There should be no surprises in this report as your child’s teacher and you will have had conversations about progress and you should know how your child is going. One point that sometimes does surprise parents is the grade that their child gets from A to E. We often consider a ‘C’ grade to be not very good but in fact it means that the student is performing at the expected year level and that is good. It is where the majority of our students are placed. Below are the definitions of the A to E grades that teachers will be giving students. A = Evidence of learning demonstrates outstanding achievement at this year level. B = Evidence of learning demonstrates high achievement at this year level. C = Evidence of learning demonstrates sound achievement at this year level. D = Evidence of learning demonstrates limited achievement at this year level. E = Evidence of learning demonstrates very limited achievement at this year level. Stuart Park School Master Plan The School Council is nearing the end of the development of our school Master Plan and the next step is all about consultation. The full plan will soon be available on our website but, in the meantime, we will have some significant aspects of it on display at the Arts Festival next week. Preschool Enrolments for 2020 We are taking enrolments into our preschool for next year. Please let friends know that, if they wish to choose morning or afternoon sessions, it is a good idea to get their enrolment in as soon as possible. Sports Day! Last Friday we hosted our 2019 Sports Day. It was a fun filled community event with students doing us proud with displays of their physical competence, sportsmanship and leadership. This event would not have been possible without the support and generosity of parent volunteers, the House Leaders and school staff. Thank-you for your time, thank you for your flexibility and thank-you for your help. An extra-large thank-you goes out to Nightcliff Friendly Grocers and NT Athletics who supplied fresh fruit for students to enjoy before the day started. Congratulations to all participants, you did your house teams and your school proud and hopefully had some fun along the way. The competition was fierce and results were close, however, as the day rolled to a close the winners were: Championship Plaque – Beagle

A very big thank you to Mrs. Hawkett, who organized the event. It was a fun day full of competition, support and encouragement.

Feedback Welcome This was the first time we have had our Sports

Carnival at school during the day for many years. We would appreciate any feedback that would help us to improve the carnival next year. Just send an email to

Cyberbullying Parent Session

Last Wednesday, the ThinkUKnow team, which is partnered by the Australian Federal Police and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia ran a Cyberbullying session at our school. We had approximately 20 parents in attendance. The session focused on informing parents about the different challenges we face when dealing with social media. It opened our minds to the dangers of grooming, cyberbullying, data shadows and much more. The key messages that came out is education is the best prevention and to create an environment where your child is comfortable coming to you with any issue they face online without fear of having their devices confiscated. If you have a chance to visit a session like this, I strongly recommend it.

All the Year 6 classes got their theatre on!

On Thursday the 13th of June, all of the Year 6 classes had the opportunity to go on an excursion to the Darwin Entertainment Centre to see ‘The Young King’. It was a spectacular theatre experience that we will no doubt be reminiscing over for months to come. Below are some of the reflections from our Year 6 kids!

The Young King On the 13th of June, Year 6 went to see an amazing play at the Darwin Entertainment Centre called ‘The Young King.’ It is based on a book by Oscar Wilde and produced by The Slingsby Theatre Company. I thought that it was going to be a normal ordinary play but, when entering, the atmosphere to the lead up of the performance, including making crowns and walking through a secret passageway, intrigued me. The play was about a young king having bad dreams the night before his coronation about the special crown, sceptre and cloak, and all the horrible things about them. Throughout the whole play it was a spectacular journey with emotion, effects and humour but what made it even better was the music from the live pianist that added the extra drama effect. Overall, from the start to the end, it was an excellent play that hopefully everyone thoroughly enjoyed. By Haylia Lewis

The Young King

The Young King was an excellent and stunning performance of selflessness and

generosity as well as greed and cruelty. The Young King is about to be a king

who wants a set of rare items and clothing but when he finds out how each was

made he refuses to wear them and escapes to his kingdom to live in the wild.

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes: year of schooling category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice,

supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to: formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve

educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy). Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au). If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
