Steven Paul"Steve"Jobs(February 24, 1955 October 5, 2011) was an American information technology entrepreneur and inventor.

He was the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer (CEO) ofApple Inc.; CEO and largest shareholder ofPixar Animation Studios

A member of The Walt Disney Company's board of directors following its acquisition of Pixar; and founder, chairman, and CEO ofNeXT Inc.

Jobs is widely recognized as a pioneer of themicrocomputer revolutionof the 1970s, along with Apple co-founderSteve Wozniak

Adopted at birth in San Francisco, and raised in theSan Francisco Bay Areaduring the 1960s.

Jobs briefly attendedReed Collegein 1972 before dropping out,deciding to travel through Indiain 1974 andstudy Buddhism.

Jobs co-founded Apple in 1976 to sell Wozniak'sApple Ipersonal computer

In 1979, after a tour ofXerox PARC, Jobs saw the commercial potential of theXerox Alto, which wasmouse-driven and had agraphical user interface(GUI).

This led to development of the failedApple Lisain 1983, followed by the successfulMacintoshin 1984.

Following a long power struggle, Jobs was forced out of Apple in 1985

After leaving Apple, Jobstook a few of its members with himto found NeXT, acomputer platformdevelopment company specializing in state-of-the-art computers for higher-education and business markets.

In 1997, Apple purchased NeXT, allowing Jobs to become the former's CEO once again. He would return the company, which was on the verge of bankruptcy, back to profitability.

Beginning in 1997 Jobs Started the "Think different" advertising campaign

Jobs was diagnosed with apancreatic neuroendocrine tumorin 2003 and died ofrespiratory arrestrelated to the tumor on October 5, 2011

Apple Computeris formed in the garage of Jobs's Los Altos home on Crist Drive.

On January 17, 2011, a year and a half after Jobs returned to work after the liver transplant

Jobs died at hisPalo Alto, California, home around 3p.m. on October 5, 2011, because of complications from arelapseof his previously treated islet-cell neuroendocrinepancreatic cancer
