PARENT/COACHRELATIONSHIPS
Bothparentingandcoachingareextremelychallengingjobs.Byestablishinganunderstandingofeachposition,wearebetterabletoaccepttheactionsoftheotherforthebenefitofthestudent-athlete.Asparents,whenyourchildrenbecomeinvolvedinourprogram,youhavetherighttounderstandtheexpectationsthatareplacedonyourchild.Thisbeginswithclearcommunicationfromyourstudent-athlete’scoach.

Wearecommittedtothedevelopmentofallstudentathletesasthinkers,communicators,andcontributors,whichwillbeaccomplishedthroughinstructionalpracticesandcurriculummarkedbyrigor,relevance,andrelationships.Ourstudent/athleteswillbesupportedastheyengageinthehighschoolexperience,graduate,andbecomeresponsiblemembersofsociety.
TheRowlandHighSchoolathleticprogramsareacontinuationoftheclassroom.Withthepurposetoeducate.Theprivilegeofathleticparticipationisearnedthroughthemaintenanceofproperstandardsofattitude,attendance,andachievement.
Throughparticipationinathleticcenteredinterscholasticactivities,RowlandHighSchoolstudentswilldevelopvalues,attitudes,andskillsforpersonalgrowthandforthebenefitofadiversesociety.RowlandHighSchooliscommittedto“PursuingVictoryWithHonor”,aCIFsponsoredprograminwhichourcoachingstaffmakesacommitmenttodevelopingstudent-athletesofcharacter.

ATHLETICELIGIBILITY
Whethercomingoutforasportforthefirsttimeorcomingoutforasportfromanothersport,eachathletemustmeetthefollowingrequirementsbeforehe/shemayparticipateinapracticeoragame.
• Youmustpassaphysicalexamination(goodfromJune1toMay30eachyear)
• Your parent/guardian must complete the online clearance process atwww.athleticclearance.comandE-SignaCIFCodeofEthics,ConcussionInformationSheet,SuddenCardiacArrestInformationSheetandStatementofConsent.
• Youmustprovideproofofhealthinsuranceoryoumaypurchaselow-costprivateinsurance(availableinathleticoffice)
• Youmustbeacademicallyeligible(SeeAcademicEligibility)
• Youmusthaveresidentialeligibility(SeeResidentialEligibility)
• ForeignExchangeStudentsMustRegisterwiththeAthleticDirectorandpetitiontheCIFSouthernSection
• YouandaParent/GuardianmustattendtheMANDATORYparentmeetingforFall,Winter,andSpringsportsforeachseasonofsport.
• Youandyourparent/guardianmustsigntheacknowledgementthatyouhavereadandunderstandtheStudent-Athlete&ParentHandbook.
TRY-OUTS
Student-Athleteswillhaveaminimum3-DayTry-outperiodstartingfromthefirstdaytry-outsareheldasdeterminedbytheCIFSeasonofSportCalendar.Ifastudentmissesthetry-outperiod,he/she
willmisstheopportunitytotry-out.
Theexceptionstothisareasfollows:
• Athletescomingfromasport,whichhasnotconcluded,willhavethreepracticedaysfromthedayofthelastgametotry-out.
• Athletesmaypre-arrangewithacoachtoextendthetry-outperiod.Thismustoccurinadvanceandissolelyatthediscretionofthecoach.

