DRIVER INFORMATION CENTERThe Driver Information Center (DIC)provides information on many ofyour vehicle’s systems and, whennecessary, displays various warningsand messages. All messages willappear in the DIC display located atthe bottom of the instrument panelcluster. The DIC controls are locatedon the left side of the instrumentpanel.

DIC Controls

(VehicleInformation):Press this button toscroll through thefollowing vehicleinformationdisplays: • Fuel range• Fuel economy• Fuel used• Average speed• Timer• Battery voltage• Tire pressure (if equipped)• Engine oil life (if equipped)• Digital speed display (if equipped)

(Trip Information): Press the topof this button to scroll through theodometer and trip odometers. Pressand hold the bottom of this button toreset each trip odometer back tozero.

(Reset): Press this button to resetcertain DIC features as well as to acknowledge and clear DIC warningmessages from the display.

EM: Press this button to change thedisplay from English to Metric.

DIC Controls (with HUD)Uplevel DIC systems include Head-Up Display (HUD) controls (see

Head-Up Display) along with thefollowing DIC controls.

If a problem is sensed in one of yourvehicle’s systems, a warning ormessage will appear on the DICdisplay.

If your vehicle is equipped withOnStar, and your MalfunctionIndicator Lamp (Check Engine Light)or any other warning messageappears, you can press the blueOnStar button and speak to anOnStar Advisor. In many vehicles,OnStar Advisors can access certaindiagnostic information and tell youhow serious the condition is andwhat you should do about it.

See Section 3 of your Owner Manualfor detailed DIC system information.

HEAD-UP DISPLAY (if equipped)

The Head-Up Display (HUD) projectssome important driver informationfrom the instrument panel clusteronto the windshield, reducing theneed to look away from the road.

The information appears as an imagetoward the front of the vehicle. TheHUD displays the speedometer,turn signal indicators, high-beamheadlamps indicator symbol,adaptive cruise control features/indicators, check gauges icon, andsome radio and navigation features.The HUD controls are located on theleft side of the instrument panel.

(Up/Down Adjustment):Press this button (A) to adjust theup/down position of the HUD imageon the windshield. (It cannot beadjusted side-to-side.) Press the uparrow to move the HUD image upand the down arrow to move theHUD image down.

Brightness: Use this knob (B) toadjust the brightness of the HUDimage as well as the instrumentcluster and interior lighting. Pressand release the knob so that it popsout, and then turn the knob toincrease or decrease the brightnessof the instrument cluster and interiorlighting. Pull out the knob to thesecond detent in order to increase ordecrease the brightness of the HUDimage.

Off: With the knob (B) pulled out tothe second detent, turn it all the wayto the left to turn off the HUD image.

Adjust your seat to a comfortabledriving position before adjusting theHUD image. If you change your seatposition, you may have to readjustthe HUD image for proper viewing.

Note: Your vehicle’s warnings and messagesprovide critical information that can preventdamage to your vehicle. Review your OwnerManual to become familiar with theinformation displayed and the actionrequired.

If the ignition is on and you cannotsee the HUD image, check to seewhether:

• Something is covering the HUD unit

• The brightness is adjusted properly

• The HUD image is adjusted to the proper height

• Ambient light in the direction yourvehicle is facing is low

• A fuse is blown (see Fuses and Circuit Breakers in your Owner Manual)

• You are wearing polarizing sunglasses

• The windshield and HUD lens are clean (do not spray glass cleaner directly on the HUD lens)

Safety & Security

KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM

Your STS features a Keyless AccessSystem that enables you to lock andunlock the doors and trunk, and armor disarm the theft-deterrent system.It also allows you to remote startyour vehicle.

(Lock): Press this button when alldoors are closed to immediately lockall the doors. Press and hold thisbutton to express-close all of theopen windows in the vehicle.

(Unlock): Press this button tounlock the driver’s door. Press itagain within 10 seconds to unlock allremaining doors.

(Remote Start): This feature canbe used to start the engine fromoutside the vehicle (see AdaptiveRemote Start).

(Remote Trunk Release): Pressthis button to release the trunk lidwhen the engine is off or the shiftlever is in Park (P).

The trunk may also be opened usingthe Trunk Release button located inthe map pocket on the driver’s door.

Note: If the vehicle has lost battery power,access the trunk by unlocking and loweringthe rear seat pass-through door and pullingthe glow-in-the-dark emergency trunkrelease handle located inside the trunk nearthe back of the rear seats.

