grounds, on school buses and/or at any school-sponsored event, at any time, during or after regular school hours, with limited exception as permitted by state law. A dangerous weapon means any gas, liquid, or other substance or instrumentality which in the manner used, is likely to produce death or great bodily harm. When the student is found in possession of a weapon, the Superintendent shall be immediately notified and the principal shall take appropriate disciplinary action.

If a student is detained for carrying, or the principal or designee confiscates or seizes a firearm or concealed dangerous weapon from a student while on school property, on a school bus, or at a school function, the principal or school official shall immediately report the detention of the student or seizure of the firearm or weapon to the police department or sheriff’s office where the school is located and shall deliver any firearm or weapon seized to that agency. If a student is detained for carrying a concealed weapon on campus, the principal shall immediately notify the student’s parents or legal guardian. Imitation or Toy Weapons Any object in the form of a weapon, whether it is imitation, facsimile, or a toy, shall be banned from school campuses, buses, and all school activities. The uninvited presence of an imitation, facsimile or toy weapon on school campuses may cause confusion, fear, and disruption to the academic goals and educational process. Any student violating this policy may be suspended for duration as determined by the principal and/or recommended for expulsion. Firearm-Free Zones It is unlawful for a student or nonstudent to intentionally possess a firearm or dangerous weapon on school property, at a school sponsored function, or within 1000 feet of school property or while on a school bus at any time. The area surrounding the school campus or within 1000 feet of any such school campus, or within a school bus shall be designated firearm-free zones. The School Board, in cooperation with local governmental agencies, and the Louisiana Department of Education, shall designate and mark firearm-free zones which surround all schools and school property. SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICIES Message to Parents and Students from Superintendent, Dale R. Henderson: “The Iberia Parish School Board and its employees are committed to the creation of a drug-free environment for all of the students of our parish. We believe that the only way in which we can provide quality educational programs for our students is to implement appropriate safeguards which will prevent substance abuse. “The need for parental and community involvement in this on-going process of substance abuse prevention education is imperative. educators must continually reinforce the message of the detrimental effects of illegal drug use. We must also teach our students about drug dealers who entrap our children with free drugs to develop a dependency or to allure them with ‘quick money’. “It is the intent of the Iberia Parish Safe & Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program to enforce the laws set forth by the State of Louisiana. We provide this publication to each parent, and in turn to their child, so that everyone will understand the necessary disciplinary action which will be taken against violators. “A united effort is necessary to keep our schools safe and drug free!”

Dale Henderson/Superintendent DRUG/ALCOHOL PHILOSOPHY The Iberia Parish School Board is committed to actively confronting the drug/alcohol problem which adversely affects the health, welfare and ultimately, the equability of our students. The Iberia Parish School Board recognizes that the use of alcohol and other drugs and the concomitant problems associated with such use seriously impairs the entire educational environment. The Iberia Parish School Board also believes that it is in the best interests of the community to take steps to promote, enhance, and maintain a drug-free school system. The Board also believes that maintaining drug-free schools is a share partnership among school personnel, students, parents, and other members of the community. In an attempt to provide a safe, drug-free school environment for the students in Iberia Parish, a clear, zero-tolerance policy has been established for possession, consumption and distribution of illegal/controlled substances. The Iberia Parish School Board neither condones nor accepts the illegal use of alcohol by minors; however, the Board does recognize that students behave in accordance with prevailing societal attitudes. Therefore, stricter consequences and increased substance abuse education is hereby warranted. I. STUDENT SMOKING POLICY JCDAA,EB The Iberia Parish School Board shall prohibit the possession, chewing, smoking and/or any other consumption of any tobacco or tobacco product or carry, use, have, possess, distribute, sell, give or lend any tobacco or tobacco product, cigar, cigarette, pipe, or any other device for the use of tobacco in any form, by a student on the grounds of any school, in any school building, any school facility, or on any school bus. Parental permission to possess, smoke, or

otherwise consume any tobacco or tobacco product does not exempt a student from this policy. Violations shall subject the student to appropriate disciplinary action. La Rev. State. Ann 17:240, 17:416 II. STUDENT SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY In the Iberia Parish School System, every student shall be involved in an age-appropriate, developmentally based alcohol, drug, substance abuse, and violence prevention education program for a minimum of 16 contact hours for students in kindergarten through the 9th grade and eight contact hours for students in 10th grade through 12th grade every school year. The education program shall emphasize to students that the unlawful possession and/or use of alcohol, prescription or over-the-counter drugs, and illicit drugs is wrong and harmful. III. PROCEDURE FOR DEALING WITH POSSESSION OF ALCOHOL, DRUGS, OR CONTRABAND WITHIN IBERIA PARISH SCHOOLS The following procedures will be followed when drugs or contraband of an illegal nature, i.e. alcohol, crack, marijuana, cocaine, heroin, et cetera, along with any and all equipment or paraphernalia which can be utilized to enhance their effects are believed or determined by principal/designee to be in the possession, use, or being sold by students on or in school property, i.e. grounds, buildings, sporting facilities, et cetera, at school activities away from school property or in school buses when associated with school supported function, including transportation to and from school as well as during field trips. A. A Drug/Alcohol Administrative Committee will be established within the Iberia Parish School System to address infractions by students. The committee will have the following members:

1. Chairman, Student Services Supervisor.

2. Principal/designee and school support personnel as deemed necessary.

3. Parish Substance Abuse Coordinator. 4. Special Education Complaint /

Compliance Officer for Special Education Students.

