  • Structures of the Excretory System

  • The Skin

     Sweat glands produce sweat, which

functions as a temperature control and

    pheromone release

     Sweat also produces salt

  • Lungs

     The lungs diffuses gaseous wastes

    -carbon dioxide

The waste is diffused from the

bloodstream as a normal part of

    respiration

  • Kidneys

The kidney eliminates wastes from the

bloodstream by the production of urine

  • Nephrons are the basic structural and

    functional unit of the kidney

-There are over 1 million nephrons in

    each kidney

-act as filters inside the kidneys

  • Ureter

The ureters are muscular tubes that take

urine from the kidneys to the urinary

    bladder

  • Urinary Bladder

The urinary bladder collects urine created

    by the kidneys

The urinary bladder is located on the

    pelvis floor

  • Urethra

connects the urinary bladder to the

outside of the body. In humans.

  • Excretion and the KidneysExcretion is the process by which waste

products and other non-useful materials are eliminated from an organism.

When waste blood enters the kidney, urea and excess water are removed by units called nephrons.

  • Excretory in depth

As your body performs the many functions

that it needs in order to keep itself alive, it

    produces wastes. These wastes are

chemicals that are toxic and that if left

alone would seriously hurt or even kill you.

  • Continued…

The excretory system is a biological system

    that removes excess and unnecessary

materials from an organism, to help

    prevent damage to the body.

  • Continued…

The excretory system removes liquid toxic

wastes as well as excess water from the

organism, in the form of urine.

  • The Kidneys

    and

HomeostasisThe Kidneys respond directly to the composition of the blood. They are also influenced by the endocrine system. Disruption of proper kidney function can lead to serious health problems.

  • Homeostasis

Tendency of an organism or a cell to

regulate its internal conditions so as to

    stabilize its health and functioning,

    regardless of the outside changing

    conditions.

  • Endocrine System

System of glands that produce endocrine

    secretions that help control bodily

    metabolic activity.

  • Composition of Blood

Blood is made up of red blood cells, white

blood cells, and platelets. The cells float in

    a straw-colored liquid called blood

    plasma.

  • Filtration

    Shekinah & Dashawn

  • What is filtration?

Passing a liquid or gas through a filter to

    remove wastes. (a Filter)

  • Why is it used? It’s a filter….

     Separate particles

     Break down things

  • How is it used in the excretory

    system?

    Where it occurs

In the Kidneys where urine is made by filtering blood

    What is filtered out

     Nitrogenous waste

     Nucleic acids

    How filtration works

Water and chemicals are squeezed through capillary walls as the heart pushes blood through the glomerulus

  • Different types of Filtration Mechanical Filtration: Trapping of solids… Biological Filtration: uses bacteria to breakdown waste.. Natural Filtration: Simplest filtration…records the “past behavior” Water Filtration: to remove impurities from the water supplyAnd Many more!