ACADEMICELIGIBILITY
RowlandUnifiedSchoolDistrict’spolicyisthatastudentmustbescholasticallyeligibletocompeteinanyathleticcontestduringthatseasonofsport.Ifastudentisnotacademicallyeligible,he/sheisnotathleticallyeligible.
Ifastudent-athletebecomesacademicallyeligiblemid-season,thatstudentbecomesathleticallyeligibleimmediately.RowlandUnifiedSchoolDistrictPolicyallowsthevarsityheadcoachofeachrespectivesporttodeterminewhethernotto:
• Allowastudent-athletetopracticewithateamwhileattemptingtogainacademiceligibility.
• Allowastudenttojoinateammid-seasonafterbecomingacademicallyeligible.Inordertobeacademicallyeligible,astudent-athletemustmeetthefollowingCIFrequirements:
• Thestudentmustbeenrolledattheschoolforwhichtheywishtoparticipateinathletics.
• Thestudentmustbecurrentlyenrolledinatleast20semestercreditsofwork.
• Thestudentmustpassatleast20semestercreditsofworkatthecompletionofthepreviousgradingperiod.
• Thestudentmustbemaintainingaminimumprogresstowardmeetingthehighschoolgraduationrequirementsasprescribedbythegoverningboard.
• Thestudenthasmaintainedduringthepreviousgradingperiodaminimumofa2.0GPAona4.0scaleinallenrolledcourses.
• Thestudentmustmaintaina2.0GPAandpassaminimumoffourclasses.

BASICCIFELIGIBILITYRULES
Academiceligibilityforparticipationinextra/co-curricularactivitiesshallbedeterminedattheendofeach6-weekgradingperiod.Athletesthataredeemedineligibleshallnotcompetefortheirrespectiveteam
PENALTY:IFANATHLETEPARTICPATES(PLAYSORSUITSUP)INAGAMEWHILEBEINGINELIGIBLE,THESCHOOLMUSTFORFEITTHEGAME.
Secondsemestergradeswilldetermineeligibilityforthefirstquarterofthenextschoolyear.SummerSchoolmake-upisacceptableforfirstquartereligibility.(Ifsummerschoolclassesarerepeatsofclassestakenduringthesecondsemesteroftheregularschoolyear,thehighergradeisusedtocalculatethegradepointaverage.Ifsummerschoolclassesarenotrepeatsofclassestakenduringthesecondsemesteroftheregularschoolyear,thegradeisaveragedwithgradesreceivedduringtheregularschoolyear.
SEMESTERSOFATTENDANCE(CIFBylaw)
Astudentwhofirstenterstheninthgradeofanyschoolfollowingthestudent’scompletionoftheeighthgradeinanyschoolmaybeeligibleforathleticcompetitionduringamaximumperiodoftimethatisnottoexceedeightconsecutivesemestersfollowingtheinitialenrollmentintheninthgradeofanyschool,andsaideligibilitymustbeusedduringthestudent’sfirsteightconsecutivesemestersofenrollmentatthatschooloranyotherschool.
INDEPENDENTSTUDY/HOMESCHOOL(CIFBylaw)
Studentswhoarenotenrolledinprogramsunderthejurisdictionofamemberschool’sgoverningbodyarenoteligibletoparticipateinCIFcompetition.Suchprogramswouldinclude,butarenotlimitedto,homeschoolingorhomestudywhereinparentsorotherpersonsareresponsibleforinstructionandevaluation.
AstudentenrolledinanIndependentStudyProgramisresidentiallyeligibleattheschoolinwhoseattendanceareahe/sheresides,orwherethestudentmostrecentlyestablishedhis/herresidentialeligibility.Theremaybeadditionalconditionsthatmustbenecessarytomeetpriortoeligibilitybeinggranted.CheckwiththeAthleticDepartment.
IndependentStudystudentsshallprovidedocumentationprovingtheirencourses.

BASICCIFELIGIBILITYRULESPENALTYFORPROVISIONOFFALSEORFRADULENTINFORMATION(CIFBylaw)
Ifitisdiscoveredthatpersonsassociatedwiththestudentortheschool(coach,teachers,parents,friends,etc.)providedfalseinformationinordertofraudulentlygainfavorableeligibilitystatusforastudent,thatstudentissubjecttoimmediateineligibilityforcompetitionatanysectionmemberschoolatanylevelinanysportforaperiodupto12calendarmonthsfromthedeterminationthatfalseinformationwasprovidedwhetherthestudentwasawareofthefraudulentinformationornot.
Further,anycontestsinwhichastudentorstudentsparticipatedbasedonfraudulentpracticesregardingeligibilitystatusshallbeforfeitedaccordingtoguidelinessetinaccordtotherulesoftheCIF.STUDENTPARTICIPATION-CONDUCTPENALTY
Studentparticipationinathleticcontestsisaprivilege.Asastudent-athleteoneisexpectedtoconductoneselfinanexemplarymanneratalltimes.DuringparticipationinallCIFcompetition,astudentwhoisejectedordisqualifiedfromparticipatingintheremainderofsaidcontestwillbeineligiblefortheteam’snextcontest.
Inaddition,anystudent-athletewhophysicallyassaultsagameoreventofficialshallbebannedfrominterscholasticathleticsfortheremainder

