Dear Parishioners, Families, and Friends,

It is with great joy that St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church will be embarking on a Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and

Rome, in celebration of our parish’s 150th Anniversary!

This pilgrimage will afford us the opportunity to pray in Nazareth, at the place where the “Word became flesh” (John

1:14). We will also visit the Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the Sea of Galilee, and walk in the footsteps of the

Lord through the Holy City of Jerusalem: the Upper Room, Gethsemane, the Way of the Cross, Calvary, and the site of

the Empty Tomb! And just as Jesus walked with His disciples on the road to Emmaus, He will walk with us on this

parish journey of faith and as He does on the pilgrimage of our lives.

On the 9th day, we will leave the Holy Land and walk in the footsteps of the Apostle, Peter in Rome. There we’ll visit

many sacred sites of our Christian faith, including the Sistine Chapel and the basilicas of Christian Rome. We will

celebrate Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica and pray near the tomb of St. Peter. A highlight will be the opportunity to attend

the weekly General Audience with our Holy Father, Pope Francis!

I hope you will prayerfully consider joining me on this pilgrimage which promises to be an uplifting and memorable

journey!

¡Con gran alegría la Iglesia Católica Romana de San Miguel se embarcará en una Peregrinación a Tierra Santa y Roma,

En el noveno día, saldremos de Tierra Santa y seguiremos los pasos del apóstol Pedro en

Roma. Allí visitaremos muchos lugares sagrados de nuestra fe cristiana, incluyendo la

Capilla Sixtina y las basílicas de la Roma cristiana. Celebraremos la misa en la Basílica

de San Pedro y rezaremos cerca de la tumba de San Pedro. ¡Lo más destacado será la

oportunidad de asistir a la Audiencia General Semanal con nuestro Santo Padre, el Papa

Francisco!

SECOND COLLECTION

Today's Second Collection is taken up for our Summer

Mission Collection. This collection benefits the ministry of

missionaries who will be visiting our Diocese, to serve the

less fortunate throughout the world. We ask all parishioners

to be as generous as possible and thank everyone for their

sacrifices and generous support!

COMMUNITY FORUM The Ad Hoc Committee on Homelessness Issues of

Brooklyn Community Board 7 will be hosting a Community

Forum about the planned Fourth Avenue Homeless Shelters

opening this fall at 15th & 16th Streets. The forum will take

place at the Grand Prospect Hall (263 Prospect Avenue) on

Tuesday, July 23rd beginning at 6:30pm. All are welcome to

attend! (Translation will be available)

ST. MICHAEL’S PARISH

FEAST DAY RAFFLE To be drawn on Sunday, September 29th (during the

Celebration of the Feast of St. Michael’s). We ask all

Parishioner to help make this Raffle a success by selling

tickets - available in the Rectory Office or with Brenda in

the back of the Church.

NEW CATECHISTS & VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Our Religious Education (Catechism) Program is in need of additional Catechists (and assistants) to help teach our Faith to our Children. Any parishioner who may be interested in helping in our Religious Education Program or have any questions should speak to Mrs. Inés Cordero (917-909- 1551). You do not need to be an experienced teacher as training and assistance is offered.

A NIGHT OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP The Missionaries of St. Jude Thaddeus will have a night of praise and worship on Thursday, June 25th from 6:30pm-9:00pm in the church. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. This event will be in Spanish.

HEALING MASS, MONDAY, JULY 29TH A Healing Mass will be celebrated at 7pm on Monday, July 29th. This Mass will be celebrated in Spanish. All are invited!

PILGRIMAGE TO THE

NATIONAL SHRINE OF DIVINE MERCY The Divine Mercy Prayer Group invites you to

participate in the LATIN ENCOUNTER on Saturday,

August 3rd at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in

Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

FEAST DAY PLANNING MEETING A planning meeting in anticipation of our Annual Feast Day

will take place in the Rectory at 7pm on Tuesday, July 23,

2019. All parish groups are asked to send at least one

representative to this important meeting. All parishioners are

welcome!

