The last of the warm weather days seem to be upon us, but we are still wary of

dangerous UV rays. As a Sunsmart School, we will continue to have the “No Hat, No

Play” rule and sunscreen slather happening until the end of April. If we are lucky

enough to enjoy a burst of sunshine beyond that, we will sensibly reinstate the

safety procedures for that day/s.

Guided Meditation for the children at Bogie! What is Meditation? Meditation, simply put, is slowing down, becoming focused and clear, starting to notice what is happening in our body, mind and emotions. Meditation allows us to enter the Relaxation Response and our body and mind goes about doing what it naturally does, digesting, repairing and so on. When a child is upset, hyper agitated, anxious, angry etc., they enter the Fight or Flight mode and their body and mind are in an alert and stressed state. This state is necessary for lots of different reasons, namely survival, however it is also important that the child comes back to the Relax-ation Response so that they are present, able to listen and learn, are calm and feel safe. When a child learns to meditate, they not only enter the Relaxation Response more regularly, they also become more mindful and can self-regulate, meaning they become more aware of what they are doing, how they are re-acting, and that they have a choice. When a child meditates it helps to increase focus and concentration – being able to pay attention, it improves self-awareness which creates impulse control, and then meditation and mindfulness leads to empathy and the way we treat our self and those that we interact with. Students at Strathbogie Campus will be involved in two sessions in the coming weeks, led by myself. The Medita-tions I will cover will be Guided Visualisations (a great way to keep the child engaged) with Breathing, Relaxation and Mindfulness. For further information please contact Julie at [email protected] or head over to her site www.childrensmeditation.com.au I have a current Working with Children check and am a qualified Meditation Teacher and member of the Meditation Association of Australia. Warm Regards, Julie Bond-Rowe Meditation Teacher

Congratulations, Jack!

Jack and his family travelled to Parliament House at the end of last

term for the “Weary Dunlop” Award presentation ceremony. He re-

ceived this honour for consistently demonstrating qualities of persis-

tence, resilience, courage and friendship.

We are all VERY proud of you, Jack!

Don’t Forget….

For those children interested in

Yoga with Kylie, consent forms

MUST be returned my Monday.

On Friday afternoon, the whole school community had an amazing musical experience with Lamine. The

workshop promised fun and learning through music, dance and drumming, and delivered in full!

Through story, singing, anecdotes and smiles, Lamine shared insights into the African culture and music

and universal values of friendship, celebration of differences, and respect. If success is measured by the

width of smiles and the level of participation, the visit rated as a resounding success.

Welcome to Trish, Alex and Holly, our three latest

newcomers to our lovely little school. You have all

settled in so quickly and beautifully.

Audrey admires our lovely new paving.

Strathbogie Shire Council is seeking expressions of

interest from members of the community who are

living with a disability or are caring for someone with

a disability to join the Strathbogie Access and Disabil-

ity Advisory Committee (ADAC).

Be part of a Committee that:

Works in partnership with the community and Council

towards acknowledging and valuing people of all

abilities.

Promotes consultation and participation into service

planning and policy development.

Supports and raises community awareness of the

rights of persons with a disability.

If you are interested in participating in the ADAC

please contact Tracey Reid on 5795 0000 or

[email protected].

May is National Family Reading Month! Please

find attached a reading log and information about

how you might win a $100 gift voucher for books. If

you are interested, please help your child fill in

their log and go online to enter the competition.

Guitar Lessons

You may have seen the article in the Euroa Gazette this

week about Gabe Chowanetz, a music teacher from Euroa.

Gabe knows the link between learning an instrument and

improving performance in other areas of learning. He

knows how it can increase confidence and co-ordination.

Gabe has offered to teach a limited number of students at

Strathbogie. Lessons are currently available on Thursdays

at

lunchtimes. They are individual and run for half an hour. If

you are interested, please call Gabe on 0400951906.

Stephanie continues to offer her generous service to

teach piano and guitar. She can be contacted on

0400547820 or by email: [email protected]

Photograph forms have been sent home today with your newsletter. Please

return your order and money ASAP.

Fingers crossed that we will have a lovely autumn day for our photo shoot on

29th April at 9am.

Classroom News

Senior Primary

This week has been extremely busy with much learning about ANZAC day history. A BIG thankyou to Kylie,

Mayra, Joan and Maree for helping with group activities designed to have the Bogie students experience some

of the ‘patriotic duties’ that children carried out in support of the soldiers during WW1. They dug for victory,

revamping an area of the vege patch and planting seedlings (supported by home-made trestles), learned how

to knit the beginnings of socks, baked ANZAC biscuits (delicious!) and sewed hessian sand bags for the trench-

es. The children have read and responded to several picture story books on the subject and completed some

art and literacy activities in preparation for hosting a Strathbogie Community ANZAC service.

Junior Primary

Welcome back for term two! In the junior primary room, we have welcomed two new additions, Alex and Holly to our class. They are fitting in well and making new friends. Our students have been ready and keen to learn in the first week, which is wonderful to see. We have started our new topic for integrated studies which is Re-duce, Re-use, Recycle. After the great work in our first topic for integrated studies, I am sure we will see more creative work from our students this term. In numeracy, our students have begun the topic of shapes. It is real-ly pleasing to see the knowledge students have of shapes and what shapes everyday items are. The students’ holiday recounts were very interesting to read as well. It seemed the children had action-packed holidays! I was absent on Wednesday for my university graduation, but it was immensely satisfying to hear the positive comments about all of the students’ work ethic and behaviour when I returned on Thursday. A great effort shown by all members of our junior room. Best wishes for a great week ahead. Ben Moyle F/1/2 Teacher.

Singing, magic talking drums, laughter!

Sewing sand bags with Mayra and

knitting with Ms Wood. Planting

vegetables with Maree and cook-

ing with Kylie. All this brilliant fun

and learning made possible by

generous parents and friends help-

ing in the school. Hayley was just

as much of a help caring for

Mayra’s children while she helped

in the classroom. A big thank you

to everyone!