TRANSFERELIGIBILITY(CIFBylaw)
AstudentmayhavetransfereligibilityprovidedthestudentiscompelledtomovefromanyschooltoaCIFschooldueto:
• Avalidchangeofresidencefromoneschoolattendanceareatotheattendanceareaofthenewschoolbytheparent(s)orlegalguardian(s)withwhomthestudentwaslivingwhenthestudentestablishedresidentialeligibilityatthepriorschool,OR
• ArulingbytheBoardofEducationofaschooldistrict,whichhastwoormorehighschools,providedthechangeofschoolsisnottheresultofdisciplinaryaction.
Note:CIFTransferformsmustbefiledonalltransferstudents.SeetheAthleticDirectorfortheproperforms.Avoidingthisprocessmayaffectyourathleticeligibilityaswellastheschool’sstandingwithintheCIF
CHANGINGSCHOOLSBYINTRA/INTER-DISTRICTTRANSFERS/OPENENROLLMENT
Anystudenttransferringundertheprovisionsofopenenrollmentboardpolicy,publicorprivate,willhaveimmediateresidentialeligibilityupontransferfromschoolAtoschoolB,subjecttothefollowinglimitations:
• Onlyonetransferisallowedduringthestudent’shighschoolcareerafterinitialenrollmentasaninthgraderinafour-yearhighschoolorathreeyearhighschool
• Thetransfermustbecompletedduringthefirst15daysofthenewacademicschoolyearatschoolB
• Thetransfermustnotbearesultofdisciplinaryaction
• ThereceivingschoolBmustcertifythatnoconsiderationwasgiventotheathleticperformanceofthestudentacceptingthetransfer
• Theprocessfortheselectionofstudents,whenthenumberofapplicantsexceedsthenumberthatcanbeaccommodatedshallberandomandunbiased.
• Note:CIFTransferformsmustbefiledonalltransfersnomatterwhattheircircumstancesmightbe.SeetheAthleticDirectorfortheproperforms.Avoidingthisprocessmayaffectyourathleticeligibilityaswellas

CHANGINGSCHOOLS-SOP(SitOutPeriod)
• Anincoming10thgraderwillhaveanoptionofcompetingimmediatelyatthefrosh-sophlevelwithoutanySOP.Astudentchoosingthisoptionwillnotbeeligibletocompeteatthevarsitylevel,includingpost-seasoncompetition,inthatsportfortheremainderoftheschoolyear.
• AtransferstudentwhocompetedinmorethanonesportthepreviousyearwillhavemorethanoneSOP.
• Astudenttransferringasecondtimewillonlybeapprovedforahard-shipiftheyqualifyunderoneofthehardshipexceptions.TheSOPwillnotbeanoptionforastudenttransferringforasecondtime.

