Guidelines to follow at St. John Neumann Parish

Congregants should plan on restricted seating, a change in

the reception of Communion in order to ensure social

distancing, and other appropriate measures upon entering

and exiting churches. The dispensation from the obligation to attend

Sunday Mass remains in place. All who are espe-

cially vulnerable or simply uncomfortable attending

a public Liturgy are encouraged to remain at home

and if possible, view Mass via live streams, which

will continue in local parishes.

If you are SICK, stay home and limit your contact with others.

Please be concerned about others.

*Never Forget Sanitizer and Mask when

you come to Church*

Parishioners should bring and be prepared to wear their own

masks and, a bottle of hand sanitizer for use upon entering,

before receiving Communion, after receiving Communion,

and after exiting the church.

********************************************* Next weekend there is a special collection for “Respect Life Sunday

for Moms & Babies” Please drop your envelope in the regular collection next weekend.

Today’s Readings:

Ezekiel 18: 25-28 Philippians 2: 1-11 or 2: 1-5

Matthew 21: 28-32

Ezekiel exhorts his audience to turn back to God, that in so doing they will save their lives. Jesus tells the chief priests and the elders that those who obey God will enter the kingdom of God. Paul suggests a model in Jesus, who humbled himself to do his Father’s will. Let us listen to the word of God, asking for God’s mercy for our failings and God’s grace to

change our minds and hearts.

Next week’s readings: Isaiah 5: 1-7

Philippians 4: 6-9 Matthew 21: 33-43

A VOCATION VIEW We are told to “fight the good fight,” and to “run the race.”

This makes it clear that the will of God must be pursued with

desire, passion, and commitment. Our vocations then, are

not to be taken lightly, but pursued wholeheartedly. If God is

calling you to a Church vocation,

call Fr. Andrew Lauricella at 716-847-5535.

*******************************************************************

Lectors, Cantor and Eucharistic Ministers We will be working on the next ministry schedule in the next 7-10 days.

While Covid has impacted many factors into scheduling, we are asking that if

you do not feel comfortable returning, please contact the office and advise,

we are extremely light on ministers for the 8:00pm Saturday night mass—so

if you can help out there occasionally that will great help and is usually a

lighter attended mass. One new item that will help out Father, if he has not

arrived before you, please turn on the lights and light the altar candles—he

has mentioned that sometimes people are sitting in the dark when he gets

there. Father really appreciates everyone’s help and cooperation during this

pandemic. This next schedule will take us to just before Christmas and we

will attach a list of ministers, lector and cantors with their contact numbers

for you to arrange for substitutes if needed.

********************************************************

Ushers We need help to take up collection during the offertory…both men and

women are suitable for this duty. Kindly make sure there are at least 2,

ideally 4 ushers per mass.

************************************************************

Thank you for your support on the pizza crust sale!

We realized a profit of $973.00 on selling 106 packages of crusts.

******************************

Turkey dinner will be Sunday October 25th

Drive-thru only

We are looking for donations of Butternut squash for the dinner. We will have a basket in the back of church for anyone who had an abundant harvest and would like to share with us. Any questions,

please call Dana Kirsch at 716-243-6246

The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo

Office of the Apostolic Administrator

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

As you may now be aware, we have embarked on a “Road to Renewal”

here in our Diocese which aims to reinvigorate Catholic faith, to optimize

more fully parish and diocesan resources and, importantly, increase the

reach and impact of our varied ministries throughout Western New York.

Toward this end, I formed a Diocesan Renewal Task Force this past

summer to look at how others in dioceses across the country have faced

similar challenges that we now confront with regard to diminished

financial resources and reduced church and school attendance, but who

have been successful in promoting a culture of co-responsibility among

laity, clergy and religious in carrying out the work of evangelization,

education and service.

Beginning in the coming days and continuing into October, the Task

Force members, along with the Vicars of the Diocese, will be conducting

regional consultation sessions in order to gain insight and input from

parish leaders, school administrators, and from parishioners across the

diocese that will inform decisions about how we will be structured and

operate going forward. I want to assure you that there are no predefined

conclusions or decisions regarding the way in which regions, parishes

and schools will be affected. We are intent on determining how best to

preserve individual parish identities as a “Family of Families” - regardless

of decisions that may change the way any one parish family is organized

and experiences the fullness of Catholic life.

The fact is, never has what we offer as a community of believers been

more needed, particularly in light of the devastating, ongoing effects of

the Covid-19 threat. As families struggle with the uncertainty of

prolonged financial hardship, parish communities must be that place

where those struggling to access basic resources have a place to turn,

where there is always a shoulder to lean on and where no one is left to

walk alone.

Please know that we will be communicating regularly about the progress

of our discussions and the conclusions that will be informed by them. A

special section of our diocesan website will include the most up-to-date

information, as well as schedules for the regional listening sessions.

I invite you to participate as much as you can and to share your ideas,

voice your concerns and to discern with others how we can best live and

demonstrate our Catholic faith here in Western New York going forward.

May our good and gracious God guide and sustain us as we travel this

new and promising journey together!

Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger

Apostolic Administrator
