The Adventures of Kevin and Rex in Cell Division

By Paulina De La Fuente & Kalli Hanson

Page 2: Story Book

Today is a very special day for Kevin because he finally gets to go through the cell cycle. But not just

anyone can go through the cell cycle. You can only participate when your type of cell is "ready". Kevin was a skin cell, so he got to divide quicker than a brain cell

or heart cell.

YAY!!

Page 3: Story Book

Dividing was such a big deal to the community, that they were congratulating him all day!

Thank you!

Congrats!

Woohoo!

Finally!

Aw, you’re all grown up

now!

Page 4: Story Book

As Kevin strolled over to the factory, he ran into his old friend Rex.

Hey! Rex! Over here!

It’s me: your old pal!!

Oh. Hi Kevin.

Page 5: Story Book

But little did Kevin know that Rex was jealous of him because Rex had to wait longer to divide, being a

brain cell and all.

I can’t believe you finally get

to divide! You’re

awesome!!

Urg!! I wish I could

divide too!

Page 6: Story Book

While they walked over to the cell-dividing factory together, Rex began to plot how to shut down the

factory so that no other cells would have the chance to divide.

I can’t believe I finally get to divide….bla

bla bla….

……and that way no one else will be

able to divide!!!

Finally, after a long walk, they got to the factory.

Hey buddy! I’m gonna wait

for you out here.

Alrighty!

Page 8: Story Book

So Kevin went inside the factory, and started to divide.

So Kevin went inside the factory, and started to divide.

Page 10: Story Book

In Prophase, the first stage in cell division, the nucleus starts to disappear. Also, the chromatin coils to form

visible chromosomes.

Page 11: Story Book

But as Kevin was dividing in the factory, Rex started to figure out ideas to shut down the factory so that no

other cells could divide.

Page 12: Story Book

Kevin, meanwhile, was in the next stage called Metaphase. Which is where the chromosomes move

to the equator of the spindle.

Page 13: Story Book

Then, Rex decided that he would carry out his great plans to shut down the factory.

•Pull fire alarm to make everyone leave and lock them out.

Page 14: Story Book

But that did not work because there were policemen

in the front of the building who wouldn’t let him in.

Nevermind

Page 15: Story Book

In the meantime, Kevin was inside in the stage: Anaphase, which is when the centromeres split and

the sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite poles of the cell.

Page 16: Story Book

Because Rex’s first plan didn’t work, he decided to carry out Plan B.

•Pull fire alarm to make everyone leave and lock them out.

•Sneak in through the back.

Page 17: Story Book

Rex sneaked in the back way, not knowing that there were 3 guards waiting behind the door.

Kevin had finally gotten to the final stage of the cell cycle: Telophase. Here, the two distinct daughter

cells are formed. The cells seperate as the cell cycle proceeds into the next interphase called cytokinesis.

Hey! You! Come with

us!

Why?

Because! You tried to shut down

the factory TWICE!...you’re

going to jail.

Page 28: Story Book

And just before Rex got taken to jail….

Kevin came to the rescue by stopping the police from taking Rex.

NOOO!!!

After seeing how nice Kevin was, Rex decided to be nice too and they became

best friends.