UNDUEINFLUENCE-RECRUITMENTOFATHLETES(CIFBylaw)
Theuseofundueinfluencebyanypersonorpersonstosecureorretainastudentortosecureorretainoneorbothparents,guardiansorcaregiverofastudentasresidentsmaycausethestudenttobeineligibleforhighschoolathleticsforaperiodofoneyearandshalljeopardizethestandingofthehighschoolintheCaliforniaInterscholasticFederation.
AlwayscheckwiththeAthleticDirectororPrincipalbeforechangingschoolstodeterminewhetheritwillaffectyoureligibility.
COMPETINGUNDERANAMEOTHERTHANYOUROWNORFALSIFYINGYOURADDRESS
Anystudentwhoseaddressornamehasbeenfalsifiedinordertoachieveresidentialeligibilitywillbeineligibleinallinterscholasticathleticcompetitionforaperiodofoneyearfromthedatetheinfractionisverified.
COMPETITIONONANOUTSIDETEAM
Astudentonahighschoolteambecomesineligibleifthestudentcompetesinacontestonan“outside”teaminthesamesportduringthestudent’shighschoolseasonofsport.
Itispermissibleforahighschoolteammembertoparticipateinaspontaneousrecreationalactivityorgameinwhichsidesorteamsarechosenwithoutregardtoplayersrepresentinganygroupororganization.Suchparticipationwouldnotcauselossofeligibility.

EXPECTATIONSOFSTUDENT-ATHLETES
AlongwiththeprivilegeofcompetingforandrepresentingRowlandHighSchoolontheathleticfieldcomesresponsibilitiesandexpectations.Athletesareheldtoahigherstandardbecauseoftheirhighvisibility.Namesandpicturesappearinlocalnewspapers.Peers,teachers,andcommunitymembersknowhighschoolathletesandwhomtheyrepresent.IfRowlandHighSchool’sathleticprogramexpectstocontinuetoreceivebroadsupportandrespect,wemustworkhardtoearniteachandeveryday.Ouractionsarescrutinizednotonlyonthefieldofplay,butintheclassroom,aroundthecampus,andthroughouttheRowlandcommunity.“Bethebestyoucanbe…everyday,ineveryway,andoneveryplay!”Thiscommitmenttototaleffortiswhatastudent-athleteisallabout.Winningisnotanoutcome,itisanattitude!
PARTICIPATION
Athleticsarevoluntary.Participationisnotrequiredforgraduation,andthus,beingonasportsteamisnotarightbutaprivilegethatisearned.WiththatprivilegecomeresponsibilitiestomaintaintheestablishedstandardsofconductasdefinedintheCIFCodeofEthicsandRowlandBoardPolicy,bothonandoffthefield.
ATHLETICSASASEGMENTOFTHEEDUCATIONALPROGRAM
Athleticsarejustoneofthemanypartsofaneducationalprogramthatisprovidedtostudents.Themainreasonthatstudentsareinschoolistolearnand,therefore,academicsalwayscomesfirst.Maintainingacademiceligibilityisthestudent’sresponsibility,notthatofcoaches,teachers,orparents.Eligibilitycanalsobelostduetopoorattendanceorcitizenship.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Positivesportsmanshipisanexpectationofourathleticprogram.Teamsareexpectedtoplay“harder”thanouropponents,butalsoareexpectedtoplaywithintherulesofthesportandtheboundariesofcleanandfairplay.
TEAMSELECTION
Manyteamsportsmustlimitthesizeoftheirsquadtoprovidetimeforproperinstruction,safetyconcerns,andsupervision.“Cutting”perspectiveathletesisalwaysaverydifficulttaskthatcoachesmustacceptasanecessitytobenefitthesportandthegrowthoftheteamasawhole.
Therewillbemanystudent-athleteswhowillacceptthechallengetoworkhardtodevelopphysicalandmentalskillstomaketheteam.Inmanycases,theseyoungmenandwomenwillmakeapositiveimpactonothers.Bestadvice...persevere.

