BFF GOALS Who is Student Engagement? What does Student Engagement do? What is the role of Resident Assistants in terms of Student Engagement? How can we work together? Where can we do better?

Page 3: Student Engagement and Residence Life (We're BFFs)

QUICK QUESTION Did you attend a Student Engagement event this year?

Did you attend one? Did you attend two? Did you attend three? More?

How many of you encouraged or physically brought residents to the program?

If so, what programs?

Page 4: Student Engagement and Residence Life (We're BFFs)

WHY NOT MORE? Break into groups of 3 (self select your group mates) In your groups identify 2-3 (or more) specific reasons why you as Resident

Assistants find yourself unable to attend programs and activities? “We are too busy” is not specific enough.

Secondarily, identify 2-3 (or more) specific reasons why you believe students find themselves unable to attend programs and activities. “They are too busy” is not specific enough.

IMAGINE… For the next 20 minutes you are Student Engagement Assistants. And you have a new staff! It’s January 8th and you need to plan a semesters worth of activities. Each

group will be assigned one month or one special topic (3-5 activities). Date, location, and time of event Marketing (Don’t create a flyer, but how will you publicize, when will you do it,

etc. ) Budgets (You create your own) Who is this event for? Why this event? Any potential collaborators?

SNAFU #1 The President has heard student’s concerns about there being too much

paper publicity on campus. All paper publicity must now be placed on bulletin boards ONLY. However, the bulletin boards are strategically placed in dimly lit hallways.

SNAFU #2 One of your group members forget to book the space for your program. You

have to select a new location.
