    Strides Constitution 2011-2012

    I. NameA. The name of this organization shall be Strides at UCSD (Hereinafter, Strides).

    II. PurposeA. The purpose of Strides is to provide a recreational and social running environment to the

    students at the University of California at San Diego (Hereinafter, UCSD).

    B. Strides will accomplish this by having multiple runs throughout the week, multiple socialevents throughout the quarter, and occasional races throughout the year.

    C. Strides is a non-profit organization.III. Membership

    A. Membership in Strides shall be open to any undergraduate student enrolled at UCSD.B. Membership dues are $15 dollars.C. Membership is valid from the date paid until the end of that academic year.D. Only current Strides members, who have paid their membership fees, can benefit fromfunds acquired through UCSD tuition fees.E. Active Membership

    1. Defined as a member who has paid their dues and attends at least one weeklymeeting, on a regular basis.

    2. Only active members can vote in any decision affecting the management orfinances of the organization, and any constitutional ratification of the StridesConstitution.

    F. Membership of any individual may be revoked before the end of the academic year witha three-quarters vote by principal members if a member is seen as a negative aspect to thepurpose of Strides.

    1. Dues will not be reimbursed to any individual whom has had his or hermembership revoked. Such individuals may or may not become a member ofStrides in the future, at the discretion of the principal members.

    IV. Principal Members / Officer Eligibility

    A. Eligibility Requirements1. Must be undergraduate students at UCSD and shall be registered through the

    University as principal members of Strides.2. Must have maintained Active member status for at least one quarter.3. Will assume full responsibility for all club business including financial

    transactions of Strides.

    4. Will have access to the Strides UCSD email account.5. Must attend two officer meetings per quarter, and any other meetings set forth bythe President.

    6. Must be present for at least two Strides runs per week during Weeks 1-10 duringan academic quarter

    7. Must be present at UCSD for two quarters of the academic year.

    B. The terms of all principal members last for one academic year, and can only otherwise beterminated by one of the following:

    1. A principal member vacates their position by graduating2. A principal member voluntarily removes themselves as a principal member

    V. Principle Membership PositionsA. President1. Serve as UCSDs official Strides representative at UCSD Student Organization

    meetings2. Host at least two quarterly Officer meetings every quarter3. Maintain and update current Strides membership lists4. Maintain UCSD email account and reply weekly to Strides emails5. Maintain and update the Strides Informational Binder

    a. Updates include current runs, membership lists, budgetary information,officer bios, and other vital Strides information

    6. Serve as a co-signer on the Strides USE Credit Union accounta.

    Must keep a checkbook from this account7. Serve as liaison between Strides members and UCSD Recreation Offices

    8. Must annually register Strides as an official UCSD organization9. Assure other Officers are maintaining their Principal Member positions10.If the President is not available to attend a meeting or UCSD mandated

    Organization function, the President may appoint a replacementB. Vice President

    1. Serve as Secretary during Officer meetings, or any other meeting called by thePresident

    2. Maintain race results from each race run in Strides during that academic year,which will be placed in the Strides Informational Binder

    3. Serve as a co-signer on the Strides USE Credit Union accounta. Must keep a checkbook from this account

    4. Coordinate Annual Strides Officer Election procedures in accordance to theConstitution

    5. In the case of vacancy in the position of Strides President, the Vice President shallact as President until an election can be arranged

    C. Treasurer1. Maintain the Strides budget, providing monthly budget updates to Strides

    Principal members, and updating records of past expenses2. Serve as a co-signer on the Strides USE Credit Union account

    a. Must keep a checkbook from this account3. Assist Activities Coordinators with budgetary needs for Strides activities and

    races, including money collections for race registration feesD. Webmaster

    1. Maintain the Strides website and Facebook Group Accounta. Upload current photos, provide accurate officer schedules, and actively

    update Information sections on a monthly basisE. Public Outreach/ Fundraising Advocate

    1. Actively promote awareness of club within the UCSD community

    2. Plan two Go N See Runs with the Sexual Assault and Violence PreventionResource Center (SARC) during Welcome Week

    3. Coordinate advertisement ordering for the incoming UCSD Freshmen Summerpamphlet

    4. Plan one advertising activity per quartera.

    Advertising activities may be passive programs, advertisements in localnewspapers, or large scale programs

    b. One advertising activity during the year must be a fundraising event5. Email UCSD Resident Deans and RA staffs regarding Strides Runs and events, at

    least once per quarterF. Activities Coordinator

    1. There shall be two Activities Coordinators per academic year2. Plan official Strides weekly activities and provide Strides members with

    information regarding racesa. Activities may include Strides Surprise Runs, City-wide races, Scavenger

    Hunts, and track workouts.

    Document written evaluations of each activity, including information regardingdescription of events, names of students who attended, and other pertinentinformation

    a. Written evaluations are to be placed in the Strides Informational BinderVI. Principle Member Appointments

    A. President and Vice President1. The position of Strides President and Vice President must be re-elected every year

    by a majority vote of the current Active members.B. All other Principal Member Positions

    1. If a principal member is not graduating, and wishes to continue serving as aprincipal member, they may either

    a. Retain their same principal member positionb. Choose another principal member position, provided it is not already

    filled, for the following yearC. All Principal members shall be appointed by a majority vote of the current Active

    members.1. The election of President and Vice President will precede all other Principal

    Member positions2. Any duty may be appointed by a majority vote of the principal members. Any

    duty appointed may also be revoked by a majority vote of the principal members.

    VII. Removal from office

    A. Any principal member may be removed from office for failure to perform theirprescribed duties by a two thirds vote of the principal members, provided that allprincipal members are notified of this pending action at least one week prior to theremoval decision.

    B. Removal from the office can occur either for failure to carry out the responsibilities ofthat office, or for actions which violate the purposes of the organization.

    C. Written charges by a member are to be presented to the principal officers who will notifythe principal officer in question with sufficient opportunity given for the officer to answercharges at a principal member meeting.

    VIII. Meetings

    A.

    Multiple reoccurring runs throughout the week should be scheduled throughout thequarter. The schedule of runs must be publicized to all members through email prior tothe beginning of that quarter.

    B. General membership meetings are not required by these bylaws. However, if the principalmembers deem general membership meetings necessary, the principal members shallplan a meeting and give at least a one week notice to all members by email.

    IX. Funding

    A. Dues of $15 dollars shall be charged for membership in Strides. Membership expires atthe end of the academic year during which the dues were paid. Dues will be collected anyday throughout the academic year, during the weekly runs. The President and the

    Treasurer are responsible for coordinating the collection of dues, but may receive helpfrom any other principal member. Only principal members may participate in thecollection of dues.

    B. Strides shall, as it deems necessary, undertake fundraisers for its own purposes. Allfundraising shall be conducted in accordance with UCSD policies.

    C. Strides is a non-profit organization. All acquired funds shall be used for social eventsand races throughout the year to benefit all participating members. If there are any fundsthat remain at the end of the school year, the funds shall be used for the subsequent year.

    X. Amendments

    A. Amendments to this constitution shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the activemembers.

    XI. Jurisdiction

    A. Strides is subject, as a recognized/registered student organization, to the rules,regulations, and policies of UCSD, the laws of the State of California, and the laws of theUnited States of America.

    B. The rules, regulations and policies of UCSD shall hold precedence over any and all rules,regulations, and policies applying to Strides.