EXPECTATIONSOFSTUDENTS-ATHLETES
Ifastudent-athlete“triesout”forateamandisnotselected,he/sheisinvitedtoparticipateinasportduringthatsameseasonthatdoesnotlimitthenumberofparticipants(e.g.,football,crosscountry,wrestling,swimmingortrack)
BEINGAPARTOFTHETEAM
Student-athleteslearnmanyskillstoplaytheirchosensport,butthemostimportantskilltobeacquiredisteamwork.Tobesuccessful,everymemberofateammustworktogethertomakethewholegreaterthanthesumofitsparts.Sacrifice,loyalty,commongoals,workingwithothers,andsharingresponsibilityareallimportantcomponentsofteamwork.Whileallofthesecomponentsareworthwhiletoparticipantsinactivities,theyareevenmoreimportantforfuturepersonalandcareerhappiness.
COMINGREADYTOPLAY
Student-athletesshouldcomereadytopracticeontime,befocusedandreadytolearn.Inaddition,theyshouldbepreparedbothphysicallyandmentallyfortheseasonbytraininginthepreseason.
RESPECT
Attheverycoreofcitizenshipisrespect—-respectforoneselfandothers.Thestudent-athlete is to demonstrate respect for coaches, teachers, officials, spectators, schoolfacilities,equipment,andopponentsatalltime.
DEDICATION
Astudent-athletemustbewillingtodedicateoneselftosports.Theathleteshouldbeawarethatnothingworthwhileisaccomplishedwithouthardworkandasinceredesiretosucceed.Theathletemustalsorealizetheimportanceofworkintheoff-season.Thiscommitmentmaybechallenginganddifficultattimes.Remember,attitude,effort,andpersistencewillassistoneinreachinghis/herdreamsandbecomingsuccessfulinlife.
PERSPECTIVE
Perspectiveisadifficultconcepttoembrace,sincethereseemstobeanunbalancedvalueontheimportanceofwinning.Properperspectivehelpsonefromover-reactingtowinsandlosses,accomplishmentsordisappointmentsandrecognizingwhatisreallyimportantforsuccessandhappinessinlife.Balanceisthekey.

EXPECTATIONSOFSTUDENTS-ATHLETES
SUBSTANCEABUSEANDINAPPROPRIATEACTIVITY
Student-Athletesareexpectednottouse,possess,orsell,alcohol,controlledsubstances(drugs)ortobacco24hoursaday,sevendaysaweekatanytimeduringtheschoolyear.Thisappliesbothwhentheathleteisatschoolandnotatschoolandisverifiedbyaschooldistrictemployeeorlawenforcementpersonnel.Theathletemaybesubjecttotheathleticpenaltiesnotedbelow,includinga45-daysocialprobation.Athletessuspendedforfightingshallbeautomaticallyplacedona45-daysocialprobation.Failuretofollowthisexpectationwillbeconsequencesforanathlete,inadditiontotheschooldistrict’ssuspensionandexpulsionconsequencesforallstudents.
FIRSTOFFENSE
Athletemayberemovedfromtheathleticteamfortheremainderoftheseasonandmaynotparticipateinanothersportuntilthecurrentseasonends,whichincludesanypost-seasongamesortournaments.Awardsearnedmaybeforfeited.Inaddition,theathletemaybesubjecttotheschool’sdisciplinecode,whichinvolvessuspensionfromschooluptofivedaysanda45-daysocialprobation.Astudentonsocialprobationmaynotparticipateinorattendanyco-curricularevents.
Ifthefirstoffenseinvolvesdrugs,theschoolmaynotifythepolicedepartment.
IMPORTANT—-READCAREFULLY
Ifastudentisservinga45-daysocialprobationatthebeginningofanewseasonofsport,asdeterminedbytheCIFSeasonofSportCalendar,thatstudentisineligibleandmaymisstheopportunitytoplayforthatseasonofsport.
REPEATOFFENSE
Arepeatsubstanceabuseoffensemayresultintheeliminationofallsportsfortheremainderoftheschoolyearorforthenextseasonofsport,whicheverismore.Anathletemayreceiveonlyonefirstoffense.Allotheroffensescanbeconsideredrepeatoffensesduringtheathlete’sfouryearswithinRowlandUnifiedSchoolDistrict.

