STORY BOARDING

Storyboarding is creating the draft layout of each and every screen / frame of the presentation which includes issues like where the text and images should be placed, what should be their dimensions and appearances such as font, color and style, what should be the background music or voice over, etc. The storyboard also decides the temporal relationships between the media, such as from what time a particular image should be shown on the screen, how much earlier a text should appear on the screen before a voice-over speaks about it. Designing of the storyboard is done by keeping in mind the considerations about visual layout and cognitive aspects, i.e. whatever is presented on the screen should be pleasant to look at and comprehensible by the audience. The storyboard is usually presented in a graphical form with each screen presented by a rectangular outline containing the distribution of the media elements like text, image, video, etc. Each screen is labeled sequentially and the elements within it are represented as icons with proper labels

Advantages of Story Boarding It helps catalyze feelings about the feasibility of the program idea. If the

storyboard looks wrong, the program will too. Omissions in the program may be spotted as a result of producing the

storyboard. There is a document which everyone can point to as a common point of

reference, enabling the design team (which includes the client) to say, 'Yes, that is what I meant', or 'No, we've a problem here'.

The storyboard helps focus on the total content of the program, both from the point of view of overall size of the program, and in discussing user interaction times.

Problems may be spotted from the storyboard which may have proven more costly to correct at a later stage.

A detailed storyboard can save time in writing project documentation, e.g., in the production of the product specification document.

Advanced planning can result in templates for the content-writer to work with. This speeds up the content-writing process and makes the production of the storyboard itself so much faster.