THANK YOU Brendon!!! After spending the past year

working and serving with us, our

Seminarian Brendon Harfmann

will be moving on to continue his

discernment and preparation for

priesthood. In September,

Brendon will begin a "Pastoral

Year" assignment at Our Lady of

Mount Carmel parish in Astoria, Queens. Brendon's last

day with us will be Sunday, July 28th. We will have an

opportunity to say "Farewell" to him at each of the

Masses that weekend and he will be preaching at the 12

noon English Mass. We hope that Brendon will be

visiting often over the next few years as he continues on

his journey towards priesthood. We thank him for all he

has done and given in his time with us here at St.

Michael's, especially his work in the parish office,

organizing the parish calendar, helping us in our

preparations for our 150th Anniversary celebration and,

especially last summer, in the Renovation of the Pope

Francis Parish Center. Let us keep Brendon in our prayers

as he continues in his discernment and formation!

text messages on behalf of their “pastor”, asking for money. In all cases, the text messages were “signed” with the pastor’s full name. PLEASE

know that St. Michael’s Church, and all Catholic Churches would NEVER ask for donations via text message. At this time, text

Saints in the Summer In these summer months of July and August, many have

the opportunity for some "R & R" (rest & relaxation),

especially students who are "off" from school. Another

word for "R & R" is "re - creation" or "recreation".

Sometimes when we think of recreation, we think of

sports or games or hobbies, which can help us to grow,

not only physically, emotionally, or intellectually, but

spiritually as well. For those who may have some extra

time or free-time during the summer, something that can

help us grow in faith and in our spiritual life is learning

about or "getting to know" the "Lives of the Saints". A

beautiful part of Catholic Faith is the "Communion of the

Saints", our belief and understanding that along with

Mary, our Blessed Mother, the Saints can intercede for us

and help to draw closer to God, the Father, Son and Holy

Spirit.

The Calendar of the Church remembers a particular Saint

or Saints on most days. Some of the Saints and their

Feasts Days are more popular and well known than

others, but in "getting to know" the Saints, we learn that

they were women and men like us: "ordinary" human

beings, who struggled and sometimes failed, but, in

coming to know and drawing closer to Jesus, they

eventually were able to live lives of inspiring holiness.

During July and August, we celebrate some of the well

known (and less well known) saints, such as:

July 23rd - St. Brigid of Sweden

July 24th - St.Sharbel Makhluf

July 25th - St. James, Apostle

July 26th - Ss. Joachim and Anne

(parents of Mary and Jesus' Grandparents

and the patron Saints of Grandparents)

July 29th - St. Martha

July 30th - Blessed Solanus Casey

July 31st - St. Ignatius of Loyola

(founder of the Society of Jesus, the "Jesuits")

August 1st - St. Alphonsus of Liguori

(founder of the "Redemptorists")

For those who use the Internet, you can learn a great deal

about the "Lives of the Saints" by "googling": "Catholic

Saints Calendar" or "Franciscan Media" or

"saintoftheday.org". Let us pray, through the intercession

of the Saints, that we can follow their example and grow

in holiness, day by day.

Santos en el verano En estos meses de verano de julio y agosto, muchos

tienen la oportunidad de un poco de "R & R" (recreación

y relajación), especialmente los estudiantes que están

Any Adult interested in receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Communion and/or Confirmation may register for the “RCIA” (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) by seeing Mrs. Inés Cordero at the Office of Faith Formation. The Office of Faith Formation is located in the Pope Francis Parish Center (345 43rd Street). For more information, please call Mrs. Cordero at 917-909-1551 or 347-682-1344. Classes will begin during the first week of October. You can also call the Rectory (718-768-6065) if you have any questions or would like more information.

SACRAMENTOS PARA ADULTOS Cualquier adulto interesado en recibir los Sacramentos de Bautismo, Comunión y/o Confirmación puede registrarse para "RICA" (Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de Adultos) al ver a la Sra.