Ifanathleteinseasonoroutofseasonusesand/orisinpossessionofalcoholordrugsatanon-schoolrelatedevent,andthiscanbeverifiedbyadistrictemployeeorlawenforcementpersonnel,theathletewillbesubjecttotheathleticpenaltiesoutlinedonthepreviouspage,includinga45-day
PERFORMANCEENHANCINGDRUGS(PED’S)
RowlandUnifiedSchoolDistrictdoesnotapprovetheuseofPED’sofanyform.ResearchhasshownthatPED’scancauseavarietyofhealthproblems,including,butnotlimitedto,heartdisease,liverdisorder,andhighbloodpressure.PEDusehasbeentherootcauseofpre-maturedeathformanyathletes.Therearemanywaysforstudent-athletestogainweightandstrengththroughmedicallyacceptablemeans.Pleaseconsultwithyourcoach,aphysician,andyourparentsbeforestartinganyprogramdesignedtogainweightandstrengththroughtheingestionofanysupplement.
ALCOHOL’SEFFECTONATHLETICPERFORMANCE
AccordingtotheCenterforDrug-FreeCommunities,“baseduponresearchwithOlympic,professional,andamateurathletes,weknowthat”:
• Drinkingtointoxicationcannegateupto14daysoftrainingeffect
• Traininghormonesarediminishedforupto96hours,equalto4daysfollowingalcoholconsumption
• Drinkingalcoholaftercompetitionhindersrecovery.
• Residualeffectofalcoholfromeliteathletelabtestshowsanegativeeffectonheartrate,lacticacid/muscleperformance,andrespiratory/ventilationlevels.
• Muscleproteinsynthesis(repairofmusclefibers)isdiminished,predominantlyinyourfasttwitchmusclefibers

SOCIALNETWORKINGGUIDELINES
Inthepast,inappropriateuseofsocialmediabyRowlandUnifiedSchoolDistrictstudents,includingthoseparticipatinginathleticsandotherco-curricularactivities,hasresultedinsuspensionfromschool,andsuspensionfrompractices,games,andotherevents.Inanefforttofosterasafeschoolenvironment,lawfulonlineconduct,goodsportsmanship,andtodetertheneedtoenforcediscipline,LodiUnifiedrecommendsthefollowingguidelinesasbestpracticesfortheuseofsocialmediabyallstudents.
RowlandHighSchoolrespectstherightsofitsstudentstousesocialmedia.However,itisimportantforallstudentstounderstandtheneedtoexercisecareinsettingappropriateboundariesbetweentheirpersonalandpubliconlinebehaviorandtounderstandthatwhatmayseemprivateinthedigitalworldcanoftenbecomepublic,evenwithoutknowledgeorconsent.RowlandUnifiedstudentswhousesocialmediaareaskedtorememberthatanyinformationpostedreflectsontheentireLodiHighSchoolcommunity.

Photospostedviasocialmediabecomethepropertyofthesocialmediasite.Youmaydeletethephotofromyourprofile,butthephotoremainsonthesocialmediasite’sserver.InternetsearchenginessuchasGoogleorYahoomaystillfindtheimagelongafteryouhavedeleteditfromyourprofile.Inaddition,evenifyourprofileissettoprivate,afriendcanalwaysdownloadandsaveincriminatingphotosthatthirdparties,suchasauthorities,canuseagainstyouinthefuture.RowlandHighSchoolstudentsshouldavoidincriminatingphotosorstatementdepictingviolence,hazing,sexualharassment,vandalism,stalking,underagedrinking,selling,possessing,orusingcontrolledsubstances.
AvoidBullying/ThreatsofViolence
WhileRowlandHighStudentshavetherighttofreespeech,thatrightisNOTunlimited.Bullyingisaseriousproblemandisnotlimitedtostudent-to-studentinteractions.Vicioustreatmentandhatefulwordsoftenleadtodepression,discrimination,violence,andsuicide.Theonlineenvironmenthasdrasticallychangedthenatureofbullying,andstudentsshouldcarefullyconsiderhowtheircommunicationswillimpactothers.Inaddition,allstudentsshouldavoidcommunications/postingsthatmakeacrediblethreatofseriousphysicaloremotionalinjurytoanotherperson.
AvoidLying,Cheating,&Plagiarizing
Again,allinformationpostedonsocialmediasitesisconsideredpublicinformation.Itmaybeviewedbyathirdpartiesandusedagainstyou.Itisbesttoassumethatanythingyoupostmaybeseenbyyourschool,yourparents,andyourpeers.
PotentialforDisciplinebySchoolAuthorities
Therearemanycategoriesofonlineconductthat,iftheyrelatetoschoolactivityorattendance,andiftheyviolatetheEducationCodeand/orRowlandUnifiedSchoolDistrictrulesgoverningstudentconduct,maysubjectastudenttodisciplinebydistrictauthorities.Everyallegationofstudentmisconductisevaluatedbasedonthetotalityofthecircumstancesinvolved,includingonlineactivities.Coachesmayimposeprogressivedisciplineforinfractionsofteamguidelines.
ItisRowlandHighSchool’sexpectationthatallstudent-athleteswillrepresentRowlandHighSchoolinthebestpossiblemanner,upholdingthehighstandardsandcharacterthatexemplifytheproudtraditionsofRowlandHighSchoolandRowlandUnifiedSchoolDistrict.

