What a sweet place the school has been this week. On Wednesday, the students put on their ‘quality control’ hats

to taste and evaluate chocolates with different percentages of cacao in them, then made lovely samples to take

home. Thank you Juana and Cindy for organising this tasty science experience for the kids and slaving over a hot

bain marie. It made a GREAT segue into the next day’s activity. Juana, you are a natural teacher!

On Wednesday evening, the students were very excited to be part of the Euroa Secondary College 2016 Grand

Concert at Strathbogie Hall. The Bogie kids joined in with singing Archie Roach’s “We won’t cry”, and Stephanie’s

students performed on piano and guitar. Also, thanks go to Ethne and Ruth for directing/accompanying the chil-

dren’s rendition of “It’s Raining”. It was a FANTASTIC night of entertainment. Thank you to parents who catered

for this event. The pizza and cakes were scrumptious.

On Thursday, the whole school enjoyed an incursion via Polycom about chocolate. Linking up with an Education

Officer from the Botanic Gardens in Sydney, students learned more about where cacao is grown, how it is farmed,

and finally how chocolate is manufactured.

This week in Mrs Eadie’s room, we learned about how maths is used to gather and organise data. We sur-

veyed the class about their favourite lolly treat and presented this information in a graph. Never has a lesson

been participated in with such enthusiasm. The students have been busy writing farewell notes to leaving

staff—a great, authentic reason to write neatly and spell accurately. Other purposeful writing involved writing

the method for making hot chocolate. Another delicious task. In reading lessons, groups of students read infor-

mation about different treats and reported back to the class, an exercise in reading for meaning and summaris-

ing. Sweet!

Delving into the science of sound, we made string telephones, demonstrating that sound can travel through ma-

terials other than air. Has anyone else played the screaming game underwater in the pool?

To our surprise, not ALL

tastings were as ex-

pected. Here Georgina

tries 90%dark

chocolate.

Miss Ethne Green (B. Music Education) is offering piano lessons to students from 7 yrs old, beginning in Term

1 of 2017. With over 30 years experience in music education, Miss Green brings a wide perspective to

piano tuition. Lessons are $25 per half hour.

This week has been full of fun in the Senior Room. We have been finishing off units of work in Maths, comparing students own data to that of Usain Bolt's through the 100m as well as our Christmas Tradi-tions unit. Our novel, "Wonder" is in the last half now, and students are seeing how different perspec-tives can affect a situation. Changing feelings towards characters in the book are occurring as the dif-ferent perspectives are being read out, challenging the students to see the bigger picture. The students absolutely loved the chocolate tasting on Wednesday. Thanks again to Juana for setting that up, the students had an absolute blast. Also, the Chocolate Webinar was very informative, with the students learning lots about how chocolate is made.
