Class: Sensory Smilers Nurture Group Teacher: Mrs Buckley Date: Tuesday, 31st March 2020 Check-in Message: Hello there Sensory Smilers! I hope you and your families are all well. I wonder if you are managing to keep up with the Joe Wicks exercise classes, or if you are taking on Miss McArthur’s STEM challenges. I love them; they are great for using the problem solving part of your brain. I am also enjoying the books that have been recorded by St Francis’ teachers that you will find under Whole School Resources on this website. I feel like I have settled in better to working at home this week. I feel more comfortable now working at my little table instead of in my classroom. Sometimes I still want to get up and walk about or go and see what is on tv but this is not happening as often as last week. I wonder how you are getting on. Check-in Message:Hello there Sensory Smilers!

Sensory Activity

I

can choose an activity that will help me to relax

On the school website under ‘Whole School Resources’ you will find a Mindfulness Grid. It has some lovely activities on it. Choose one that you would like to do now.

Main activity

During this time of social distancing and spending more time at home I can identify the things in my own life that I am able to control.

Turn to the back of your jotter, where you have been doing your nurture work. At the top of the next page write today’s date then add the phrase “I am strong.” Decorate it if you would like to.

Because it is necessary to stay at home we are spending more time with our families at the moment. You may be

very happy with this. However, some of the time you may be unhappy with the situation. You may be frustrated, or stir-crazy (feeling that you need to go outdoors), or bored. You may think that you do not have enough time to yourself. It is important that we all make the best of things and think positive.Today I would like you to identify some parts of your life that you can control; that you are in charge of.

1. Draw a game control and write under it “I am in CONTROL!”. I have attached my drawing but I am sure you can do better 😊.

2. Think of things in your life that YOU can control.I have made a list opposite but it is not exclusive. There are other things you can add.

3. Assign your list to your game control.

4. Memorise your completed control. When you have one of the negative feelings that I wrote in red at the beginning of this activity try to recall the things you are in control of. If necessary you can look at your jotter to help you remember.

*Being positive about these things will make you happier and they will also have an effect of other people who you are close to.

Plenary I can choose a story that I would like to read or listen to. I can stay quiet and relax as I read or listen to a story.

Are you reading a book at the moment or have you listened to anything on audible yet? There is also a selection of stories that have been recorded by St Francis’ teachers on the school website. I’m sure you will enjoy them.