The presence of the student and parent(s) / guardian(s) at the hearing will be mandatory. B. Procedures:

1. Upon reasonable cause, the principal will contact the parent(s) / guardian(s), the Supervisor of Child Welfare / Attendance and law enforcement officials as needed, giving each party the details of the infraction.

Criminal charges will be filed as deemed necessary by the appropriate law enforcement agency. The student(s) will be suspended until a hearing is held. A receipt process will be utilized whenever a member of the Hearing Committee transfers material confiscated on school property to the Acadiana Crime Lab or law enforcement department for analysis. A copy of the receipt will be retained by the principal of the school and by the office of the chairman of the Drug Hearing Committee for the duration of that school year. 2. The Supervisor of Child Welfare/Attendance, with the assistance of the principal, will set the date on which the hearing will be held. This hearing must be scheduled no later than five (5) school days following the date of the infraction as prescribed in Policy JCAA, JDD, JDE – “Student Due Process”. 3. The supervisor shall formally notify all committee members, the parent(s)/guardian(s) and law enforcement officials, i.e. Juvenile Officer of the District Attorney’s Office, in writing, of the infraction and impending hearing. 4. Any student determined by the Committee to have committed the infraction of which accused shall be disciplined in accordance with State Law LA R.S. 17:416 and Board Policy.

a. Any case involving a student in Kindergarten through Grade 5, found guilty of knowledge of and intentional distribution of or possession with intent to distribute any illegal narcotic, drug, or other controlled substance on school property, on a school bus, or at a school sponsored event away from school property, shall be referred to the Iberia Parish School Board through a recommendation for action from the superintendent. b. Any case involving a student having the knowledge of and intentional distribution of or possession with intent to distribute any illegal narcotic, drug, or other controlled substance: (1) If under 16 years of age, and for grades 6 through high school, the student shall be expelled for two (2) complete semesters. (2) If 16 years of age or more, the student shall be expelled from Iberia Parish Schools for four (4) complete semesters. (3) All students who commit these

infractions must be assessed by an approved agency and along with at least one parent, become involved in a drug education program approved by the Iberia Parish School Board before the student will be allowed readmittance.

IV. POSSESSION / CONSUMPTION OF ILLEGAL/CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES Elementary students (Grades K-6) who are found to be in possession of or possession with intent to distribute any scheduled or controlled narcotic or drug at school or any school sponsored activity shall be suspended for a minimum of five school days pending a hearing before the Administrative Drug/Alcohol Committee who will review the case and determine the conditions under which reinstatement will be allowed. The student’s parents and the appropriate law enforcement agency will be notified. NOTE: In accordance with LA R.S. 17:416, students in grades six through twelve who are under sixteen (16) years of age and who are found to be in possession of any scheduled or controlled narcotic or drug at school or any school sponsored activity, shall be expelled from school for a minimum period of two (2) complete semesters. Any students in grades six through twelve who are sixteen years of age or older and who are found to be in possession of any scheduled or controlled narcotic or drug at school or any school sponsored activity shall be expelled from school for a minimum period of four (4) complete semesters. All students who commit these infractions must be assessed by an approved agency and, along with at least one parent, become involved in a drug education program approved by the Iberia Parish School Board before the student will be allowed readmittance. V. POSSESSION / CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL: UNAUTHORIZED PRESCRIPTION OR NON-PRESCRIPTION DRUGS: BOGUS DRUGS Policy JCDAB, JD, JDD, JDE, JGCD Any student who is found to be in possession of or under the influence of alcohol, unauthorized prescription or non-prescription drugs, or possessing bogus, “look-alike” drugs will be suspended from school for a minimum of five days pending a hearing before the Administrative Drug/Alcohol Committee. The student’s parents and appropriate law enforcement agency will be notified.

The student will be required to enroll in a substance abuse education program approved by the Hearing Committee and the student will be expelled from school if he fails to complete the program. The student may be required to report to the Adjustment Center upon his return to school for a period of time which will be determined by the Hearing Committee. The student will be ineligible for participation in any extra-curricular activities sponsored by the school for the remainder of the year. The student will be placed on disciplinary probation for the remainder of the school year; therefore, another suspendable infraction could be cause for expulsion from school. However, a second offense involving possession for as long as that student is enrolled in the public schools of Iberia Parish shall result in the student being expelled for the remainder of the school year.
