MorningCeremonyInstructions

• Students will be seated in the Fred McCall Practice gym in order of entrance into the Convocation Center. 

• Students will be given a blue card that has their name and honors (if applicable). Please hold on to that blue card. Do not fold, wad up or in otherwise destroy the card as you will need to hand that card to the announcer at the podium. 

• Students will be the first to enter the ceremony and the last to leave.• Students will leave the practice gym in the following order:

• All odd rows will leave out to left• All even rows will leave out to the right

• Students will enter the convocation center on the corresponding row they were seated in the practice gym. 

• How to approach the stage is on a further slide• Once the ceremony is over students will leave in the following order:

• All odd rows will go out the left• All even rows will go out the right

All students will sit together during the ceremony. You be place in order by degree grouping starting with Associates degrees, then Bachelor degrees, then Masters degrees. These seats are usually placed 25‐30 to a row. If you have only 10 students in one degree, the next degree will start right  next to them.

Once the announcer has called for first degree group whichincludes the Associates degrees, the candidates to step forward,the students will stand for that degree group and the StudentMarshal will lead the row to the stage. The remaining studentswill move down to the end of the row and sit.

Once the students receive their diploma they will fill in the chairs to your right. They will stand until everyone in their degree group receives their diploma. There will be a short time for applause and then you will sit down. The Provost will then call for the next degree group. Everyone in that degree group will rise and head to the stage to receive their diploma. At this time the previous degree group move to the left and return to the seat they started in at the beginning of the ceremony  and be seated.

Tassels—Whichside?

Bachelor’s Students

• If you are a Bachelor’s student, wear the tassel on the right.  Once you receive your degree (as a group) you will be instructed to turn your tassel to the left.

Master’s Candidates

• Master’s & Doctoral candidates march in the processional with your tassel on the left.  This signifies your previous degree.

HowdoIenterthestagetoreceivemydiploma?

• As you enter the stage, hand your phonetic card to the faculty member at the podium. They will call your name.

• Walk in front of the podium when your name is called and walk towards the President and the Dean.

• The President or your Dean will hand you your diploma.  Shake hands with your right hand and extend the left hand to receive your diploma.  You will have your picture taken, turn slightly to face the audience. 

• Exit the stage.

HoodingQuestionsforMastersstudents

• Make sure you enter with the hood unbuttoned and on your right arm.  Your highest degree is on top.

• As you enter on stage give your phonetic card to the person at the podium.  

• As your name is called step forward and stop before the hooding platform.

• Bend knees slightly if necessary while facing audience, faculty marshals will place your hood over your head.

• Walk to the dean.  You will then receive your diploma and have your picture taken.

• Shake hand with your right hand, extend the left hand to receive your diploma.

• Exit stage

Tipsfortheday

SATURDAY AM TICKETS – Please make sure you have your tickets. We will not have extra tickets on hand the morning of graduation. 6 Tickets will be available per candidate. Pick up will be April 28‐May 11 in the Registrar’s Office. You will need a photo ID. If you are unable to pick up your tickets yourself, you may have someone pick them up for you with a written note of permission. Once the tickets are picked up, it is the students responsibility to make sure they have their tickets the morning of graduation. 

DUAL DEGREES – Dual degree students will only cross the stage once. Your degrees will be listed in the program. • Students receiving more than one degree on same level will walk with the primary degree or 

highest level awarded. Examples include: • Students receiving Associates & Bachelors: you will walk with Bachelors• Students graduating with 2 Bachelors: you will walk with your primary degree

• Students receiving more than one degree on different levels will walk with the highest degree awarded. Examples:

• BBA and MBA students will walk with their MBA

SPECIAL ACCOMODATIONS – If you or your family member requires special accommodations (hearing/visually impaired or service animal required, etc) Please contact Ms. Melissa McLamb as soon as possible. Both the Convocation Center and Turner Auditorium are handicap accessible. Handicap seating for the morning will be located all along the concourse of the Convocation Center. For the Afternoon it will be located along the floor of Turner Auditorium.

DRESS – Dress for the ceremony is business casual, as you will have a robe on, please dress appropriately for the weather• Ladies: Dress pants, skirt or a dress are acceptable. Please be mindful with shoes as you will be on your feet 

most of the morning.• Gentlemen: Suit pants or kakis with a collar shirt, tie and dress shoes are appropriate. 

PERSONAL BELONGINGS – While we will have people present in the room during the ceremony, please for your safety and ours, leave all personal belongings with family members. Campbell University is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal belongings left in the room at the student’s risk. 

CAP DECORATIONS – We encourage students to express themselves. You may decorate your cap but please keep all decorations flush to the cap and not sticking up from the cap. Any caps deemed inappropriate will be removed and held until after the ceremony and a new cap will be issued. 

GRADUATION UNIFORM – The Campbell University Cabinet approved uniform for graduation is as follows: Campbell University issued cap, gown, tassel, hood (if applicable) and academic honor cord (if applicable –issued by the Registrar’s Office). 

DIPLOMAS – Diplomas will be available following the ceremony in the Practice Gym. Please go straight to the gym to receive your diploma following each ceremony. This is especially important for the morning ceremony as we have a second ceremony to prepare for at 1pm.
