ARCHITECTURE COMMITTEE UPDATE By Paul Carshult, Committee Chair The Architecture Committee turned in the walk through list to Sharon at the last board meeting. Many homeowners will receive second reminder letters about their property architecture violations. The most noticeable violations are the placements of DISH antennas. Please refer to the community hand book about the installation of such devices. A THIRD notice of violations of the community standards might be delivered by a contractor hired by the association to correct the problems. In such cases the community is adding a service fee to the contractors invoice. The Architecture Committee is still in need of 1 or 2 volunteers. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at the pool house at 7:30 pm. SNOW SEASON IS COMING—PLEASE CLEAR YOUR WALKS By Albert Parker, SSCA resident member When I was SSCA president, I often forgot to write a “clear your sidewalks” reminder until after the first snow of the season. I hope all of my neighbors, not only on my own court but throughout Strathmeade Square, will sweep or shovel their sidewalks this winter. Even only a little snow, if walked on, can turn to ice that will be hazardous long after the snow has melted from the grass. The county web site says, “citizens and businesses are asked to help keep sidewalks safe. They should, as soon as feasible, clear snow off the sidewalks in front of their property so that all pedestrians, especially school children, those with disabilities, and the elderly, may walk securely.” [cont. pg 3] Strathmeade Square Community Association

[cont. from pg 1] If you’re new to SSCA: Our dues pay for plowing the pavement of our courts (and sanding), but not for removing snow from sidewalks. It’s every member’s responsibility to clear the common sidewalks around their units, by doing it themselves or hiring someone to do it. If you’re from the tropics: The snow doesn’t have to be knee-deep to turn to ice when people walk on it. Just a few centimeters is enough to create a hazard until we’ve had several warm days. Sometimes we get them right away, sometimes we don’t. Locals and members from farther north should already know all of this. If you know that a neighbor can’t clear their sidewalk, you can do everyone a favor by helping out and clearing it as well as your own. Let’s keep Strathmeade Square safe this winter!

CAMELOT ELEMENTARY UPDATE Dear Community, The holiday season gives us time to reflect upon all that we are thankful for. I am thankful for many things and among them are our wonderful students, their families, a supportive community, and a dedicated staff. I want to extend an invitation to you for the following events coming up in December: On December 4th our Camelot PTA will be hosting a Silent Auction. The money raised is used to support our students, teachers and programs. I hope that many of you are able to join us for this annual event. On December 8th at our PTA meeting, one of our school board members, Kaye Kory, will be making a presentation about the Fairfax County Public School budget. The meeting begins at 7:00 PM. On December 15th at 7:00 PM the Band, Orchestra and Chorus will perform in a Winter Concert. Additionally, on December 16th at 7:30 PM, our Chorus has been invited to perform in the Pageant of Peace on the Ellipse in Washington, D.C. Our students will be performing a variety of holiday and winter music. I wish everyone Happy Holidays and I look forward to the hope and promise that begins with a New Year! Sincerely, Craig Gfeller Principal
