Stuck in an Entrepreneurial Funk?

1
Mind-Elasticity Q-Card: You’re in an Entrepreneurial Funk. How do you re- motivate yourself? An entrepreneurial funk is a really low place that often happens to entrepreneurs at all levels. Even the most seasoned of entrepreneurs that are knocking it out of the park are not immune to this low period. I define it as the point in your journey that you feel so lost, so out of focus and so de-motivated that you’re almost ready to throw the towel in. During my entrepreneurial funks I’ve even done the unthinkable – visited indeed.com looking for a job. Scary! It happens to us all. True entrepreneurship is a journey and part of that journey is experiencing this very phenomenon. Marcel Daane in his book, Headstrong Performance, talks about three zones that entrepreneurs typically operate within: The Uninspired (bored) Zone; The Performance Zone and the Overwhelmed (stressed) Zone. This Q-Card focuses on techniques to pull yourself out of the Uninspired Zone when you inevitably get there. Here’s how I personally got out of my funk: 1. I reveled in it. Sometimes you just need to let things run it’s course. Marcel states that the level of creativity is highest during this Uninspired Zone – because the mind is at ease. I utilized this time to re-tool myself and my strategy. 2. I self-reflected to understand what it takes to get me going and here’s what I found. I need goals to work towards. If I don’t have goals – I just simply don’t work. So, I created a SMART goal where the “T” (time-bound) of the goal was committed externally. If you want more clarity on an external commitment email me: [email protected] 3. I decided to change the hormonal make-up in my brain. After all, the brain does control emotion, motivation and action. Since fitness training is a proven approach to create a perfect hormonal cocktail, I signed up for a 28 body transformation challenge with some very specific goals for my physique. 4. I created a clearly defined written plan. During my weekly mastermind call, I would discuss my funk and would try various techniques to pull myself out. Here’s a written plan that worked. I identified and scripted out the most important tasks needed to meet my desired goals. I then batched the activities in to themed days for each working day of the week. 603-860-6240 | www.francisfernando.com
