How toys lost their innocence
![Page 2: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/2.jpg)
At LeapFrog (Canadian Toy Company), our approach is
simple. Learning comes first.A Different Kind of Learning
Company.
![Page 3: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Who will repair clean cars? Fly airbuses? Broker peace where there has only been war? Our children. They are the future. And what seems impossible
today becomes possible tomorrow when they have the knowledge to succeed.
![Page 4: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
LeapFrog is committed to helping provide that knowledge.
We are a company with one philosophy, passion, mantra -
learning first.

Play value vs.
consumerism
![Page 6: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
While any toy worth its salt will inspire creative, open-ended play,
some companies like LeapFrog are banking on something else: parental anxiety about whether kids are using their playtime
productively.
![Page 7: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
...Tolo toys are "designed intelligently, using colour, sound and feel as key stimulation aids, your child will quickly discover
that learning is fun!"
![Page 8: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
What does it say about society if toys can't just be toys?
![Page 9: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
The truth is, kids will be stimulated by and learn from almost anything--a toy
truck, a Barbie, a set of measuring cups or a toothpaste box. It's unnecessary and downright puritanical to keep pushing education as the raison d'être of play. It's even worse that, in so many cases,
education is narrowly defined as instruction in facts and figures.
![Page 10: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Toymakers have eagerly capitalized on the early-childhood focus of recent years. It's now rare
to peddle a toy without some reference to its brain-stimulating qualities. “Brilliant marketing,
scaring parents to death.”

"The whole idea is that we have to make better babies. If
they're not reading by 18 months, they're not going to get into McGill and they're just going to be ruined."
![Page 12: Stress Out!3](https://reader034.fdocuments.net/reader034/viewer/2022052522/554fbf3ab4c9053d018b49cf/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
...a LeapFrog Canada survey released last May found 74 per
cent of mothers were "concerned about their children's ability to
compete in the global economy," and 98 per cent were "providing
their children with education-related activities."

Some products may well help children master basic numeracy,
literacy and some geographic and scientific concepts. Though they're not necessarily making smarter kids. They're giving
them more information.

Analysts stress the need for a "balanced toy box," a variety of goal-directed and
open-ended toys. Interviews with parents and teachers say that, "all things
being equal, at the end of first grade, kids who've had the educational toys and kids that haven't are reading at
about the same level."

elevado. Perderam o encanto e a fantasia". As brincadeiras

a motricidade. Eles já vêm prontos."

Pega-pega, esconde-esconde, corridas e outras, além de exercitar a inteligência e a
sagacidade ainda ajudavam a liberar a energia.

As pessoas precisam

A criança

• Exaustão emocional (esgotamento afetivo);
• Despersonalização da figura do educador (brincadeiras ou observações cínicas) ;
• Falta de realização pessoal no trabalho (perda de motivação).

PACIÊNCIA E CONVERSA: AS ARMAS DO PROFESSOR

existe.