INJURIES,CONCUSSIONS,&SUDDENCARDIACARREST
Participatingincompetitiveathleticsmayresultinsevereinjury,includingparalysisordeath.Changesinrules,improvedconditioningprograms,modernequipment,andmedicalcoveragehavereducedtheserisks.Howeveritisimpossibletototallyeliminatesuchincidentsfromoccurring.
Playersmayreducetheirchanceofinjurybyobeyingallsafetyrulesintheirsport,reportingallinjuriestotheircoaches,followingaproperconditioningprogramandinspectingequipmentdaily.Evenifalltheserequirementsaremet,aseriousinjury,paralysis,ordeathmayoccur.
PROCEDUREIFYOUAREINJURED
ReportALLinjuriesimmediatelytothecoach,trainer,orAthleticDirector.ThecoachortrainerwillfileanInjuryReportwiththeAthleticDepartment.
REMOVALFROMPECLASSDUETOINJURY
AnathletethatrequeststoberemovedfromPEactivityduringtheschooldayduetoaninjury,willalsoberemovedfromathleticactivityforthatdayortimeperiodasdeterminedbythemedicalphysician.
CONCUSSIONS/HEADINJURIES(A.B.2127andCIFBylaw503.H.)
EducationCode49475.Astudent-athletewhoissuspectedofsustainingaheadinjuryinapracticeoragameshallberemovedfromcompetitionatthattimefortheremainderoftheday.Anyathleteremovedforthisreasonmustreceiveawrittennotefromamedicaldoctortrainedinthemanagementofconcussionbeforereturningtopractice.Beforeanathletecanstarttheseasonandbeginpracticeinasport,aconcussioninformationsheetmustbesignedandreturnedtotheschoolbytheathleteortheparentorguardian.
Aconcussionisabraininjuryandallbraininjuriesareserious.Theyarecausedbyabump,blow,orjolttothehead,orbyablowtoanotherpartofthebodywiththeforcetransmittedtothehead.Theycanrangefrommildtosevereandcandisruptthewaythebrainnormallyworks.Eventhoughmostconcussionsaremild,allconcussionsarepotentiallyseriousandmayresultincomplicationsincludingprolongedbraindamageanddeathifnotrecognizedandmanagedproperly.
Inotherwords,evena“ding”orabumpontheheadcanbeserious.Youcan’tseeaconcussionandmostsportsconcussionsoccurwithoutthelossofconsciousness.Signsandsymptomsofconcussionsmayshowuprightaftertheinjuryorcantakehourstofullyappear.Ifyourchildreportsanysymptomsofconcussion,orifyounoticethesymptomsorsignsofconcussionyourself,seekmedicalattentionrightaway.

