Main: [email protected] Studies offers a variety of programs and courses primarily designed to meet the needs of the communities UFV serves, focusing on career-related training and upgrading. The majority of courses are offered on a part-time basis, thus allowing students to continue to work. However, our certificate programs are mostly offered on a full-time basis. The UFV calendar outlines programs that students can take for credit. Find out about continuing studies courses in our CS booklet, published twice a year.

Convocation ceremonies occur in June every year. Ceremonies are held at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre. Career counselling and life planningWhile studying at UFV, you may be trying to plan the next steps in your life and career. Counsellors at UFV are trained to help you clarify your skills, values and interests and to assist you in deciding upon a career direction. Standardized career assessments are also available.

Study skills/academic counsellingStudents attending UFV often need to improve their study habits. Study Smart workshops are offered each semester and one-on-one sessions with the UFV counsellors are also available throughout the year.

The centre is located in A245 (ESL Computer Lab) in Abbotsford and is open every afternoon between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm. UFV ESL instructors and TESL program students can assist you with conversation practice, vocabulary acquisition, assignment clarification, writing practice, grammar, sentence structuring, reading comprehension, pronunciation exercises, and anything else you may need. Warning:Many programs have academic requirements, such as a minimum GPA, for continuance in the program. In addition, the Continuance Policy (92) at ufv.ca/secretariat/policies, sets a minimum semester GPA requirement for continuance at UFV. This policy is currently under review.

We will teach you how to find this information yourself. We will also teach you to use Google and other internet resources skillfully, to help you learn how to evaluate the information you find there to see if it meets your academic needs. It has been proven: if you learn to use the Library early in your studies, you’ll get better grades and your life will be much easier. Your UFV student card is your library card, and is used to borrow materials from the UFV library.

You can drop in to get help with math and stats problems. Math Centre assistants, Math and Stats faculty, and student assistants can help you with your math and stats problems. They can work with you personally to provide you with the extra insight needed to really understand. No appointment is necessary, just drop in! Pay parking is in effect at all UFV parking lots and on some neighbouring streets. You can either “pay by space” each time you park on one of the campuses (ticket dispensers are located at various spots on each campus) or you can purchase a weekly, monthly or semester e-pass online.

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)ufv.ca/plar

Credit award is based on demonstration of skills and knowledge that are equivalent to UFV course or program learning outcomes. ADMISSION TO PROGRAMS

New applicants can apply online at ufv.ca/apply .

Continuing students who wish to apply to a different program can do so through their myUFV accounts.

You will receive information about the status of your application to your UFV email account. Check your UFV email regularly for announcement and application updates.

FEES

Fees and other costs, and how to make your payment, can be found at ufv.ca/admissions/feeandpaySee ufv.ca/admissions/registration/imprtregdates for important dates and deadlines.

The $200 registration deposit must be paid prior to registering for courses. The balance of fees is due approximately the second week of the semester. Failure to pay the balance in full by the fee deadline will result in penalties.

Do not wait until the fee payment deadline to pay fees, to ensure they are processed in time.

TRANSCRIPTS

To order an official UFV transcript, go to ufv.ca/admissions/forms and select Transcript Request.

TRANSFER CREDIT

If you have not had transfer credit evaluated and have submitted an official transcript, contact our credential evaluation staff at 604-854-4501 or toll-free (in Canada) 1-888-823-8734.An official post-secondary transcript must be sent directly to UFV from your institution in the original sealed envelope with the school’s name and address imprinted, and must include an official institution seal or authorizing signature.

UUP also offers a Training in Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge for the Workplace (TASK) program for students with disabilities.

Volunteer placements are available with more than 50 organizations, including community groups, sports organizations, charities, extended care and hospital centres, museums and national sites, entertainment venues, and more.

Centre instructors can assist you at various stages of the writing process with narrowing topics, identifying research strategies, developing ideas, organizing material, drafting, and revising. They can also assist you in understanding various writing assignments, such as research essays and reports, annotated bibliographies, literature reviews, lab reports, critical reviews, resumes, and application and cover letters. Centre instructors do not edit or proofread your written work; rather, they offer expert advice that you can apply to your writing.
