Student Guide to Resetting Password & Changing Personal Questions Information Technology Services June 2012 Miami-Dade County Public Schools 1 Introduction To assist with individual password management, Information Technology Services (ITS) utilizes Hitachi ID Password Manager, a web-based system. Students will be able to reset their password 24/7 by accessing the website at: https://studentsreset.dadeschools.net. Accessing the Self-Service Login Page Once the personal questions have been created, students can reset their own password. [See Student Guide to Creating Your Personal Questions.] Under the Student Toolbox column, Click Reset Password The Self-service login page will display. Before you begin, you will need your 7 digit student ID number to login. (ie: 1234567) ***VERY IMPORTANT*** Only use Back and Home buttons within the application. Use of Internet browser buttons will result in error. If this happens, go back to the website and begin again. Type your 7 digit student ID number Click Log in The Select an authentication method page will display. The student’s identity must be verified before creating a new password by either using a current password or answering pre-populated personal challenge ques- tions. If verification is processed by answering personal questions, on the Select an authentication method page, Click Answer personal questions The Challenge-response page will display. One of your questions will display on the page. Type the answer to the question displayed The Main menu page will display. You may access the Self-service login page by entering the following url on your web browser: https://studentsreset.dadeschools.net It can also be accessed from the dadeschools.net Students page, under the Student Toolbox column. Note: After three unsuccessful attempts to correctly answer the profile questions, the student will be locked out of the system. For assistance, contact your school.

Introduction

To assist with individual password management, Information Technology Services (ITS) utilizes Hitachi ID Password Manager, a web-based system. Students will be able to reset their password 24/7 by accessing the website at: https://studentsreset.dadeschools.net.

Accessing the Self-Service Login Page

Once the personal questions have been created, students can reset their own password. [See Student Guide to Creating Your Personal Questions.]

Under the Student Toolbox column,

▼ Click Reset Password

The Self-service login page will display. Before you begin, you will need your 7 digit student ID number to login. (ie: 1234567)

***VERY IMPORTANT***Only use Back and Home buttons within the application. Use of Internet browser buttons will result in error. If this happens, go back to the website and begin again.

▼ Type your 7 digit student ID number▼ Click Log in

The Select an authentication method page will display.

The student’s identity must be verified before creating a new password by either using a current password or answering pre-populated personal challenge ques-tions.

If verification is processed by answering personal questions, on the Select an authentication method page,

▼ Click Answer personal questions

The Challenge-response page will display.

One of your questions will display on the page.

▼ Type the answer to the question displayed

The Change passwords page will display.

See the Password Requirements on the page or the next section of this document.

▼ Type the new password▼ Confirm the new password▼ Click Change passwords

The Change passwords: Results page will display. Verify the confirmation message.

▼ Click Close this window to exit

If the student was logged in, log out now. Students must log in with the new password to ensure that the computer does not try to access anything on the network using the old password.

Password Requirements

Students must follow these guidelines when creating a password. Your password must:

• have 8 character(s). • have at least 1 digit. • not be your profile (user) ID or name. • not be your profile (user) ID or name reversed. • not contain your profile (user) ID or name. • not be your profile (user) ID or name with the letters rearranged. • not have more than 2 pairs of repeating characters. • contain characters that can be typed on a standard English (US) keyboard.

Changing Your Personal Questions

Students have the option of changing their personal questions and answers by accessing the Self-service login page.

Open your Internet browser and type the following url https://studentsreset.dadeschools.net

The Self-service login page will display.

▼ Type your 7 digit student ID number▼ Click Login

The Select an authentication method page will display.

▼ Click Use a password (or Answer personal questions) [Use a password was used in this sample]

The Main menu page indicates the most recent password activity. It allows students to choose a new password or to answer or change personal questions.

▼ Click Answer personal questions

The Answer personal questions page will display. The message “You have defined enough questions.” will display on the page.

The Main menu page indicates the most recent password activity. It allows students to choose a new password or to answer or change personal questions.

The Verify password page will display.

▼ Type your password ▼ Click Continue

The Main menu page will display.

▼ Clear the answer to a pre-defined question to remove it

▼ Clear the question or answer of a user-defined question to remove it.

After all the required questions have been answered,

▼ Click Submit

The confirmation message will be displayed showing the changes that were made.

To return to the Main menu page,

▼ Click Home

To exit the Self-service application,

▼ Click Log out
