The

Design Process

Gather information on the brief:

• Style• Outcomes• Target audience• Constraints / problems• Deadlines – create a plan / timeline

2.Research

Start to gather ideas:

• Use information sources• Use investigation strategies• Record research activities• Analyse research activities

3.Ideation/Sketch

Implement creative thinking techniques:

• Develop design concepts • Sketch out ideas - visually record• Experiment with ideas • Evaluate initial design concepts

4.Critique and

Feedback

Evaluate initial design concepts:

• Record all information • Consider all information given • Identify one or two designs to further develop and refine into a final design

5.Present to

Client

• Consult with the client to ensure you’re on the right track with your initial design idea• Meet with the client and obtain feedback• Be prepared to verbally justify your design decisions (alongside the brief )• Revise brief as required

6.Revise/ Present

• Revise your ideas from client feedback and then start design work on the computer• Evaluate your work• Print and seek feedback – record all feedback• Revise / refine

7.Present Final

Design

• Present design and work towards client approving it to be produced commercially. • Final design solution represents the finished product • Request client to date and sign as their approval

8.Deliver and

Launch

• Ensure file formats are appropriate for client use• Ensure file formats are correct for ‘end use’ (print / web)• Ensure naming conventions of files and folders are appropriate• Deliver files as requested

9.Reflection

• Review the success of the design by looking back on the client feedback and compare the final design to the requirements of the broject brief to measure it’s success.

Clarify the

Project Brief

Understand what it is the client wants: gather information including specifications such as style; outcomes; target audience; problems; deadlines; and key features.

Clarify the brief

Use sources such as the internet to look at what other designers are doing in this field, and how they are using different ways to communicate the message.

2. Research 8. Launch

After appproval of the final design, print or export (as required by client) and present so the client can use the design.

4. PresentPresenting your

sketches to the client gives them an idea of

where you’re headed and gives them a chance to decide if they are happy with the progress and if the want to make some changes to the brief.

DESIGN ProcessTHE

Ideation

By using a creative

thinking technique (mind mapping; day dreaming; laterall thinking; write a checklist etc.), come up with ideas and sketches of what the final design could look like. Be sure to: develop design concepts; visually record all ideas; and exeriment with ideas.

ReviseGo over and consider

feedback and begin work on the computer design. Print out a ‘proof’ of your progress and gain additional feedback from other people throughout the creation of the design.

7. Present

Present the final design to the client and gather any final critiques. Make any final changes.

Reflect

Take time now to reflect on the process of this project, asking youself what went well, what could be improved for next time and think about what you have learnt through this process, which will help you during the next project.

5. CritiqueObtain feedback

on the initial designs. The client

will be able to tell you what they like and what they think needs change. Receive feedback with an open mind. Be sure to record all notes and consider all feedback. decide on one or two sketches and develop these to work towards a final design.

2019 has been an exciting year for Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Teachers and students. Guest speakers sharing their knowledge and expertise as well as their life journeys are always welcome in our classes. Learning about the World of Work, ourselves and further developing our employability skills are the major emphases of Career and Enterprise, with the collaboration of community agencies.

Geography students have explored the world of natural disasters and globalisation along with global climate change and sustainable places, where they have had guest speakers from community organisations and the Year 12 students have undertaken field work in examining Bunbury as a regional urban centre.

History students have examined the world in the 20th century comparing the ideologies of capitalism, fascism and communism through role playing, debates, discussions and investigations.

Politics and Law students have had numerous guest speakers from our political representatives within the State and the Year 11’s will be participating in the upcoming British Parliamentary Debating Competition.

Economics students have had an early morning start to attended the Student Economic Forum, along with guest speakers from the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Psychology students have investigated and applied major psychological models and theories such as memory, attitudes, personality and group behaviour in a contemporary way.

Students are now reflecting and interpreting human behaviour in the everyday world inclusive of prejudice and the influence of culture. Psychology is very useful, both to individuals to assist ourselves, our community and to society as a whole.

2019 was an exciting year in Science with the classes

taking part in a range of learning activities.

The Year 12 Integrated Science class have been involved

in monitoring blue swimmer crabs in Koombana Bay. The

students monitor the population of crabs and check for the

presence of a shell disease. They have also made beeswax

wraps and reconstructed skulls.

The Human Biology classes have investigated the structure of

DNA by making strands out of lollies, and dissected brains,

kidneys and chicken wings.

The Chemistry students had a visit from Murdoch University

and Rio Tinto where they learned how to extract copper

from ore, turn the copper into foil and also view a thermite

reaction.

The Year 11 Biology students visited Perth Zoo to learn about

classification and the zoo’s breeding program, whilst the Year

12 Biology students went to Wellington Discovery Forest to

monitor the marsupials through the Western Shield.

MEDIA & CERT III DESIGN

This year in Media, students have been working on a range of exciting and dynamic projects. Year 11 General students started off the year producing short films with storylines to suit the theme, Everyday Superhero. They then were tasked with unleashing their creative side by producing an opening sequence for a film or television show. Semester 2 saw students produce their own documentary and radio podcast.

Year 11 ATAR students began by looking at popular culture and producing music videos. They then went on to conduct an investigation into a topic of their choice in order to create an informative documentary. The year 12 general class began the year by looking at

The two-year Certificate III in Design Fundamentals course is based on training budding graphic designers - designers who work with clients to produce art with a commercial purpose.

Students have had many clients and plenty of their work commercially produced this year. The Year 11 students worked with Michele to highlight the plight of the environment and had the College’s first calico bags printed. They moved onto revamping the Café to give your favourite lunch time hangout a fresh look

local and international film, studying Australian film Tomorrow When the War Began and then going on to create their own short films along with a media product to promote their film. In semester 2, these students also conducted their own investigation into a topic of their choice to produce a short documentary. Year 12 Media ATAR students have had a busy year. They have studied various film styles and movements, which they used to inform their own Art film productions. In semester 2, students studied propaganda and persuasion. They then produced a persuasive media product

on a topic of their choice. During CinefestOz this year, Manea Media students had a number opportunities to get involved in the festivities. Year 12 Media ATAR student Dylan McIntyre was named a finalist in their student film competition- Cinesnaps. He presented his film well on the evening, earning positive feedback from judges. All media students also attended a talk by Australian actors Alex Williams and Travis Jeffrey. In this talk students were given an insight into the Australian Film and Television Industry, hearing interesting stories and receiving valuable information on how to get a start in this industry.

and then combined their design skills to bring you this awesome Yearbook. The Year 12 group drew on all their client interaction skills from last year and started 2019 working with Rod to create stunning presentation folders and the College’s 10 year anniversary boxes. They then teamed up with visual art students to create unique logos for the student’s artwork which were displayed at the Arts Showcase event - the combination of art

and design coming together was a great feast for the eyes! With their qualification in sight the Year 12 group set about designing their own portfolio websites to showcase their creative work and take it into their future life beyond MSC. Natalie wishes her Year 12 graduating class all the best in their future creative ventures. – Finished Not Perfect!
