OPERATIONAL PROGRAMME QUALITY OF THE ENVIRONMENT
The Operational Programme was established in order to support the sustainable and efficient use of
natural resources. It should ensure the protection of the environment and promote energy-efficient low-
carbon economy.
The programme contains these main priorities:
o Use of biomass for the construction of facilities.
o Energy production and use of biogas, landfill gas and gas from sewage treatment plants.
o Construction of facilities for the production of biomethane; use of water power; use of
aerothermal, hydrothermal and geothermal energy using heat pumps.
o Construction of facilities for geothermal direct use of heat and possibly in combination with a heat
pump.
o Implementation of small facilities for the use of renewable energy sources for electricity and heat
production: photovoltaic panels; wind turbines; solar collectors; biomass boilers; heat pumps.
o Reconstruction and modernization of industrial buildings and services in order to reduce the
energy intensity of existing power facilities and to increase energy efficiency or to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, production systems and compressed air.
o Construction and modernization of power distribution and energy media distribution systems,
including external lighting industrial areas.
Take measurement and management systems in order to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas
emissions.
Financing
For the most developed region in Slovakia (Bratislava region) there is a budget of 2 656 424 €. For the
other Slovak regions, which are still less developed, such as Trnava, Trenčín, Nitra, Banská Bystrica, Žilina,
Prešov, Košice, there is a budget of 1 612 472 049 €.

INTEGRATED REGIONAL OPERATIONAL PROGRAMME
The Integrated Regional Operational Programme was established in order to promote the quality of life
and to ensure a sustainable source of public services across the country. In this way, it can contribute to
the sustainable development of Slovak regions.
The project contains these main activities:
o Support of the creative ideas for the development of non-technological innovation.
o Financing of the creative industries, such as: architecture, design, advertising and marketing,
fashion design, film, TV, photography, fine visual arts, multimedia industry, literature and book
market, music industry and performing arts, folk and urban culture, art market and so on.
o Creation and support of different services, such as: creative incubator services, creative
accelerator, technology and networking services.
o Facilitate access to tangible and intangible assets of SMEs in the cultural and creative sector in
order to support the job creation.
Financing of the Integrated Regional Operational Programme
For the more developed region in Slovakia (Bratislava region) there is a budget of 40 000 000 €. For other
Slovak regions, which are less developed, such as Trnava, Trenčín, Nitra, Banská Bystrica, Žilina, Prešov,
Košice, there is a budget of 230 424 175 €.
OPERATIONAL PROGRAMME RESEARCH AND INNOVATION
The scope of the Operational Programme Research and Innovation is to enhance the innovation and the
competitiveness of enterprises and in particular of SMEs. It should also improve the performance of the
R&I system and promote the cooperation between the research institutes and the business sector. The
programme focuses on all Slovak regions and it is highly important for implementing the country's R&I
Strategy for Smart Specialisation.
The programme is focused on research, technological development and innovation and its main priorities
are the following:
o Promote centres of competence, business investment in research and innovation.
o Development of the R&I activities, technology transfer, social innovation, eco-innovation, public
service application.
o Support of technological and applied research, pilot lines, early product validation actions,
advanced manufacturing capabilities and first production.

The main activities of the programme are also aimed at the enhancing of the competitiveness and growth
of SMEs:
o Support the growth of SMEs in different markets (both at a national and international level).
o Create and extend advanced capacities for product and service development.
o Develop and implement new business models for SMEs.
Financing of the Operational Programme Research and Innovation
For the Bratislava region here is a budget of 171 342 658 €. For other, less developed Slovak regions, such
as Trnava, Trenčín, Nitra, Banská Bystrica, Žilina, Prešov, Košice, there is a budget of 1 987 433 87€.
FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME OF EU FOR THE PERIOD 2014-2020
Horizon 2020
This is the biggest EU R&I Programme with almost €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to
2020)
In addition to the private investment that this money will attract, it guarantees also more possibilities by
taking great ideas from the lab to the market. Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument, which implements
the Innovation Union and Europe 2020 Flagship Initiative aimed at Europe's global competitiveness.
Horizon’s 2020 priorities:
o Leadership in enabling and industrial technologies (LEIT) – nanotechnologies, biotechnology,
information and communication technologies, space, advanced manufacturing and processing.
o Societal Challenges – smart transports; environment and resource efficiency; health, demographic
change and wellbeing; food security and its sustainable research and bioeconomy.
o Excellent Science: European Research Council, Future and Emerging Technologies, Marie –
Sklodowska-Curie Actions, Research Infrastructures.
o Access to Risk Finance.
o Innovation in SME’s.
o Spreading excellence and widening participation.
o Science with and for Society.
o Euratom Research and Training Programme 2014 – 2018.
