by Rotarians. Vidor ISD was asked to donate a busand after a year, the bus was received. It waspainted green by the prison system in Huntsville, outfitted with colorful cabinets and loaded withdonated books suitable for youths from birth toeighteen years of age. Rotarians then packedlunches and the “Little Green Bus” was off for a fiveyear run. The bus has visited Vidor apartment complexesweekly during the summer and monthly during theschool year. Special and holiday events also find thebus parked with happy youths checking out books.“Thousands of dollars of meals have filled tummiesand thousands of books have fed minds,” says SallyAndrews, Vidor President Elect. You ask, “Why is the bus for sale”? Vidor hasreceived a regular size bus and it is being paintedgreen and outfitted with book cases. In addition tothe regular routes, next summer this bus will startworking with Vidor ISD to deliver meals given by thefederal government to those students who do nothave transportation to the school to eat what isoffered. Of course they will also be able to check outa book. Talk about a “little club that could.” GigGig LangstonDistrict 5910 Governor 2016-2017

Exchange Student Excels

Exchange Student from Hungary Wins CrossCountry Race

District 5910 is hosting11 students this year, and one of thosestudents is an energetic15-year-old fromHungary named FruzsiSzilagyi. She is beinghosted by the RotaryClub of Huntsville and isattending Huntsville HighSchool.

In addition to being an excellent student, Fruzsi hasa passion for physical fitness. Unlike the U.S.,Hungarian schools do not have student athleticorganizations, and so when she is in Hungary shetrains informally on her own doing rigorous exerciseroutines she calls Street Workout training. Apparently it prepared her very well for theHuntsville Hornet Cross Country team, as she camein 1st place this past Friday, September 23rd, in ameet held in Giddings. Fruzsi ran against about 150athletes to win the 2-mile race. Two weeks earlier, she ran against 450 students in another 2-mile raceon a sandy beach in Galveston and came in 2ndplace. So, in her first 5 weeks in Texas, she haswon two medals – quite an accomplishment for ayoung lady who has never competed formally in herhome country! Needless to say, we are all veryproud of her and wish her well on future races!
