STEWARDSHIPREPORT

Mission StatementSt. Vincent de Paul Louisville partners with individuals and families in crisis and helps them navigate a path to stabilize their lives and reach their full potential.

VisionIn the Spirit of St. Vincent de Paul, we seek a community where all are supported and have an opportunity to participate and thrive.

Through your dedicated support, St. Vincent de Paul Louisville has continued to make a difference in the lives of those families and individuals living through the unforgiving challenges of generational poverty, homelessness, mental illness and addiction. We have not only been able to provide relief from the immediate symptoms of these challenges but to also work on elevating the underlining causes. In particular, your backing allowed for continued progress in expanding programing to address the unique needs of children coming from homelessness.

Leaning on history and the learned experiences of our 164 years of service, we pursued two major initiatives during 2017. The goal of these initiatives was to assure that St. Vincent de Paul has the skills and resources to address the evolving needs of families and individuals in crisis.

First, we embarked on a comprehensive strategic planning process. This activity included input from a broad range of stakeholders including clients, donors, foundations, volunteers, peer organizations, and members of the surrounding neighborhood among others. The plan produced a revised Mission Statement, validation of current program effectiveness, identification of unmet community need, and established a primary focus on excellence in Case Management as the most critical component in achieving sustainable change in the lives we touch.

Second, St. Vincent de Paul pursued accreditation through the Council on Accreditation. This organization establishes standards for service delivery using a professional peer review process to determine the performance of social service organizations like St. Vincent de Paul Louisville. These standards and the peer review are a direct tie back to our strategic plan objective of excellence in Case Management. This was a comprehensive and intensive year-long examination of our agency. We are extremely proud to announce that effective February 2018, St. Vincent de Paul has earned accreditation through the Council on Accreditation.

Our success is only through our partnership with you, our dedicated donors and volunteers. St. Vincent de Paul, the adults and children we serve are truly appreciative of your compassionate generosity. You are truly making a difference in lives.

Founded as a lay, Catholic organization, St. Vincent de Paul has been providing food, shelter, hope, and compassion to those in need throughout Louisville since 1853. From 22 buildings spread out across an entire city block in the Shelby Park neighborhood, today’s SVDP is a broadly supported social services campus that provides quality programs and services addressing poverty and related issues including hunger, homelessness, addiction recovery, and education for at-risk children.

How We Make A DifferenceHUNGER

Free, hot meals are served daily in St. Vincent de Paul’s Open Hand Kitchen (about 15,000 meals monthly) with food supplied by partner Dare to Care Food Bank and donations from the community. Our volunteer-operated, client-choice Food Pantry provides fresh produce, frozen meats, and canned goods to about 385 households each month.

HOMELESSNESSOur men’s shelter, Ozanam Inn, has 58 beds for

emergency overnighters, 12 beds for men who are working with SVDP case managers, and 20 private beds for homeless U.S. military veterans, through a partnership with the Veterans Administration.

In addition, SVDP provides housing and professional case management to formerly homeless clients— about 300, including families with children, on its downtown campus and an additional 300 clients at scattered sites throughout the city.

ADDICTION RECOVERYLouisville’s only state-licensed facility that allows

patients with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and

substance abuse disorder, St. Jude Women’s Recovery Center is a 50-bed residential treatment program for women working to overcome addiction to drugs or alcohol. It is operated through a partnership with Centerstone.

CHILDREN’S ENRICHMENTOur state-of-the-art Family Success Center provides

quality, year-round programming for at-risk children. Activities include tutoring, recreation, arts and culinary classes, competitive sports teams, field trips and other enrichment opportunities. Free, hot meals in an after-school setting are served in the Center’s Dare to Care Kids Café. In addition, summer camps include a College and Career Readiness track for teens, and a multifaceted program for students in K–8.

THRIFT STORESProviding an excellent selection of merchandise

at affordable prices, St. Vincent de Paul’s four Thrift Stores also supply a revenue stream to support our programs and services for people in need here in Louisville and Southern Indiana. We also accept donated vehicles.

CONFERENCESIn 2017, the St. Vincent de Paul Council of Louisville

had 43 conferences, 1,754 members, or Vincentians.

VOLUNTEERWe welcome volunteers to help out with our after-

school program tutoring children and serving meals in our Dare to Care Kids Café. Servers age 16 and up are needed to serve meals in our Open Hand Kitchen at noon and 5pm daily. Food Pantry volunteers are needed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Seasonal events and special projects also provide wonderful opportunities for volunteer engagement.

DONATEWe are grateful for gifts, large and small, which

enable us to put our mission into action for those facing desperate need. Financial or in-kind gifts support our programs and services for the poor in our community. Visit svdplou.org/donate-now.

Donations of vehicles or gently used merchandise such as furniture, household goods, and clothing bolster our four local thrift stores, where 100% of the profits go back into services helping people in our community. To donate vehicles or schedule free furniture pick-up, call (502) 589-7837.