(Remote Alarm): Press thisbutton to locate your vehicle in aparking lot. The horn will chirp threetimes and the headlamps andparking lamps will flash three times.

To sound the panic alarm, press andhold the button for three seconds.The horn will chirp and the lampswill flash for two minutes. Press thebutton again to cancel the panicalarm. The vehicle must be turned offto use the alarm.

PASSENGER AIR BAG STATUSINDICATOR

Your vehicle is equipped with aPassenger Sensing System located inthe front passenger seat for the frontpassenger frontal air bag, and apassenger air bag status indicatorlocated on the overhead console.

ConveniencePUSHBUTTON STARTYour STS features a Pushbutton StartSystem that does not require atraditional key to start the engine.

Starting Your Engine• The Keyless Access System

transmitter must be in the vehicle. If no transmitter is detected, the Driver Information Center will display No Fob Detected. If the transmitter is in the vehicle andthe No Fob Detected message is displayed, place the transmitter in the pocket located in the back of the center console, with the buttons facing the front of the vehicle.

• With your foot on the brake pedal,press the top of the Start button. When the engine begins cranking, release the button. Do not holdthe button for longer than 15seconds at a time.

• If the engine does not start and a Driver Information Center messageis not displayed, wait 15 seconds and try again.

Stopping Your Engine• Move the shift lever to Park.• Press the bottom of the

Off/Accessory button.

If the shift lever is not in Park, theengine will stop but the vehicle willgo into accessory mode and theDriver Information Center will displayShift To Park. Once the shift lever ismoved to Park, the vehicle will turnoff.

Note: It is recommended that children notbe placed in the front passenger seat, evenwith the Passenger Sensing System. Allchildren should be secured in a rear seat,including an infant riding in a rear-facinginfant seat, a child riding in a forward-facingchild seat or an older child riding in abooster seat.

Note: Your engine will start only if the shiftlever is in Park or Neutral.

ADAPTIVE REMOTE START

This feature allows you to start theengine from outside the vehicle byusing the Keyless Access Systemtransmitter. (Normal transmitterrange is within approximately 200feet of the vehicle.)

You can also set the system toactivate the automatic climatecontrol, rear window defogger orseat temperature control (see VehiclePersonalization Settings).

The engine will run for about 10minutes before turning itself off, butcan be extended 10 minutes moreby performing another remote start sequence at any time. After two

consecutive remote starts, noadditional remote starts are alloweduntil the vehicle has been started.

The remote start system will notoperate if the hood or a door isopen.

Starting the Vehicle1. Aim the transmitter at the vehicle.2. Press and release the (Lock)

button on the transmitter.3. Immediately press and hold the

(Remote Start) button for aboutfour seconds.

4. When the vehicle starts, the parking lamps will light and remain on while the engine is running, and the doors will lock.

5. Repeat these steps for a 10-minutetime extension.

When you enter the vehicle after aremote start, press the Start buttonto transition to normal vehicleoperation before driving.

Canceling a Remote Start

If you wish to turn off the engineinstead of driving after a remotestart, perform one of the followingfunctions:

• Press and hold the Remote Start button until the parking lamps turn off.

• Press and release the Hazard Warning Flashers button inside the vehicle. Press the button again to turn off the flashers.

• Press the Start/Off/Accessory button on and then off.

• The engine will automatically stop when time expires.

Note: There must be a Keyless AccessSystem transmitter in the vehicle before thevehicle will turn off. If a transmitter is notpresent, the vehicle will go into accessorymode. You may choose to turn off thevehicle by pressing the Off/Accessorybutton or go back to run by pressing theStart button. If the vehicle is turned off, itwill not be able to be started again without aKeyless Access System transmitter.

Note: If the Check Engine light is illuminatedon the instrument panel cluster, AdaptiveRemote Start cannot be used. See yourdealer for the proper repairs.

S T SVOICE RECOGNITION(if equipped)

This feature allows for hands-freeoperation of your navigation andaudio system. It can be used whenthe ignition is in the On or Accessoryposition. The system is programmedfor the English language only.

Using Voice Recognition

1. Press the (Talk) button on the steering wheel until a beep sounds. Voice recognition is active when the microphone symbol is displayed on the navigation screen.

2. Clearly speak one of the available commands listed in your Navigation System Manual. The system will repeat and implement the command.

If the system does not recognize a spoken command, try again. If a spoken command is not available, the system will inform you of its status. For optimum functionality, keep interior noise levels to a minimum; otherwise, the system may not understand the command.

3. To end voice recognition, remain silent. After approximately five seconds of silence, the system automatically cancels Voice Recognition.

