PSYCHIATRIST

A medical doctor with degree in Psychiatry.

Usually has 8 and half years training (MBBS

5.5 yrs+ MD 3 yrs) . MBBS means bachelor’s

degree and MD means doctorate. Can do all

types of therapies including using medicines

PSYCHOLOGIST

A person with degree in human psychology. Can be

BA, MA, Mphil, PhD in Psychology. Clinical

Psychologists do testing while Counseling

psychologists do counselling. They may be trained

to use therapies to treat mild psychiatric disorders

PSYCHIATRIC SOCIAL WORKER

A person with special training in sociology and social

work. They mainly work in larger groups like family,

community, schools or workplace to solve mental

health problems. They are experts at group

management and rehabilitation

Counselor

Any person with a training in counseling who is able

to discuss a matter to help a person make a

decision. Training in counseling varies from 15 days

to 5 years and can even be by correspondence

course. Counselors are not allowed to treat

psychiatric disorders or counsel persons with severe

distress