AgraduatedreturntoplayprotocolmustbecompletedbeforeyoucanreturntoFULLCOM-PETITION.
SuddenCardiacArrest(SCA)isnotaheartattack.It’sanabnormalityintheheart’selectricalsystemthatabruptlystopstheheartbeat.It’scausedbyanundetectedcongenitalorgeneticheartcondition.
CIFamendeditsbylawstoincludelanguagethataddsSCAtrainingtocoachcertificationandpracticeandgameprotocolthatempowerscoachestoremovefromplayastudent-athletewhoexhibitsfainting–thenumberonewarningsignofapotentialheartcondition.Astudent-athletewhohasbeenremovedfromplayafterdisplayingsignsandsymptomsassociatedwithSCAmaynotreturntoplayuntilheorsheisevaluatedandclearedbyalicensedhealthcareprovider.Parents,guardiansandcaregiversareurgedtodialoguewithstudent-athletesabouttheirhearthealthandeveryoneassociatedwithhighschoolsportsshouldbefamiliarwiththecardiacchainofsurvivalsotheyarepreparedintheeventofacardiacemergency.

LOCKERROOMCONDUCT
Studentsecurityandsafetyinthelockerroomfacilityareprioritiesofthecoachingstaff.Eachstudent-athleteisresponsibletoassistinkeepingthelockerroomareaclean,safe,andsecure.
• Absolutelynohorseplay.Injuriesand/orbadfeelingsmayresultfromthisfoolishaction.
• Lockandre-checkyourlockerbeforeleavingthelockerroom.
• Donotsharelockerswheneverpossibleorshareyourcombinationwithanyotherperson.

ATHLETEDRESSCODE
ItisexpectedthatallathleteswilladheretotheRowlandHighSchoolDressCodeaswellasthedresscodeasdeterminedbythesportparticipatingin.Athleteswillberequiredtowearanappropriateshirt/tanktop,andbottomsbeforeandafterpractices/contests.

PERSONALBEHAVIOR
Thefollowingoutlinestheobviousareasofpersonalethicsalongwithconsequencesforunethicalbehavior.
1. Anyathletewhoisfoundguiltyofstealingordefacingschoolorpersonalproperty,willbedismissedfromtheteam.
2. Profaneorobscenelanguage,oranyactofvulgarity,isnotacceptable.Violatorswillbedisciplinedbythecoachandmayalsofaceschooldisciplinaryaction.
3. Athletesareexpectedtotreattheiropponentswithrespectbefore,during,andaftercompetition.Athletesshowingpoorsportsmanshiptowardopponentsorofficials,willbedisciplinedbythecoachandmayalsofaceschooldisciplinaryaction.
4. Athletesareexpectedtoattendedallclasses,beontime,turnintheirassignmentsontime,seekhelpfromtheteacherwhennecessary,haveapositiveattitudetowardtheirpeersandteachers,andbegoodcitizen.Failuretodosowillresultindisciplinefromthecoach.
5. Anathletemustbeinclassforfourfullperiodstopracticeorplayinagamethatday.Ifanathleteisnotinfourfullperiodsofclass,heorshebecomesineligibletocompeteorpracticethatday.TheAthleticDirectormayhandlespecialcircumstances.
6. Anathletewhoissuspendedfromschoolmaynotparticipateinpractices,orgamesforthedurationofthesuspension,includingholidays,weekends,andbreaks.
7. Attendanceatpractice,scrimmages,teammeeting,andgamesisrequired.Absencesnotexcusedbythecoachinadvancemayresultindisciplinaryactionandpossibleremovalfromtheteam.
8. AcademicHonesty:AthletesareexpectedtouploadtheacademichonestypolicysetforthbyRowlandHighSchool.Athletesfoundcheatingwillbedisciplinedbythecoachandmayfacedisciplineactionfromtheschool.
9. SocialNetworkingbyStudent-AthleteParticipants:ItistheexpectationofRowlandHighSchoolthatasastudent-athleteyouwillrepresentourschoolinthebestpossiblemanner.FailuretoadheretoSocialNetworkingPolicywillresultindisciplinaryactionasinthestatedpolicy.