INTELLIBEAM AUTOMATICHEADLAMPS (if equipped)

IntelliBeam maximizes forward nightvision by automatically turning onthe high-beam headlamps when noother vehicle traffic is present, andswitches to low-beam intensity whenthe headlamps or taillamps of othervehicles are detected. The systemuses a digital light sensor on therearview mirror to monitorsurrounding traffic conditions. Itoperates only when driving over20 mph.

Turning On IntelliBeam

1. Press and release the On/Off button on the inside rearview mirror. The indicator light on the mirror will illuminate.

2. Enable the system by rotating the exterior lamp control switch to AUTO, with the turn signal/ multifunction lever in its neutral position.

The High-Beam On light willilluminate on the instrument panelcluster when the high-beamheadlights are on.

Turning Off IntelliBeam

• Press the On/Off button on the inside rearview mirror. The indicator light will turn off.

• Push or pull the multifunction leverwhen IntelliBeam has turned on the high-beam headlights to turn off the system. The indicator light on the inside rearview mirror will turn off.

ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (if equipped)

Adaptive Cruise Control allows cruisecontrol to be engaged in moderatetraffic conditions without continuallyadjusting the set speed. The systemuses radar to detect a vehicle directlyin your path and applies limitedbraking or acceleration to maintain aselected distance to the vehicleahead.

The cruise control switch and buttonsare located on the multifunction leveron the left side of the steeringcolumn and on the steering wheel.Adaptive Cruise Control systeminformation is displayed in the Head-Up Display.

(Off): Move the cruise controlswitch to this position to turn off thesystem (or apply your brake todeactivate the set speed).

(On): Move the switch to thisposition to turn on the system.

(Set/Decrease): Press this button,located at the end of themultifunction lever, to set the speed,or to decrease the set speed whenthe system is active.

+(Resume/Increase): Move theswitch to this position to resume apreviously set speed, or to increasethe set speed when the system isactive.

S T SSelecting a Follow Distance (GAP)

Use the GAP button on the steeringwheel to adjust the distance betweenyou and the vehicle ahead of you.

+ (Increase Follow Distance): Pressthe top of the GAP button to increasethe follow distance.

– (Decrease Follow Distance): Pressthe bottom of the GAP button todecrease the follow distance.

The (Vehicle Ahead) symbol onthe Head-Up Display will illuminatewhen a vehicle is detected in yourpath. Adaptive Cruise Control willadjust your speed to follow the

vehicle at the selected followdistance.

Adaptive Cruise Control Alert

If driver action is required whenusing Adaptive Cruise Control, the

(Adaptive Cruise Control Alert)symbol on the Head-Up Displayflashes and a warning beep sounds.This may occur when approaching avehicle too rapidly and the systemcannot apply sufficient braking.

POWER MIRRORS AND CURB-VIEW ASSIST

The power mirrors control is locatedon the driver’s door and controlsboth outside rearview mirrors as wellas the outside parallel park (curb-view) assist function. Curb-view assisttilts down the selected outsiderearview mirror when the vehicle isshifted into Reverse.

Activating Curb-View Assist

Move the toggle switch in the centerof the power mirror control to theright to activate curb-view assist forthe passenger-side rearview mirrorand to the left for the driver-siderearview mirror, and then shift intoReverse.

Neither mirror will tilt down to thecurb-view position if the toggleswitch is in the middle position.

Vehicle PersonalizationVEHICLE PERSONALIZATIONSETTINGS

A variety of your vehicle’s featurescan be programmed to a preferredsetting for up to two people. Onvehicles without the navigation audiosystem, use the Personal SettingsMenu to set feature preferences.

Note: Adaptive Cruise Control will not applyhard braking or bring the vehicle to acomplete stop, nor will it respond tostopped vehicles. See Sections 3 and 4 ofyour Owner Manual for more information.

Personal Settings Menu

1. Turn the ignition to the On or Accessory position.

2. Press the Driver 1 or Driver 2 button on the Keyless Access System transmitter to identify yourself.

3. Turn on the radio.

4. Press the CNFG (Configure) button or the Tune/Select knob on the radio to enter the radio’s main menu.

5. Use the Tune/Select knob to scroll to SETUP, and then press the knobto enter the menu.

6. Use the Tune/Select knob to scroll to PERSONAL SETTINGS MENU, and then press the knob to enter the menu. A list of personalization features will appear.

7. Use the Tune/Select knob to scroll to the feature you would like to set, and then press the knob to turn the feature on or off. If the feature is turned on, a check mark will appear.

