Silver Spring is Bike FriendlyIt’s no small wonder why thousands of people visit, live, and work in downtown Silver Spring. Getting here is easy... particularly when using Silver Spring’s designated bikeways for cycling or walking. And when they get here, cyclists and walkers find green spaces with rest areas and benches, friendly intersections, streets, and sidewalks, vibrant business and shopping areas, and secure bicycle parking.

• The helmet should rest snug and flat on top of the head, not too far forward or backward.
• Once the helmet straps are snapped together, there should be enough room to fit one finger between chin and strap.
• The straps should be snug but not too tight and should form a “V” under the ears.
Silver Spring Regional Map
Montgomery County Ride On, Metro buses, and the VanGo downtown circulator are all equipped with bike racks! Each rack holds two bikes and supports most wheel and frame sizes- even kids’ bikes. Visit www.montgomerycountymd.gov/rideon for details.
Bikes are permitted on Metrorail at most times during the week (excluding rush hours and select dates) and all day Saturday and Sunday. Visit www.metroopensdoors.com for details.
Biking and walking to work are healthy ways to make your daily commute. That’s why the Silver Spring Transportation Management District encourages the use of transit and other commuting options and provides free consulting services to employers to help them establish commuting benefits for their employees.
Most Metrorail stations have free bike racks and rental lockers.
Add a Little Exercise to your Commute – Try Biking or Walking to Work!
Let the Silver Spring TMD show you or your employees how to beat the traffic, save time, and reduce expenses – all while being kind to the environment. Call (301)770-POOL (7665) or visit www.montgomerycountymd.gov/commute. Or, stop by the Commuter Express Transit Store (located at 8401 Colesville Road, Suite 150, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F) for information, maps and schedules, or to purchase transit passes and tokens. Their services are FREE! Silver Spring TMD is operated by Montgomery County Commuter Services.
