FOOD SCIENCE AND NUTRITION
St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam is the pioneer Arts and Science College in Kerala to commence the Masters programme in Food Science and Nutrition in the year 2000. The Department of Home Science and Centre for Research commenced in 1958 and offered Nutrition as one of the Core courses in the Graduate programme in Home Science. The programme in Food Science and Nutrition provides professional education for those who wish to develop a career in Dietetics, Community Nutrition, Food industry or Nutrition research. It focuses on the interface between human nutrition and food science, an area of increasing importance to educators, health departments, consumers, government and the food industry.
The main objective of the programme is to equip students with skills and knowledge on the scientific study of Nutrition and to help students to become professionals who can effectively play a role in dietetics, academics, research, food industry, training and community services.
ELIGIBILITY
For admission for the PG Programme in Food Science & Nutrition, the applicant must have passed-
1. BSc. / B.Voc programme with specialization in Food and Nutrition/ Food Science & Quality Control/ Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics/ Food Technology / Food Processing Technology/ Home Science/ Family & Community Science.
2. Graduates in Biochemistry / Chemistry/ Zoology/ Nursing with PG. Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics of any statutory university recognized by M.G University are also eligible.
3. Graduates in Biochemistry/ Chemistry/ Zoology/ Nursing with any three of the following nutrition related courses are also eligible. i) Basic nutrition ii) Biochemistry iii) Human Physiology iv) Diet Therapy v) Clinical Nutrition vi) Diet in Diseases.

in the Department of Home Science is functioning as a ‘lab to land’ programme
to facilitate community outreach by the PG students. The clinic provides evidence based nutrition counselling for the public. A complete nutritional assessment conducted following which individualised dietary and lifestyle advice is provided. Body Composition Analyser (In body) is used for total composition analysis and personalised dietary advice.