Some features have submenus thatshow additional features that can beset. After entering a submenu, usethe Tune/Select knob to scrollthrough the features, and thenpress the knob to turn the featureon or off.

To exit the Personal Settings Menu,press the F6 (Back) button on theradio, or wait 15 seconds toautomatically return to the mainaudio screen.

Recalling Personalization Settings

Your preferences are recalled bypressing any button on the KeylessAccess System transmitter (must beactivated through the DIC) or byselecting the desired choice on theDriver Selection submenu.

S T SMEMORY SETTINGS (if equipped)

This feature allows up to two driversto program and recall memorysettings for the driver’s seat position,outside rearview mirrors position,telescopic steering column position,some radio and CD settings, lastclimate control setting, HUD position(if equipped) and otherpersonalization settings.

Storing Driver Settings1. Turn the ignition to the On or

Accessory position.2. Press the Driver 1 or Driver 2

button on the Keyless Access System transmitter to identify yourself.

3. Turn on the radio.4. Press the CNFG (Configure) button

to enter the radio’s main menu.5. Use the Tune/Select knob to scroll

to SETUP, and then press the knobto enter the menu.

6. Use the Tune/Select knob to scroll to DRIVER SELECTION, and then press the knob to enter the menu.

7. Adjust the driver’s seat, outside rearview mirrors and steeringcolumn to a comfortable position.

8. Set the climate controltemperature, fan speed and mode settings, radio presets, tonevolume, playback mode (AM/FMor CD) and CD position.

9. Use the Tune/Select knob to scrollto STORE DRIVER SETTINGS, andthen press the knob. Two beepswill sound and your settings willbe saved.

Your memory settings are nowprogrammed. Any changes made to the audio system and climatecontrols while driving will beautomatically stored when theignition is turned off. If desired,program the other driver number by repeating the procedure.

Recalling Driver Settings

EntertainmentRADIO AND CD CONTROLS

While most of the features on yourradio will look familiar, following aresome that may be new:

(Power/Volume): Press the leftknob to turn the system on or off.Turn the knob to adjust the volume.

(Tune/Select): Turn the rightknob to select radio stations. Pressthe knob to enter the radio’s mainmenu.

BAND: Press this button to switch toFM1, FM2, AM, or XM1 and XM2 (ifequipped).

SRCE (Source): With a CD loaded,press this button to switch betweenradio and CD operation.

CNFG (Configure): Press this buttonto enter the radio’s main menu.

(Scan): Press this button to scanradio stations or, when a CD isplaying, to scan each track or MP3file. Each station, track or file will playfor several seconds and then advanceto the next station, track or file. Pressthe button again to stop scanning.

To scan preset radio stations, pressand hold the button for two secondsuntil a beep sounds and PSCAN isdisplayed. Press the button again tostop scanning.

(Seek): Press the right or leftarrow button to go to the next orprevious radio station or, when a CDis playing, to the next or previoustrack or MP3 file.

Radio Data System

When you tune to a Radio DataSystem (RDS) station, the stationname and call letters will appear onthe display. RDS stations may alsoprovide the time of day, a programtype for current programming andthe name of the program beingbroadcast.

RDS features are available for useonly on FM stations that broadcastRDS information. RDS relies onreceiving specific information fromthese stations and will work onlywhen the information is available.

BLUETOOTH® PHONE INTERFACE (if equipped)If your entertainment system isBluetooth enabled, you can use aBluetooth-compatible phone in ahands-free mode.

Connecting Your Bluetooth Phone

1. Place your phone in “discoverable”mode or turn on the Bluetoothfeature.

2. Press the CONFIG button on theradio.

3. Select the Bluetooth button on thetouch screen.

4. Select the Search button on thetouch screen.

5. Select the button next to name of your device on the touch screen.

6. Select the Connect button on thetouch screen.

7. Follow the connecting procedureson your phone and the touchscreen.

8. To set your phone as the defaultdevice, select the device name on the touch screen, and then selectthe Default button on the touchscreen.

S T SUsing Your Bluetooth Phone

1. Press the AUX button on the radioto enter the Bluetooth Phone screen.

2. Select the Bluetooth button on thetouch screen.

3. Use the touch screen keypad or your phone keypad to enter a phone number. You can also selecta number from the vehicle’sphone book.

4. Select the Phone button on the touch screen to dial the number.

5. To disconnect the call, press the Phone button on the touch screen.

MULTIPLE-DISC CD PLAYER(if equipped)

With the in-dash 6-Disc CD Player,note that you cannot directly load aCD as in single-play systems. CDscan be loaded or ejected with theaudio system on or off.

