“Everybody knows what stress is and nobody knows what stress is” (Hans Selye, 1976, “The Evolution of the Stress Concept”). As a matter of fact, there are two kinds of stress, Good Stress and Bad Stress. The problem is that we are not sure if the stress we are experiencing is good or bad. But the good news is that Bad Stress can become Good Stress. This course aims to raise mental resilience of corporate employees and support human resources professionals and business leaders to boost employee engagement, talent retention and organisational productivity. It will also help you to understand the importance of maintaining a Healthy Human System. Furthermore, this course hopes to break the Mental Health Stigma Worldwide in terms of the negative connotation.

Led by Dr Adrian Low, an award-winning stress researcher, chartered psychologist, published author, global keynote speaker and university lecturer with extensive experience in conducting well-received workshops for both global and regional organisations, this one-day HR Masterclass will provide you with a strong working knowledge in strengthening the mental resilience and wellbeing of employees.

Dr Low is regarded as a Stress Authority being trained by the best researchers in the field and a pioneer in researching workplace stress in Hong Kong. He is constantly being Interviewed by mainstream media such as Channel News Asia, South China Morning Post and many more media both locally and regionally. *Upon successful completion of this masterclass, participants will receive the certificate of completion by Human Resources.

TIME AGENDA

8.45 am Registration

9.00 am Welcome, Introduction & Delegate Objectives

Delegates will have a chance to get to know each other and discuss any topics or challenges that will be useful for training purposes.

Corporate Resilience & Well-being Awareness: Historical Context and Today’s Needs

Every time you have a thought or emotion, things change in your body. Here, explore the two factors responsible for these changes: the nervous system and hormones. Learn how these systems work, how they're regulated, and—most important—what happens to them during challenging moments. Armed with the necessary background information, explore how specific organ systems suffer when faced with chronic stress. You’ll learn how long-term stress can damage heart muscles, inflame and clog blood vessels, and even lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

10.30 am Break

10.45 am Understanding Psychological Resilience in the corporate world

Why are some workplace triggers more unbearable than others? You’ll be introduced to three powerful psychological factors that work to modulate an employee’s resilience and well-being: having an outlet, taking advantage of social support, and having predictive information about when and how long a stressor will occur.

Psychological Modulators of Resilience

Conclude and influence others to look at ways to modulate the responses to workplace challenges by looking at two subtler variables: your control over the stressors, and your interpretation of whether the stress is getting better or worse. You also see why, despite being enormously powerful, these variables can work only within certain parameters.

12.30 pm Lunch

1.30 pm Understanding Emotional Resilience

Tapping on the emotional basis of Resilience is the key to opening up the highway to performance. If this is practiced correctly, the emotions generated in response to the cognitive processes are far more powerful than sheer will-power. You’ll learn about your brain having three main parts, known as the Triune brain and they try to work together.

Emotional Modulators of Stress

Did you know that your heart sends more signals to the brain, known as afferent connections, than the brain to the heart –(efferent connections)? You will learn to strategically tap into the changing pattern of afferent information generated by the cardiovascular system significantly influences the perception and emotional experience and use it to boost your well-being.
