LEARNING GOALS & SUCCESS CRITERIA ~ JUNIOR DIVISION

S i thi th t b d iSuccess is something that can be measured in many different ways. It is quite clear that the students that are being honoured tonight have excelled academically. However, as teachers and parents, we need to guide students to help them achieve optimal well-being which also includes: healthy relationships, positive self-esteem, and motivation to achieve life goals which are set by each student.Parents and teachers can help students learn about self-regulation by acting as role models in simple ways such as: g y g p yplanning meals and events, teaching children to concentrate on their homework without the distraction of technology, and learning how to manage stress by taking breaks, exercising, and spending quality time together.Children will be able to regulate themselves if they canChildren will be able to regulate themselves if they can depend on consistent rules and routines which creates a safe and secure environment. In addition, children need to learn how to solve problems with others particularly conflicts without the use of aggression. Parents and teachers can break things do n into smaller tasks or stepsteachers can break things down into smaller tasks or steps to minimize a child’s stress level or frustration. Finally, children benefit from building a foundation that will not only benefit them academically but also socially and emotionally.

LEARNING GOALS & SUCCESS CRITERIA ~ INTERMEDIATE DIVISION

The development of learning skills and work habits needed to succeed in school and in life begins early in a child’s schooling. As students move through the grades, they develop and then consolidate their learning skills and work habits in preparation for post-secondaryhabits in preparation for post secondary education and the world of work. The learning skills are a direct reflection of student achievement. We have been working with our students to help them develop the following six learning skills and work habits: Responsibility •Organization Independent Work •Collaboration Initiative •Self-RegulationThe two learning skills, which the intermediate division based their focus on for Term 1 were Self-Regulation and gCollaboration. It is essential to acknowledge that strong learning skills and positive work habits are often an indicator of future success in school, at home, and in life in general. Learning skills and work habits will look diff t i i di id l th ddifferent in individuals as they grow and mature. We will continue to work together with students and parents in order to develop the criteria used to assess learning skills and work habits.