Loading CD(s)

• To load a single CD, press and release the Load button. Wait for the display prompt to load the CD.

• To load multiple CDs, press and hold the Load button for two seconds. Follow the display prompts to load each CD.

If the audio system is on, the last CD loaded will begin playingautomatically.

Playing a CD

F1 CD â (Down): Press this button togo to the previous CD.

F2 CD á (Up): Press this button to goto the next CD.

F3 CD REV << (Reverse): Press thisbutton to go to the previous track.Press and hold the button to reversequickly within a track.

F4 CD FWD >> (Forward): Press thisbutton to go to the next track. Pressand hold the button to advancequickly within a track.

F5 MODE: Press this button to selectfrom Normal, Repeat Track, RepeatCD, Random Track, and Random All CDs.

F6 DISPLAY: Press this button todisplay the time of the track.

Ejecting a CD

(Eject): Press this button to ejectthe CD that is currently playing. Pressand hold the button to eject all CDs.

Note: CDs with any affixed labels may jamin the CD player. Label a CD using apermanent marker. If more than one CDis inserted into the slot at one time, or ifscratched or damaged CDs are played, theCD player could be damaged. When usingthe CD player, use only CDs in goodcondition without labels; load one CD ata time; and keep the CD player and theloading slot free of foreign materials, liquidsor debris.

DVD/NAVIGATION RADIO SYSTEM(if equipped)

With the 6-disc CD/DVD changer/Navigation Radio System, you canplay up to six audio CDs, MP3s, DTSdiscs, audio DVDs or video DVDscontinuously.

When a disc is inserted into thechanger, the control functions willappear on the display.

Loading a Disc

1. Press the CD/DVD Load hard key (D).

2. Press the numbered touch screen key of the slot you will be loading the disc into, 1–6, at the bottomof the CD/DVD display screen.

3. Wait for the display prompt toload the disc.

Playing a Disc

You can select one of the numberedtouch screen keys at the bottom ofthe CD/DVD display screen to gofrom one disc to another.

• Press one of the available touch screen keys, 1–6, to begin playing that disc automatically.

• When playing a DVD, press the Display touch screen key to accessfurther DVD options.

• From the Display screen, press theDVD Menu touch screen key to access the video DVD menu.

S T SEjecting a Disc

1. Press and release the CD/DVD Eject hard key (E).

2. Press the numbered touch screen key of the slot you will be ejectingthe disc from, 1–6, at the bottom of the CD/DVD display screen.

3. The system will eject the disc.

To eject all discs at once, press andhold the CD/DVD Eject hard key.

Playing Auxiliary Devices

Connect an auxiliary device, such asa video camera, using standard RCAcables to the color-coded audio/video jacks in the center console. Avideo image will be available onlywhen the vehicle is in Park.

To play other audio sources using theconnected auxiliary device, press theAUX hard key and then the VideoIn/Out touch screen key.

Navigation System

Your vehicle’s Navigation Systemprovides you with detailed maps ofall major highways and roadsthroughout the United States. Afteryou enter a destination, the systemprovides turn-by-turn instructions

for reaching your destination. Inaddition, the system can help youlocate banks, airports, restaurantsand more.

Performance &MaintenanceSTABILITRAK® – STABILITY CONTROLSYSTEM

StabiliTrak is an advanced computer-controlled vehicle stabilityenhancement system that assists withdirectional control of the vehicle indifficult driving conditions. It turns onautomatically every time you startyour vehicle.

To turn off the system, press andhold the traction control buttonlocated near the shift lever on thecenter console. The messageSTABILITY SYSTEM OFF will appearon the DIC.

To turn the system back on, eitherpress the traction control button orturn the engine off and then restartthe vehicle.

OIL LIFE SYSTEM

The Oil Life System calculates engineoil life based on vehicle use anddisplays CHANGE ENGINE OILSOON in the Driver InformationCenter (DIC) when it’s necessary tochange your engine oil and filter. TheOil Life System should be reset to100% only following an oil change.

Resetting the Oil Life System

1. Press the up or down arrow on the (Information) button until theDIC displays Engine Oil Life.

2. Press and hold the (Reset)button until 100% ENGINE OILLIFE is displayed.

PREMIUM FUEL

Your vehicle may be equipped withan engine that was designed to usepremium unleaded gasoline.

See your Owner Manual forinformation on the recommendedfuel for your vehicle.
