Welcome Back FFA BBQ On August 15-16, 2015 the Strathmore FFA officer team - who consists of Shaylie Logan, Samantha Gonzales, Brittany Saun- ders, Zoe Vasquez, Rosario Gutierrez, Tim Braziel, and Tyson Brem - attended the San Joaquin Regional Boot Camp. This boot camp was hosted by the Regional and State FFA Officers at Camp San Luis Obispo - a real military boot camp! During our time there we participated in team building exercises that involved trusting in one another, leadership skills, and team bonding. Overall it was a really great experience and we can't wait to use the skills we learned to fulfill our duties as chapter officers. -Zoe Vasquez San Joaquin Region Boot Camp September 2015 Newsletter Tulare County Fair Sept. 15th-19th Trick or Treat We Love Pets Charity Sept. 19th Sequoia COLC @ Farmersville Sept. 26th FFA Meeting 6:15pm @ SHS Sept. 28th El Diamante Opening and Closing Ceremonies 5:00pm @ El Diamante High School Sept. 29th Upcoming Events: Strathmore Agriculture Department On Friday, August 21, 2015 the Strathmore Officer Team put on a Welcome Back BBQ for all Strathmore FFA members. Strathmore FFA Officer Retreat

On Wednesday August 19th, the E.A.T. Advisory Board met to discuss the devel-opment of the new school farm. Porterville Unified has recently purchased 13 acres next to the school and an additional 6 acres next to Harmony Magnet Academy for the development of a brand new school farm. The senior pathway class came up with a precursory list and sketches of what should be included in the new school farm, and these ideas were brought to the board to be discussed. In the initial dis-cussions the plans include animal facilities for every species, a riding arena, high-tech greenhouses, hydroponics, a landscaped picnic/lawn area, new agriculture classrooms, labs, and shops, row crops, permanent crops, and much more. The goal of the board is to make this new school farm a high-tech, innovative outdoor learning laboratory where students can gain real-world, hands-on knowledge of agriculture. The next step for this project will be to take these ideas to an architect to draw official plans. Discussion of the new school farm will continue at the next advisory board meeting on September 9th at 3:30 in the SHS Library.

First FFA Meeting

The Strathmore FFA held their first meeting of the year on August 31, 2015 during lunch in Strathmore High’s Gymnasium. The new officer team conducted the meeting very well and the year was off to a great start! After the officers finished conducting our monthly business, the students gathered around to enjoy delicious homemade cookies and brownies.

On July 20th and 21st, the Strathmore FFA Officer Team traveled to Camp Nelson for their annual Officer Re-

treat. The retreat was two days of bonding, teambuilding, and planning out the year. The officer team was able to

accomplish a lot in those two days including: learning about their responsibilities as officers, planning out the

events for the year, setting chapter goals, setting up committees, and much more. The retreat was a lot of fun and

a very successful way to start out the year!

Pathway

Update!

The Freshmen and Sophomore Class Projects are in full swing. This year both projects revolve around the corn and pumpkins

planted at the School Farm. The Juniors and Seniors will continue

with the Project in the Spring.
